These videos are very helpful. Thank you. Do you have a video of lot 202? Does it have water and electricity? I read a few reviews on Trip Advisor that there are rat problems. Have you found that to be true?
Thanks! Unfortunately I don’t have 202. I’m sure it would have water and electric though. I have never experienced rat problems but raccoons are something else entirely!
175 is a nice large pull through site in Area 3. No pets are allowed in Area 3 and there is no water view from this site, but if you have a large rig and a pull through site is a mist for you, I don't think you'll be disappointed.
Thanks for the informative video. We are planning to be there in mid January so I will need to get a site in July. Any suggestions on booking? I think the sites will book fast that time of year. Also do you think truck campers are allowed in the pop up van tent area? Thanks again
243 4432 thanks for watching. My best advice is to get up early 6 months to the day before you want to camp to get the best choice of spots. As for truck campers, I’m sure they’d be allowed but there are clearance issues with low branches over the road. I believe that is why they don’t have RVs and campers in that area. If you have a tall truck camper you may not fit!
Your videos of Fort Desoto have been so helpful to me. Question- we love the Gulf. Is the walk to the swimmable part of the Gulf manageable from the campground? Thanks!
Great video !!! Loved all the info. I do have a questions for they allow first come first serve spots? How far in advanced do you suggest booking ? Thanks again for the video
Thanks for watching! In the cooler months, it is very hard to get a walk up spot. I always recommend booking 6 months in advance for your best chance. You can sometimes luck into a cancellation but that is rare.
Or if you don’t have videos do you have any insight on which would be better. My husband likes 198 because he thinks we will get more open water views but I’m worried about it being windy on the point and 192 might be less windy. TIA!
sorry it took me a while to review my footage. I don’t have video of either site as both were occupied when I was there, but if I had to choose, 198 has a fantastic view. But you are right that if it is windy, 192 would be better. Its a gamble so if wind is a big issue for you I’d play it safe and pick 192. if the view is more important go 198 for sure.
Hi, thanks for your video! I have a question, are you able to swim on the campground? For example, on sites 227-233 that are "waterfront" but don't seem to have mangroves? Is it like a "beachy" front, where the kids may be able to get a little wet, etc?
Fort De Soto is pretty adamant about not swimming in the campground. There are signs everywhere. That said, people do wade out into the water for time to time.
@@suzzylouloudougherty5237 It never hurts to try. People cancel reservations all the time. I'd call them first thing in the morning though as cancellations get taken up quick. Also be prepared to say yes if the right spot is available. For instance, if you have pets, you can only stay in Area 2. If you have an RV or camper, you can only stay in Area 2 or 3.
@@KempOutside . You're so sweet thank you no we only have a tent haven't been camping in a long long time my friend moved back to Florida from Massachusetts and she used to be my Camping Buddy when we were like 25 years old she wants to get away and so do I but we want to go like soon because you know how it gets in the summer I'll try any help first thing in the morning thank you so much if not you know any other campgrounds in Florida we both live not far from there I'm about an hour and a half from the West Coast I'd even go camping somewhere else if I can't find a spot at Fort Desoto
It is going to be hard to find a good spot this time of year but as I said, you may luck into a cancellation so I'd keep looking. Florida has some fantastic state parks. If you don't have to be on the water, Myakka River State Park, Oscar Scherer State Park, Hillsborough River State Park, Colt Creek State Park, Lake Kissimmee State Park and Highlands Hammock State Park are all relatively close to Fort DeSoto in the SW Florida area. There are also camping opportunities on county property but each county does things a bit different. You'd have to check the websites of the counties you are interested in and see their policies. Then there is also Ocala National Forest. I haven't camped there but have heard it is nice. Good luck and have fun!
I came here to see this - they say Brian Laundrie was last seen on this camp ground. I can imagine how many ppl will watch this video!! Ty for sharing
Me too damn
Me too lol ! I hope they catch him so bad !!
thanks for the great information! We have a new camper that is 32ft and have reserved site 4. Do you think the site will work?
Are they allowed car camping? I have a tent but I’m afraid of raining during the night. Thanks
I am not sure if they allow you to sleep in a vehicle without a tent or other structure set up. You may want to call the park office to ask.
This was really informative thank you
Glad it was helpful!
DeSoto campsites are huge. I was there just last week camping for 3 nights. Nice episode. 👍
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the campsite photos!

Hi, any insight to site 175? Thank you!

Cheers i def wanna go. Whats the price and do you have to pay ahead?
I don't know the price offhand but it is available on the Fort DeSoto website. You definitely have to reserve a site in advance.
Website looks like it's a little under $40 per night. Ugh
Do you have campground 137? I can't find a review of that site. Are all sites 30A with water?
Unfortunately I do not have footage of 137. it was occupied the entire time we were there. All sites have 30 and 50 amp hookups and water.
@@KempOutside awesome, thanks for the quick reply. What are your thoughts of 137? Decent spot? Headed there this Sunday from VA
I think 137 is a fantastic spot. Its right on the water and those sites are pretty big. Let me know what you think of it and enjoy your trip!
Do you have any videos or reviews of the primitive youth camping site near the north east entrance? We're going this weekend and curious the layout.
Unfortunately I don't. Next time I am there I will try to get some footage and post it in a video. Thanks for watching and enjoy the trip.
Do the sights have any hook ups I may have missed it, but we had just happened to be exploring and found the sights.
The sites have water and electric but no sewer hookups.
Good stuff to know
Thanks!
Thank you for the video! We’re planning a trip here for the end of this year beginning of next year!
Elizabeth King you’re welcome and thanks for watching! Enjoy your trip!
Hi Kevin, so nice to see a familiar face. Thank for info, we just bought a RV and looking forward to using it. Say hi to Barbara and your mom.
Gina Brar hi! Thanks for watching! Enjoy the RV and I’ll be sure to tell Barb and my mom you said hello!
Thanks for the info...in a few weeks planing a trip to Ft DeSoto......
Have a great time!

Awesome video! Great info on where the site is.

It is pretty far. I would prefer to walk or bike from the campground. Thanks for watching!
No. Too hot and too far to walk or bike. You must drive.
Hey how is the weather for camping end of July/ Beginning of August?? Lots of rain??
There can be lots of rain but typically only in the afternoon. It is most definitely hot that time of year but the sea breeze can help.
@@KempOutside thank you! 😊 We are most excited for our upcoming trip. Hope not too much rain those 4 days lol

no swimming in camp areas just the beach

You think he left the country this way?
Do you think you still have to make reservations six months in advance at this particular time? I want to go in March
You may get lucky and find a cancellation, but in the cooler months especially, it is very hard to get a spot at Fort DeSoto on late notice.
So do you think that tomorrow I can call them and ask them if they have any availability like within a month or so

Can I plug in any standard fan?
Yes, every site will have a standard outlet.
Love this park . Good fishing .and lots of racoons .so lock up you food .
You got that right!

always do goggle Earth. Grow up going to FD ..sense 5 years Old ...
Google Earth is helpful but the trees can block a lot of what you want to see.
