I don't know if I really want to go back to typical large phone size although I do occassionally wish that Sony phones did just a little bit more AI photo processing for those "must capture" moments when I rely on the auto mode to get me where I want to be on the shot (although post process editing in Google Photo with a Google One subscription can improve "images" if needed. As for the screen. I don't understand why Sony went to the other extreme end, 4k resolution is too much? Okay, but why not find a middle ground? What about a *2k+* resolution? For the price, it can not have the lowest resolution out of any flagship. That's a poor excuse, imo. Also i don't appreciate them, yet again, only reserving the Exmor T sensor for the main 24mm camera. They should have put that sensor in all 3 cameras, but at least they should have put the Exmor T into the Telephoto, which desperately needed a higher resolution and more light sensitive sensor looking at the mark V. Overall i still prefer the 1 inch sensor in the Xiaomi 14 ultra that Sony makes (LYT-900), but for some reason Sony refuses to put it into their own phones? Imo there are lots of missed opportunities and lack of improvement in the camera department, although the 170mm is a really impressive achievement, that's about everything they added/improved on a hardware level.
@@highqualitypyro9075who is talking about TH-cam videos? Missing the 1.0 sensor as well as removing Cinema Pro and preventing it from being loaded at all is a bad move. I have taken some beautiful stills and videos with my Xperia Pro. It's still the best sensor in a phone by far. The brilliance of Cinema Pro is how well I could set up the video, especially in low light. The Xperia 1 VI is neither in one camp (mainstream devices) nor the other (specialist and high spec video and stills phone). Let's face it, if you want to play games, the Sony isn't the phone you would go for.
I don’t agree, because for me personally battery life and zoom are pretty important. Also, I like to game, use PS Remote Play (16:9) and the throttling is less aggressive on the 1 VI, so I’d wait for the price to take a bit of a drop and then go for the 1 VI. I do have big hands, though, and you are right. The 1 V is easier to hold.
'NOT coming to the US Market'... Do Sony... NOT want to sell some of the best phones out there? Are they actually right in the head? 🤔 I mean... Things like:- - Announcing a 'Brand new' phone model, but NOT making available to buy for up to 6 months later... - Having some EXCELLENT hardware, but providing DISMAL OS/Security update life... - Said excellent hardware having FAR TOO COMPLICATED multiple camera app systems... - SERIOUSLY HEFTY price tags... And more issues besides... Sony phones COULD rise to become some of the most popular phones 'Out in the field' to rival the likes of Apple and Samsungs' offerings... IF ONLY they corrected the above issues (and a couple of others), and they COULD do it as they have what? 3 phone models (not like Samsung with their extensive A and S range phones)... Let us buy the phones SOON after announcing them, DROP the price to UNDER the 'Equivalent' Samsung, give them AT LEAST 4 years OS and a further 1 year Security update system, then, yeah, I'm pretty sure, they'll sell A LOT MORE of these phones so MORE people can enjoy such things as the great screens and FRONT FIRING PROPER STEREO loud speakers that DO make a difference in viewing content (I remember the days of my Motorola Google Nexus 6! With its 6" Quad HD display and front firing stereo speaker set up... I miss those days.. What do we have now? Mid to tinny left earpiece speaker and full range but firing away from you bottom right speaker... 😒 As Michael Fisher (MrMobile) says - "When phones were fun".. 😏 😎🇬🇧
@@tech_editHuh? You say you got big hands, so that would make it easier, or not harder at least, to hold the VI. And one would even perhaps think that the V would feel to narrow for you to hold even. I mean.. I might be missing something here, or misunderstand you, but it's obviously more of a potential problem to hold a wider phone, with small hands (the oppositeof what you are sporting😉). Hence, why some buyers with small hands probably would prefer to go with the V over the VI, although the difference is very slight, I'd say.
as a freelance photographer the camera aspect of a phone is very important to me and Xperia 1 series does not disappoint... i got the Xperia 1 back in 2018/19 then the 1 mk iii then later the 1 mk V which is my current daily driver... i looked at the mk VI but im going to keep this one until the end of 2025 at least... 4K 120Hz OLED screen is gorgeous which no other brand does or likely will ever do now... as sony dropped the 21:9 aspect ratio 4K displays in favour of a more conventional aspect ratio FHD+ screen but with that compromise it allows a 2+ day battery Life which is a big plus... over a year later im still getting a full day out of my 1 mk V... performance is snappy and quick... 256GB internal storage coupled with a 400GB micro SD card means i have ample storage... little things like the minimalist design and texture of the rear of the phone... 3.5mm headphone jack... AI ZOOM and very fast auto focus and very accurate colour reproduction in photos... unlike the heavily processed and overly vibrant photos taken with Apple or Samsung... Sonys photos reflect what is actually in front of you... also great video... i filmed a boxing coaching course on my Xperia 1 back in 2020... anyways love SONY and hope they keep making these super special phones! thanks for the detailed review Basil 👍🏽👍🏽 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Thanks for the honest review, the comparison shots and the typical everyday footage rather than every shot perfected to the max, which might give unrealistic expectations.
Aperture 3.5 at 170mm that's excellent! And main module also has 48mm lens . Don't expected sony will push such forward. And appreciate for bumpless camera module
I'm glad they did finally add macro capability to this phone. The sensor sizes may be something to look at when comparisons come between some of these other phones with large sensors on every lens
Thank you for answer! but why sony why😥I use Xperia Mark III for movies and I wanted to change it to make it for vlogs. I also had a Iphone 13pro and it couldn't do it either, only Samsung can. It would be nice if Sony added this feature... I will buy it immediately because the Sony has the best colors, similar to my mirrorless cameras 😀
Finally an in-depth review of Sony xperia 1 vi, I'ved been scrolling back and forth from internet, although I'm still stucked choosing between this MK1 VI and S24 ultra as they have now closer price range in my country. Gotta save this vid thanks and more vid to come ❤ love from Ph
The main provlem for me is that I live in the USA and the International versions do not keep up with at&t and verizon updating their 4g & 5g resulting in connectivity issues and speed. I am still hoping for a USA version when Sony's Xperia 5 VI is actually released in the fall. (Why the lag???)
My biggest question: can you disable/reduce the sharpening? The reason I bought the Xperia IV was, that it didn't have that stupid over-sharpening. But now it seems like the VI has that as well... in photos and videos. If it can't be disabled, it's sadly an absolute no go for me (especially video).
Hi Basil, Do you know what Tom, the old TH-cam Channel Host, thinks of the new Sony Xperia 1 VI? What does he say about the changes in display resolution and the new form factor? And is he still using a Sony Xperia or has he switched to another smartphone brand? :) Sorry for the late question, but thank you for uploading the review so early back then. It did the Sony soul, which had been eagerly awaiting the new device, a lot of good.

im actually a year into using the Sony Xperia 1 mk V... very happy... only sore point is battery life but i still get almost a day with heavy use so its not terrible... stand out features are the media playback... that 4K screen is lovely... and the blistering speed apps run... never noticed lag until my battery drops below 5%... overall its just an excellent smartphone...
They do close-up telephoto, as does the Oppo Fins X7 Ultra, but it isn't true telemacro like the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Huawei P60 Pro/Pura 70 Ultra and Xperia 1 VI.
@@tech_edit Xiaomi 14 ultra 3.2x is floating like the 13 pro. It's a true 75mm this time not a 65m crop. The 5x is just close focus tele. Also the Vivo X100 pro has a floating tele lens for macro at 4.3x. Oppo is the only one without true floating tele for macro.
It's funny, but you actually convince me to get the 1 V. Write down to the comfort in hands. I actually prefer the slimmer design of the 21 to 9 ratio as my hands are not large. It allows me to hold, swipe text, all in one hand. And I could care less about super brightness during day. I've never had an issue with brightness on my 1 iii. So now I feel comfortable getting a discounted 1 V. Thanks!
Is sony about to add all photo and camera features from mark V? Like cinetone and photo color presets etc. via update? Khaki green? Is is same as in mark V? I do not know if it's only me but it seems darker in mark VI? :( Finally 3 years of updates! Finally brighter screen with variable refresh rate! Finally vapor chamber! Finally better battery! Is there Sony album app included?
love that its 1080p now, cant even tell the difference with a qhd display. Ill take compatibility and battery life over a higher res I cant even see anyday
Great review Basil unfortunately this is another Sony phone that doesn't stand out or even compete with the flagships, their customer base is shrinking too, such a shame I used to love Sony mobiles
As a 1V owner I think a 1440p display would have been much better. Also I would like to correct you on your claims that the 1V runs at 1080p. On Android 13 it actually displayed full 4K almost all the time, then they switched it over to 1080p once they rolled out Android 14. Anyways, I don't think this is a worthwhile upgrade for me. I would definitely miss having my professional UI layout like on my mark V. I definitely love the inclusion of macro mode, vapor chamber cooling, and a longer tele lens but at the same time I wish they'd done something more with the other cameras on the phone. Especially the front camera. I would love to see a larger sensor size, preferably 1" and variable aperture like Xiaomi. EDIT: Forgot to mention, I definitely hate that they abandoned 21:9, it's what made Sony unique and I don't like the fact that they're going more "mainstream".
i didn't mind them changing the aspect ratio , didn't mind that much when the secondary cameras were not the upgraded exmor sensor , but man did they downgrade the screen to a 1080p, i was expecting the 1440p downgrade to increase battery life and cost reasons but man .. a 1080p screen ? on a flagship phone ?? what a joke . this is such a dealbreaker for me man im so sad . after being tired of s9 , i got a 15 pro max but god i hate this os with a fucking passion so i waited for this for a good stock android phone but yea ig u don't get everything. and for the partially blind who are gonna say oOh U caNt SeE the difference... stfu , yes i can. i can easily make out a 1080p and 1440p video apart. so stop telling everyone u are not eligible to drive on the road.
I can't see the difference. I am being serious. 720p would be too low, but 1080p is perfectly sharp. And I take the better battery life any day over a spec that only looks good on paper, with zero real world usability.
I'm currently considering this phone as replacement for my trusty Pro-i. It's just a bit sad that Sony didn't announce a successor to this phone up to now.
Looks like the PRO series is dead. The original PRO from 2020 is replaced by the PDT-FP1 and the PRO-I is merged with the classic series. Personally, I don't consider this a major update to my PRO-I. I don't play games, so I don't care about peak SoC performance.
@@icekacangfactory the new 1 doesn't have 4K display, you can record 4K 120 FPS video on the new 1 but would need to connect to a 4K TV to watch it On the old 1 you can still record 4K 120 FPS but can watch it on the device without connecting to a 4K TV
love it... very down to earth, finally a camera that can focus on less than 10 cm. Not sure about the price, but i want it... I will be waiting for 5 VI tho. Great review btw
I think I have bought every version of the 1 and rarely kept it longer than a few weeks before getting frustrated with it. Love the new design change however they need to get rid of the side mounted sensor and go under the screen. Side mounted is a not natural to use and sometimes awkward when in phone mount etc. The phone still has a 'iffy' ambient light sensor causing the always on display to be overly bright or dim (depending on its mood), screen also has very poor (if any) oleophobic coating on the screen. I would also like to see them separate the volume buttons into separate up and down as I can't tell you the number of times I press it thinking I'm locking the phone. The mk 6 is another step in the right direction and performance and software (mostly) is great. Not sure how long I will keep it though with the issues still there
Major downsides: 1. No new 1inch sensor instead a lower spec one, same as last year. 2. Worse PWM frequency. Those are the real concerns I see that no one is talking about. The display change has is pros and cons. But on a everyday use I would say its a positive change because of batery life.
How good is the internal compass on this phone? Say you are out on the street and bring up Google maps, does it show the direction you are facing accurately with a blue arrow, or does it tend to show a wide angled searchlight indicating that it cannot be very precise? Thanks
You said that you would get into the softness of the zoom lens. But I watched the whole video and didn’t find that part. Is it better than the mark V or is it still muddy. This is the most important question for me.
Much better, but relies on good light more than the AI competition. You're right, I didn't explicitly, but you can see the zoom comparison with the Oppo Find X7 and all the zoom comparison shots in the garden versus all the key competition. Let me know if you can't see them and I'll add time codes :)
Hmmm, difficult juggling the considerations between what's been gained and what's been lost on the VI. I'm still using the original beautiful purple colour Xperia 1. I was really expecting Exmor T sensors on all 3 cameras this year. As much as I like gaining 48mm on the main camera with the VI, I feel that I'm gonna opt to finally upgrade to a V, as I love the 4k cinemawide display. I'm seeing a red version of the VI floating around on twitter (not in the official Sony VI product video), which would tempt me to get a VI if true.
Hello, I watched 43 Xperia 1 VI videos. Why has no one continuously zoomed from 0 mm to 170 mm in video mode? I'm very curious about the lens transitions, are they smooth or choppy?
As always you one of the firsts I go to the details. Thank you for the review! Is software update (camera app, UI) would be available for the older versions, your thoughts?
Really detailed review, thanks! 👍 Did you encounter any annoying softwares issues? I have read in forums about apps crashing, fingerprint scanner not working..
i think pro video app is getting some sort of revamp for the august release ? i guess the display isnt the main issue just because lack of video pro right out of the box and new aspect ratio is throwing fan off abit. but video pro is still coming and people will get used to new aspect ratio anyway and display isn't day and night different either. in the mean time we still can download apk file of video pro for sony phone, its android so there's that option also they're saving all highest spec for the sony pro i successor
So did they redesign the quick settings or did you do something through ADB commands? Did you maybe notice some FPS drops when using the camera or watching videos? That was a huge problem on 1V. Every time I watched a video the FPS dropped massively... Great review!!
@@LindonSlaght this happens only with sony phones. I know that youtube videos are playing at lower fps. But why don't other phones drop the refresh rate too by this logic?
Genuine question... I have the 1 MK4 .... This worth the upgrade? And my biggest question is the LED status light finally back? Please say it is! Ridiculous getting rid of that for the mk5
The major thing I really dislike about the Xperia phones is the lack of any quickcharge. Currently been using an LG Velvet since 2020 and considering to upgrade, but the lack of even basic QC is disappointing. I use a powerbank quite a lot when I'm on hikes, outdoors, etc and on the Velvet it only takes like 30 mins to get to 100%.
100% agree. I remember when Sony first introduced Battery Care, they cited that as a reason for not including quick charge, but that was years ago. It's even less competitive now. On the plus, at least with the 1 VI a 50% charge (22 mins) gets me just under a day of moderate use. The battery really is good.
Battery will degrade faster over time. If you value your money and don't change phones often. Having 2 days battery life on the Sony and be consistent over years it's something way more valuable than charging faster. Now sure about now, but when I had the Sony Xperia Z3, one thing that I valued over other phones is that they didn't make the phone obsolete via System Updates or not to the point brands like Samsung and Apple did back then. If that continues to be a thing, then this phone phone could last years...
@@LazerB. Yeah, that's a good point. Albeit, there's articles and studies about QC functionality not being shown to reduce battery life and health long term. If they are to be believed, then it would be a no brainer to have QC on every device able to take it. But indeed, the verdict is far from final. Food for thought.
The extra width might make it a little easier to type on but it means they have got rid of the one unique feature, the narrow format which made it far easier to hold than any other phone. We don't all have large hands and I can't be the only one who thinks that phones have now become far too big.
Same, with my crappy eyesight I wont notice the difference anyway, plus I'm really looking forward to finally getting good tele-macro capability. It's one of the features I wanted most from a smartphone camera.
2nd Day with the phone and I can attest that it is a hot item! Loving it so far. Just watch out for the wallpaper app it has glitches out of the box (won't start for me) But in general a gorgeous phone, nothing ostentatious or garish. Perfect fit for professionals and designers like myself...until the next great breakthrough in foldable screens (durability) comes along. I would highly recommend getting one!
@@MalikaSharmaNZYes my previous Sony many years ago suffered from poor battery life. This one is fine though I would encourage them to improve more on the software side of things.
Does it play Prime Video in HDR or at least with a bright screen? I found my S24 Ultra plays Prime with only half the brightness of my old Note 9 with current firmware and full tilt settings... That's ridiculous. So what's the deal with this phone?

They should at least gave it a 900usd price if they're gonna cut short on the resolution
Thanks!
Thank you! So kind, very much appreciated. Have a great day, Basil
Watching these on my mark 2 i hope get these V or VI. I love sony phone
Get the xperia 1 V...pretty comfortable to hold.
I mean... Things like:-
- Announcing a 'Brand new' phone model, but NOT making available to buy for up to 6 months later...
😎🇬🇧
@@tech_editHuh? You say you got big hands, so that would make it easier, or not harder at least, to hold the VI. And one would even perhaps think that the V would feel to narrow for you to hold even. I mean.. I might be missing something here, or misunderstand you, but it's obviously more of a potential problem to hold a wider phone, with small hands (the oppositeof what you are sporting😉). Hence, why some buyers with small hands probably would prefer to go with the V over the VI, although the difference is very slight, I'd say.
What do you think about audio quality through 3.5mm jack compared to previous model?
Great Xperia 1 VI review Basil! :) Looking forward to your channel for more Xperia 1 VI content!
as a freelance photographer the camera aspect of a phone is very important to me and Xperia 1 series does not disappoint... i got the Xperia 1 back in 2018/19 then the 1 mk iii then later the 1 mk V which is my current daily driver... i looked at the mk VI but im going to keep this one until the end of 2025 at least... Sonys photos reflect what is actually in front of you... also great video... i filmed a boxing coaching course on my Xperia 1 back in 2020... anyways love SONY and hope they keep making these super special phones!
thanks for the detailed review Basil 👍🏽👍🏽

@@NLMusique thanks!!!
Thanks for the honest review, the comparison shots and the typical everyday footage rather than every shot perfected to the max, which might give unrealistic expectations.
My favourite form factor (form, size, weight and material) is still the XZ1 Compact. I wish they made a modern version ✨✨
Yes me too.
Me too. Still my main phone.

blue xz1 compact 😍😍
🤮🤮
Aperture 3.5 at 170mm that's excellent! And main module also has 48mm lens . Don't expected sony will push such forward.
And appreciate for bumpless camera module
I'm a 1 iii owner and my new Xperia will be a 1 V because the 21:9 screen is the must have for movies and the most series.
All your movies and series will still be the same width. It's not that bad lol
As if the Xperia 21:9 is an actual cinematic resolution. It still had to be over/under scannned...
I'm not bothered about the downgrade to a 1080p display, but this looks more like a £800 phone than one that fetches £1300.
Exactly, if I can get the same screen on a Xiaomi phone, why would I pay 5-6x more for a slightly better camera?
@@pixels_per_inch Doubt you're getting the uninterrupted screen, headphone jack and microsd card slot on a xiaomi
Sony made a fantastic move by making these changes. It is by far the best Sony smartphone ever, with unique features. ❤️
I'm not going to mince words. The 1080p screen is a deal breaker for me. As far as aspect ratio, it's a bummer it no longer keeps 21:9.
I prefer this new aspect ratio, 21:9 was too narrow
21:9 is only useful for watching movies and even when the screen was 4k it only displayed 1080p most of the time
So in youtubevideos you only can watch up to 1080p?
I'm glad they did finally add macro capability to this phone. The sensor sizes may be something to look at when comparisons come between some of these other phones with large sensors on every lens
Thank's i will upgrade from Xperia1iii that's still very good ☺️👋
Enjoy it, and thanks for the comment! Basil
Şu an Pixel 2XL kullanıyorum ama Sharp Aqua 8pro ve bu Sony 1mach 6 arasında bir seçim yapmam lazım 🤔🤔🤔
Is it possible to turn the camera to the front one while recording in this model? 🤔
No it isn't.
@@Trevvyow123 thanks so much, I really appreciate the kind words. Have a wonderful day :)
I agree, at some point its really evident that the pics/vids are made on a phone.
GSMArena has it's active use score at 17:27h!! Amazing!!! That is very interesting to me.
Hi Basil,
Do you know what Tom, the old TH-cam Channel Host, thinks of the new Sony Xperia 1 VI? What does he say about the changes in display resolution and the new form factor? And is he still using a Sony Xperia or has he switched to another smartphone brand? :)
Sorry for the late question, but thank you for uploading the review so early back then. It did the Sony soul, which had been eagerly awaiting the new device, a lot of good.
Awesome review lad!
At least make it 1440p like Samsung. 1080p is a midrange tier screen.
Ffs another one of these. Dude you can't see it. I'm 17, my eyes are perfect, I'd know. Clearly you've been got by the marketing.
@@LindonSlaghtI can see it….

im actually a year into using the Sony Xperia 1 mk V... very happy... only sore point is battery life but i still get almost a day with heavy use so its not terrible... stand out features are the media playback... that 4K screen is lovely... and the blistering speed apps run... never noticed lag until my battery drops below 5%... overall its just an excellent smartphone...
15:50 I thought the Vivo x100 pro and Xiaomi 14 ultra could do telemacro too? Or is their minimum focusing distance not close enough?
They do close-up telephoto, as does the Oppo Fins X7 Ultra, but it isn't true telemacro like the Xiaomi 13 Pro, Huawei P60 Pro/Pura 70 Ultra and Xperia 1 VI.
@@tech_edit
Xiaomi 14 ultra 3.2x is floating like the 13 pro.
Thanks!
20:24 that new action centre layout is great.
Thank You. Had 1V and switched to S 24 ultra for a year
Will be getting the V1 as Photograpy and music are my interests.
Is sony about to add all photo and camera features from mark V? Like cinetone and photo color presets etc. via update?
Khaki green? Is is same as in mark V?
I do not know if it's only me but it seems darker in mark VI? :(
Finally 3 years of updates!
Finally brighter screen with variable refresh rate!
Finally vapor chamber!
Finally better battery!
Is there Sony album app included?
Did they improve the selfie camera for video calls?
Thank you very much for the video
love that its 1080p now, cant even tell the difference with a qhd display. Ill take compatibility and battery life over a higher res I cant even see anyday
Great review Basil unfortunately this is another Sony phone that doesn't stand out or even compete with the flagships, their customer base is shrinking too, such a shame I used to love Sony mobiles
What are you talking about?? Expansion slot FTW
This is the most comprehensive and frank review for me.
They still could have gone for 1440p
Hi Basil, thanks for the video and test review...
is it safe to assume there is no change either in the update policy?
3yrs software 4yrs OS, and thanks for the kind words :)
@@tech_edit thank you Again Basil, i have missed that information at the 20 mn mark in your video, have a great day :-)
Great video! Keep up the great work and greetings from Romania!🙂📸
EDIT: Forgot to mention, I definitely hate that they abandoned 21:9, it's what made Sony unique and I don't like the fact that they're going more "mainstream".
the missing pro layout is the worst of them all in my eyes
i didn't mind them changing the aspect ratio , didn't mind that much when the secondary cameras were not the upgraded exmor sensor , but man did they downgrade the screen to a 1080p, i was expecting the 1440p downgrade to increase battery life and cost reasons but man .. a 1080p screen ? on a flagship phone ?? what a joke . this is such a dealbreaker for me man im so sad . after being tired of s9 , i got a 15 pro max but god i hate this os with a fucking passion so i waited for this for a good stock android phone but yea ig u don't get everything.
and for the partially blind who are gonna say oOh U caNt SeE the difference... stfu , yes i can. i can easily make out a 1080p and 1440p video apart. so stop telling everyone u are not eligible to drive on the road.
I need at least 1440p for my job, so this phone is definitely out the window for me.
Exactly, if they had left the display alone it would have been perfect. But no, they had to do a Samsung and downgrade the screen to 1080p.
I can't see the difference. I am being serious. 720p would be too low, but 1080p is perfectly sharp. And I take the better battery life any day over a spec that only looks good on paper, with zero real world usability.
no Video Pro until autumn is just baffling. I like the new camera app and I hope I can sideload it to my 1V
Alpha camera app was better and really different/unique for Sony.
Great video mate, thanks a lot 👍🏼
I've decided to buy the 1 V instead, the 4K screen is a must for me
The 1 V is awesome. SD8G2 has aged like a fine wine - enjoy it :) Basil

love it... very down to earth, finally a camera that can focus on less than 10 cm.
Not sure how long I will keep it though with the issues still there
So we don't know if we will get Alpha style camera app? That looked like an RnD debugging app...
Major downsides:
Thanks
Will SnapDragon Gen 3 can upgrade major android updates longer years for Xperia 1VI ?
You said that you would get into the softness of the zoom lens. But I watched the whole video and didn’t find that part. Is it better than the mark V or is it still muddy. This is the most important question for me.
Much better, but relies on good light more than the AI competition. You're right, I didn't explicitly, but you can see the zoom comparison with the Oppo Find X7 and all the zoom comparison shots in the garden versus all the key competition. Let me know if you can't see them and I'll add time codes :)
It's basically exactly the same.
20:15 finnaly!!
but for the price I still don't think it's enough
Have you done a how to de-google the 1 V & 1VI?
side sense was always with swiping? i have the 5ii and i use the swip up and down in sidesense a lot
ow no side sense to side slide it has changed indeed.
15:25 - you can see the stepping in ideal lighting. Hope that helps! Basil
@@tech_edit You did it, but it's not very obvious since distance reproduction wasn't done, but the lens movement is softer than before.
Very nice screen full screen without compromising the screen
I want to use a steel ring/case for qi2 charging. I wash wondering is it too close to the telescopic lens, and might damage it.
Is there any way to move the time/clock from the left to the right? I know Samsung let's you with the Good Lock app.
As always you one of the firsts I go to the details. Thank you for the review! Is software update (camera app, UI) would be available for the older versions, your thoughts?
What about the notification LED light: is it still there, or have they removed it?
Watching on my Xperia 5. I love that 21:9 aspect ratio. Please bring back 21:9 aspect ratio in Xperia 5 iv

No, unfortunately Sony has confirmed that the Xperia 1 VI won't be launching in the US.
@@tech_edit From Sony's history, do you think that their International Version will work well in the USA?
Really detailed review, thanks! 👍
Did you encounter any annoying softwares issues? I have read in forums about apps crashing, fingerprint scanner not working..
i think pro video app is getting some sort of revamp for the august release ?
i guess the display isnt the main issue just because lack of video pro right out of the box and new aspect ratio is throwing fan off abit.
but video pro is still coming and people will get used to new aspect ratio anyway and display isn't day and night different either.
in the mean time we still can download apk file of video pro for sony phone, its android so there's that option
also they're saving all highest spec for the sony pro i successor
So did they redesign the quick settings or did you do something through ADB commands? Did you maybe notice some FPS drops when using the camera or watching videos? That was a huge problem on 1V. Every time I watched a video the FPS dropped massively... Great review!!
Usually it's because youtube videos are usually 24-30fps. The phone will also drop the refresh rate appropiately so as to not waste power.
@@LindonSlaght this happens only with sony phones. I know that youtube videos are playing at lower fps. But why don't other phones drop the refresh rate too by this logic?
Why nobody comment on the new Quick Panel?😂

Will there be a dedicated videography and cinema pro app in the future 🤔 🤔🤔
Kinda disappointed with the display panel and the camera app ngl
1440p would've been the perfect sweet spot between 1080p and 4k. But atleast you get 2 day battery life with 1080p!
@@netnomad47it's 1440
The camera app made very sad, i hope the V series won't get this update. PLEASE don't take away my professional setting menus!
Genuine question... I have the 1 MK4 .... This worth the upgrade? And my biggest question is the LED status light finally back? Please say it is! Ridiculous getting rid of that for the mk5
I love my front facing speakers on my. Sony 1iii. Definitely need this to come to other phones again.
Why Sony went down to 1080 is a huge bummer. That's the one thing I really like in a phone.
Do you have any idea about the pwm rating of it's screen?
Will the U.S. model also support e-SIM? I would like that very much!
How is the front camera quality?
The extra width might make it a little easier to type on but it means they have got rid of the one unique feature, the narrow format which made it far easier to hold than any other phone. We don't all have large hands and I can't be the only one who thinks that phones have now become far too big.
What is the best micro sd card for Xperia V1 if price no object ?
does it have a voice command shutter in camera finally?

All things apart, most of the users derive pleasure from the screen while viewing content. They don't compromise on screen res.
Do you have any information about when the device will be on sale?
Im ok w/ the lower res display, love almost all the new upgrades.
Hows the battery performance? I have Sony Alpha Pro-I and battery is the worst i have ever seen on a Sony phone ever.
I can't tell the difference between 1080p and 1.5k+ I prefer the longer battery life.
