Now this is complete though, don't worry I remembered the other blonde boxer we are supposed to get a guide done for, so Steve guide for Tekken 8 will be live before the weeks up(hopefully lol). Also some VF talk coming at some point this week and who knows what else!
One of the things on my biggest life regrets list is having quit SFV after a month of its release and coming back to it a few months before SF6 release. I hate that I missed the game, because of the art style/graphics and it being SF it's my favorite fighting game of all time......that I really didn't play lol.
It's insane how i was actually checking your posts and community updates every day in anticipation for this guide (even though I have no intention of purchasing ed). I'll be finally getting the game later this month and rewatching all your amazing longform content on sf6, because I wouldn't have the confidence to switch from MK11 without your help. Keep it coming Roofle, I feel like I'm not the only one who would have checked out of the youtube FGC by now, if not for your continued dedication!
Gonna bookmark this right away. I did manage to push Ed into Platinum in a shorter time than expected (less than a week down from Silver 2 up to Platinum 1) considering it took me six months to get Cammy up to that point. Now, I need to optimise and I'm ready to get this as a refresh and see how much I can build or add to my gameplan.
I always feel more confident about a new character after seeing your guides. I always feel a little aimless when I'm first trying things out with any character so having your beginner guides as a foundation *really* helps.
I was always gonna do it, just with all these other game patches and the fact I had to travel for the red bull event really threw a wrench into the normal workflow
Appreciate the guide Roofle! Little heartbroken as a SFV Ed main that he is wildly different and isn't nearly as easy to pick up and play, but I am sure your wisdom will help me get the pain train rolling

32:00 If you input back dash during the last second of the kill rush animation, you can backdash shimmy for a S. HP punish on a throw whiff. The timing is tight but I’ve done it. But yeah, walking back is def have you getting thrown.

a funny thing about his slow invincible reversal is that although it loses to fast buttons, it's pretty valuable against people who autopilot some delayed/shimmy setups that work against faster reversals might not be as useful for top players who generally autopilot a lot less, but for the other 95% of the player base it's a different story lol
It's crazy, but the simple input of the Kill Rush keeps messing me up - since dashes with similar characters are usually qcfs or hcfs and so on, it just being a simple forward actually gives me a bit of muscle memory shock. Likewise, the follow up being forward punch and not just punch is something I keep forgetting and it makes me drop so much.
Kept us waiting, huh? ^^ But it's always worth it, I already feel better with Ed, withouth having entered the game again, thank you very much! These really are the best guides by far. Until now I still have my problems with Ed, I feel like a total beginner again coming from Ken. I want to like him, on paper he's everything I wanted in a character but he plays a bit to different, I can't connect a lot of things that feel like they should, I have problems when pressured, no easy wake up dp here, and the crouching flickers are a bit counterintuitive, especially the medium doing the exact opposite as standing. Also it's weird that the kick buttons feel a lot more important than the punches a lot of the times considering playing a boxer, especially the light jabs have no range. I would prefer him a little bit more traditional, crouching hp beeing the normal anti air but I will give him another chance but ultimatelly I think he's too complex for me and I stick with the tried and true shotos Ken, Ryu and Luke or wait till Dudley makes his SF6 debut. It's weird enough that they make the easiest character in SFV to a very complex character in 6. ^^ He looks great, I love his animations, his backstory and actually also his move but I feel I won't get nearly as far or as reliable with him as with Ken.
as a TRUE Ed fan (50,000+ matches in sfv) i immediately went to modern controls with him. The ONLY complaint is the devs dropped the ball on his specials. Psycho upper should have been neutral special and psycho shot should have been forward and special. just that switch would make him feel WAY more like ed. He's great, but im kinda disappointed they didnt consider that.

One thing ive not seen a concrete thing on yet is his best punish. You safe jump, they whiff.. 5HP 5HK MP~HP 214/623HP? I think PC HP links into HK. Thoughts? I like when im practicing to have a simple good damage punish, then come up with drive rush cash out later
just really a matter of how much meter do you wanna spend. Meterless what you wrote is about it, or you can do into ex flicker juggles or drive rush into more stuff
Thoughts on Modern Ed? I played classic with him for the first couple days but I've actually switched to Modern for the time bein just because I think he only loses a few aerials and crouch light kick and crouch medium kick. Other than those, I'm not sure what he loses. Not sacrificing much of anything for reaction DPs and supers just seems like a no-brainer for me. His Assist+Heavy will also give him stand heavy punch into kill rush chaser perfect every time with no damage decrease, which is interesting. Modern definitely takes some getting used to, but after like 4 days of playing, the controls make more sense.
Great guide, what is someone who likes him in the last game, she's probably a good character except for that jab 😅, he just don't hit for me in this one, and I was a little disappointed that he still didn't have an overhead. In the last game I didn't care because most overheads were BAD being only plus 2 on counter hit and -7 on block, the game was always can you throw them? I can't understand him not having one in the last game cuz his v-trigger ball would have meant that he have a really good one but this game where we have Perry buttons and good overheads I honestly don't see much of the harm I'm not saying he needed Decapre(my old main after Juri) psycho ball level of mix but still...

Is it worth getting 7 now for such a good deal or should I just skip it and buy the 8 season pass? I'll be getting that anyways but would you go back and play Tekken 7 since you have 8 now?
if money is not an issue sure, get 7 and play around. However if it is, then just focus on the 8 season pass, that's gonna be the game thats gonna be around for the next 5-7 years

I hate the portrayal of Ed in this version of the game (and previous versions). His default persona has too many references to neo-nazi paraphenalia with the lightning bolt jewelry and the skull and wings. Neo-shadaloo is too much a parllel to neo-nazi. Why not use his second outfit for the video?
I support you rooflemonger and you keep doing your foghting game content creator thing for those who can handle this character. Another content creator i really like stoped covering sf6 because of ed's depiction, and its hard for me to play the game now myself. Keep on keeping on. I think you’re right about the imagery, but not about the message. Mbison is clearly a reference to “you know who” and Ed’s story is one of trying to defy the sins of your father. His iconography and symbols have been tweaked and are different to MBisons. Its not a skull with wings its an owl, and the lightning bolt is more box like. I think this is Capcoms way of trying to say people can be better than their predecessors, and that over time just like iconography can change for the worse, it can also change for the better. Idk if the risk pays off though, like some messed up people might take this as reaffirmation because they only glanced at the character and didn’t dive deeper in what he believes in(he HATES mbison and his ideals)

to be honest, I do not touch the modern version of any character. I don't have any interest in playing anything other than the proper classic controls

ed is a bit more advanced than some of the other chars. Not as difficult as chun or dhalsim, but more than average

The fuzzy overhead seems kind of useless. If they're in burnout and have that little health and you're landing a blocked jumpin, just chip them.
eds chip is not great, this can absolutely kill in many scenarios where he wouldn't otherwise
