Seeing all these good striped bass weigh ins for the classic makes me think I'm wasting my time getting skunked on the northern beaches. I should be fishing LBI! 😂
Caught a few striped bass this weekend in the raritan on 1 oz white bucktails w a white grub. Thrown and reeled quickly. Last weekend the live eels did better.
tried for bass chunking bunker last weekend, every cast i got fish. all of them were spiny dogfish. i kept on getting these huge runs from a mystery fish before my braid snapped at the swivel.
Spiny dogfish are part of the chunking game this time of year and can be frustrating. The runoff - break offs are concerning! I suggest tying up and putting the hook on a tree or fence with 20 yards or more of distance. Is it the knot??? Must get to the bottom of this before wetting that line again as you risk loosing a hog (if not already). If you need help, stop in the shop and maybe we can help identify the issue.
Update: i was breaking off from frayed braid from the previous days tog fishing. been using a different setup for tog and haven't had this issue since i cut 10 feet of my braid.
What happened to fishheads? I used to enjoy going in there to buy my bait and tackle for years, but now every time I go in there the employees are rude and make me wanna find a new spot to buy bait.

There's plenty of skunk to go around here on LBI, but you know where to find them. I bet some of your bayside spots will prove successful too.

This was my experience this weekend, too, with the dogs.
