Lupin was not in love with Lily, they were simply very good friends. As a werewolf he had a very difficult life, people treat him like shit. And like he said Lily was extremely kind. That was very good for him, he wasn't used to people being good to him. And also she was married to his best friend, they are supposed to have a good relationship.

This is one of my favourites in the series!
someone has probably already told you this, if not I promise this isn’t spoilers for the movies! They don’t mention it but I thought it’s a cool bit of plot that this movie missed out on
The marauders map was actually made by James Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew! That’s why the nicknames are moony (Remus-werewolf), wormtail (Peter-rat), padfoot (Sirius-dog) and prongs (James could turn into a stag) that’s why Remus already knew what the map was and didn’t question it, when Harry said to snape about keeping his large nose out of other peoples business it wasn’t him just being sassy he was actually reading what the map was saying, because if anyone tried to read it without saying the right thing the map insults the reader instead!
Remus was bitten really young at 5 years old by a werewolf and in this world being a werewolf is a horrible thing, it’s a disease and for a lot of people it’s worse than death you are really sick and it’s painful, there’s a lot of prejudice against them and if people know they doesn’t treat you like a human. However Remus was the first werewolf to go to hogwarts because of Dumbledore and he gave him a safe place to transform every month, which is the shrieking shack and dumbledore planted the whomping willow tree that hits people on top of the passage way so people won’t go near it and find out about what was happening because they had to keep the fact that Remus was a werewolf a secret because if people found out people would be outraged and want him out.
James, Sirius, Peter and Remus became friends in 1st year and Remus had to lie a lot to them about why he disappeared every month and why he was always injured and very sick, but they managed to figure out the reason a year later but accepted him and decided not to tell anyone but they felt horrible about how he would badly injure himself every month because being locked up as a werewolf caused him to scratch and bite at himself while he transformed so they decided to become animagi to turn into animals to help him through his transformations since werewolves were fine with other animals and keep him company and it took them years to do this since it’s very complicated and advanced and also dangerous, that’s why they can all turn into animals!
That’s also how Sirius managed to escape because no one knew he was an animagi (turn into a dog) because they did this without people knowing, so he turned into a dog and was that skinny from being in prison he managed to slip out and escape undetected, and the reason he escaped was because the photo of Ron and his family on that trip to Egypt in the paper, were Scabbers (Peter) was perched on his shoulder and recognised him immediately so he set off to kill him.
This is mad long sorry but it’s just incase you want to know! And it also explains some things that were left out in the movies

    • @derekringer7143
      @derekringer7143 2 ปีที่แล้ว +40

Very nice explanation. I'll also add that while Lupin used the shrieking shack as a kid to safely transform away from everyone in his Hogwarts days as a student, as an adult he didn't because he could drink the Wolfsbane potion instead, which is a potion that allowed him to transform while holding on to his mental capabilities. It is a very difficult potion to make tho, so Snape had to prepare it. Imagine trusting a guy that hates you to make a complicated potion that could really fuck you up... I guess Snape delivered on that one.

It's not actually mentioned in the books or the movies, that Dumbledore has fixed it, but it is mentioned, that the Dumledore's wand is the only wand in the world that can actually repair a broken wand... It is impossible to do it with any other wand. It will become more clear why later in the series. That, together with the fact that Hagrid can use his wand even when it's broken (when Ron's wand in aCoS, damaged but not completely snapped in half, is completely unusable) adds to the theory, that Dumbledore has in fact repaired Hagrid's wand.

To answer your question at 6:55 - They can't just use the chimney to get to Hogwarts because it's not allowed by the school for security reasons. Also not every chimney is connected to the floo network. They also can't apparate inside Hogwarts because the school has anti-apparition charms, also for security reasons. The Hogwarts Express is a safe, more manageable and discreet method of transporting dozens/hundreds of wizards at a time. It also helps logistically as it ensures all students get to school at the same time. Keep in mind the train was not always around. In the past when trains did not exist, wizards made their own way up to the school through various less discreet, less safe methods. It wasn't until the muggles invented the train that wizards copied the concept.

Remus Lupin is the best Defense Against the Darks Arts Professor. He really made every lessons interesting and fun. If the movies just made a good montage of that, but the way they made the Boggart lesson scene is incredible too. He also pays attention to his students, letting Neville takes the first try. I really love him that's why I was bawling my eyes out during the scene where he resigns, both in book and movie. 1. Yes, sadly Dumbledore's old actor Richard Harris passed away after the second movie and had to be replaced with Michael Gambon.

He brought a seriously comedic dark sense of humor (like the whomping willow plucking the twittering birds) to the story. Plus, the cast had really come into their own as actors by this movie. Add to that the performances by new supporting actors Emma Thompson, David Thewlis and Gary Oldman, plus a lot of clever plot twists (thank the book for that), and you have one of the top Harry Potter movies, for sure. Regarding Hagrids umbrella, it isn't mentioned in the movie but it's implied in the books that when he was expelled for getting framed by Riddle, his wand was snapped (which is basically just shy of execution or exile, as far as wizards are concerned) and he was able to somehow use the pieces of his wand while making the umbrella, which is why he used it to do magic. Which is sort of tragic.

Once Lupin became a werewolf, the other three friends (Pettigrew, Black, and Potter) studied and each became an animagus whose animals (Rat, Dog, Stag) also became their individual Patronus form. They did this so that they could wander with and keep Lupin under control when he was in werewolf form. The Dementors are basically a physical depiction of depression - like Ron said "I felt weird though. Like I'd never be cheerful again." They go to Harry because of his trauma and all his bad memories, even his suppressed ones like his parents death. If they perform the 'kiss' and suck out your soul you're still living - but you're basically nothing more than an empty shell. THat's why no one's been able to escape Azkaban, people don't have the will to even try and escape because they keep reliving all the worst moments of their life - remember how Hagrid was sent there for a short while, he kept reliving the day he was expelled from Hogwarts, the day he had to let Norbert go and the day his dad died, and that it was like being born again when he was allowed to leave. the knowledge that he was innocent wasn't a happy one but it kept Sirius from going insane, then when he saw Peter in rat form on Ron's shoulder when his parents won that money and went to Egypt and got their picture in the paper about it he was able to hold onto it because it also didn't count as a happy thought, and he was able to find the strength to escape as a dog (dementors are blind, they sense humans but not always animals).

Scabbers/Pettigrew was originally Ron's brother Percy's familiar. The Weasleys aren't rich and they're a big family, so each child passes down their handmedowns to poor Ron; Scabbers was just another handmedown from Percy after Percy was gifted an owl for becoming a Prefect in his 5th year at Hogwarts.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
Professor Lupin's first name is Remus; Remus in mythology was the twin brother of Romulus, who gave his name to the city the twins founded: Rome. Romulus and Remus were raised by a she-wolf.
Pettigrew spoke the truth; he was friends with Sirius, Remus, and Harry's father James when they were students at Hogwarts. They were the Marauders: "Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs", were their nicknames.
    Remus Lupin - Moony
    Peter Pettigrew - Wormtail
    Sirius Black - Padfoot
    James Potter - Prongs
Peter, Sirius, and James were animagi; James's animagus form matched his stag patronum, and his nickname 'Prongs' referenced his antlers.
Remus hid his lycanthropy, which otherwise would have been problematic in wizarding society. Snape also knew; Snape's forte was always potions and he supplied Remus with a potion to ward off the transformation (which explains the bottle on the train ride in).
Remus's animagus friends would stay with him when he was in wolf form, to steer him away from others. Werewolves don't attack animals, only humans. I imagine the four of them created the Marauders Map to avoid running into people while Remus was a wolf, which kept people safe and Remus's condition a secret.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
    About Azkaban and the dementors:
Dementors were developed from JK Rowlings personal experience with deep depression. She crafted them as personifications of something that causes hopelessness, isolation, loss of clear thinking, and extreme lethargy. The cold represents the loss of any warm feeling or hope. Their presence cripples the individual in every possible way.
Dementors are presented as feral magical creatures that consume positive thought and energy. They don't have a lot of intelligence but rudimentary arrangements can be with them if the arrangements are very basic and simple.
They are managed by the Ministry of Magic and have a mutually-beneficial Ministry use: functioning as the guards of Azkaban Prison. They are happy to keep to Azkaban to feed on the energies of those sent there and the prisoners are kept there by having their thoughts, hopes, and wills sapped away by the dementors. Azkaban is a building sitting apart from land in the ocean. With dementors draining their energy, they are unable to plan or effect escape or use magic to do so. They are held there not by bars or razor wire, but by the suppression and torture imposed by the dementors.
Occasionally there is a dark wizard/witch that merits something like extinguishment; they will never be released from Azkaban and may pose some possible danger to escape or committed foul enough deeds to merit more than just imprisonment. The Ministry of Magic may direct the dementors to give them 'the dementor's kiss'. In this act, so much energy is sucked out of the individual as to basically remove their soul and consciousness. It doesn't kill the person entirely, but it leaves their body functioning while being dead in every other respect. It's a punishment that is irreversible, leaving the person in a vegetative state until natural causes takes them.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
Dumbledore keeps a LOT of secrets, and McGonagall and Sirius help.
People are supposed to register with the Ministry of Magic when they become werewolves, for public safety reasons. Lupin was attacked and developed the condition while still a child, before he was offered his admittance to Hogwarts. Dumbledore not only kept the secret, but cordoned off the 'Shrieking Shack' for Young Lupin to go to during full moons. He also made a tunnel between the Shack and the Hogwarts building perimeter and planted the Womping Willow over it. The shrieks convinced those not in the know that it was extremely haunted and the Willow kept the curious out of the tunnel.
Lupin's friends during his time as a Hogwarts student was James Potter, Sirius Black, and Peter Pettigrew; they wanted to help their friend during those nights he 'wasn't himself'. So Dumbledore allowed McGonagall to teach them how to become animagi. Again, every animagus is supposed to register with the Ministry of Magic, but Dumbledore covered for them, keeping their secret. Becoming an animagus is a lengthy, complicated process that isn't successful for everyone. You don't get to choose your animal form; it arises from your nature.
Sirius being a dog was what allowed him to escape Azkaban; it took him 12 years to pull enough energy together to change into a dog but once he did, he found the dementors ignored him. This allowed him to escape.
    ________________________________________________________________________________
Hermione is highly logical; she doesn't work well with intuition, and divination is all about intuition.
Plus, she doesn't do well dealing with her blind spots. Learning and information is easy for her, but anything that she can't do easily frustrates her terribly. You saw some of this in the first film with her trying to get her broom to respond. She's just not built for psychic stuff.
And I LOVE how George caught on that Harry and Hermione were going through hormonal/puberty things.
Just wait until the next film, when late-bloomer Ron gets a double-barrel dose of hormones!
    ________________________________________________________________________________
Harry and Hermione were in a self-resolving time loop. They didn't change a timeline, they fulfilled one.
Hermione was well-instructed on the dangers of messing with time. Going back to interrupt Voldemort is too much and was never meant to be. What Harry and Hermione was doing had already happened, and you can see the evidence of it.
And yes; the whole point of being given the timeturner in the first place was to feed her prodigious hunger for knowledge and double her courseload.

They are also all animagus (can turn into animals at will) other than Lupin who is a werewolf. Sirius can turn into a dog, Pettigrew a rat, and James Potter could turn into a stag. They learned this ability in order to keep Lupin company during his werewolf transformations every full moon. Their animal forms is also how they got their nicknames! What really annoyed me about this movie was that many of Hermione’s lines were actually Ron’s in the book. When Hermione said to Sirius, “if you want Harry you’ll have to get past us first!” Ron was the one who actually said that despite having a broken leg. And I really didn’t like how Ron agreed with Snape when he called her “an insufferable know-it-all.” In the book Ron actually flat out yelled at Snape right in class because he was mad at how he treated Hermione. I will never understand why the filmmakers treated Ron so poorly in both this film and other films. It’s not until the last two films that he was finally given his great character 180 like he should have been from the beginning.
