  • I drive to Fort Desoto Park Florida when it is too crowded at St Pete Beach. I take a tour of the Fort Desoto Park Pier and see all the people fishing. There are huge swarms of fish off the Fort Desoto pier but they are small. Still, many people of all ages are having a good day at this fishing pier. Fort Desoto Park Pier may be the best fishing pier in St Petersburg Florida.
The Fort Desoto Fishing Pier is about 12 miles from St Pete Beach and is a great alternative when you can not get parking in the tiny parking lot. There are multiple beaches, including a dog beach, fishing pier and historical fort at Fort Desoto Beach. All of this is inside Fort De Soto State Park and it costs only $5 to get in to the park and there are hundreds of parking spots even on the most crowded days. If you are in the St Petersburg Florida area and you want to go to a beach with plenty of space and parking and even a park like setting with picnic gazebos and barbeque areas, Fort De Soto State Park is hidden beach that most tourists are not aware of. If you are looking for a relaxing alternative to Clearwater Beach Florida and St Petersburg beaches, you should consider Fort Desoto Beach.

What makes this pier special is you have fresh water available through out the pier and some very nice fish cleaning tables. Also if you want to see some dolphins they are almost always around. In addition there is no alcohol allowed which keeps it family-friendly.

I know the dolphins are around, but every time I go there I don't see any.

No state parks allow alcohol but really its not hard to hide if you want to drink and the dolphins are a real pain in the butt for fishing they eat your bait and your catch and they care nothing about closed seasons or undersize fish.

Thats so nice! I love piers! When I first started researching moving to Florida I asked if there were piers besides clearwater and nobody could think of any. I have seen at least a dozen already! Great video!

The beaches around Tampa are just simply amazing. I wish that city had more life. I went to the boardwalk in Tampa twice now and there is barely anything going on there. You'd think that they put up some nice bars and restaurants there.

Tampa downtown by the boardwalk is a like most business districts in that, after working hours or on the weekend they are not that busy.

Don't worry they are quickly working on developing EVERY square inch of Tampa Bay and Florida because the tens of thousands of other bars and restaurants and condo's and apartments, etc are not yet enough.

What do you do that allows you to just travel all the time? You don’t have to answer but it’s amazing!

I don't travel all the time. I live in Florida. The videos in other countries were just extended vacations.

Of course not, it used to be but no it closes at 8pm. Less freedom every bleeping day.
Piece by piece and nobody cares. It used to be open 24/7 and FREE

That's the problem with public piers you have tourist asking if you are going to eat your bait🤦‍♂

Not 1 bridge landing net so even if anybody caught a big fish they have no way to land it, amateur hour.
