Had a 2016 1.6 Allgrip for five years, totally reliable, 50 mpg, best car I ever had and I have at least forty, Mercedes VW Audi Ford Subaru Volvo BMC LR BMW, none of them as reliable or cheap to run. Have another Volvo xc60 now, just couldn’t find anything else I liked, enjoying it, but then it cost twice what the Vitara would, when I need something smaller, I will go back to Suzuki.

We own the base engine Vitara and we love our car , our previous car was a Swift which after 5 years felt as tight and good as day 1. Although the Vitara 1.6 non turbo does feel a little sluggish in some situations and we do need adjust with the paddles sometimes, it’s still fun to drive. One thing Suzuki engines have is that they are always willing to give at high rpms and do not feel forced but rather sporty. Great mileage too. I wish it was a little higher up the ground though.

You can change its springs (and shock absorbers) - ask your mechanic/garage or enroll in your national Suzuki Forum and ask the members there. Of course, this will cost you some money, afaik < 500-700 EUR.

in the UK we've owned a similar Suzuki s-cross for the last three years: 1.4 automatic allgrip.
Well where to I begin? Easily 40mpg, proper torque converter auto, massive sunroof, folding mirrors, leather and radar cruise control.
Utterly reliable, and the 1.4 engine is incredible. Usually revving at 1,500 and only in boost mode when needed.
Okay not the same as the posh BMW 325d I owned for the last eight years, but for the money, especially as a used car - a no brained.
Oh and the allgrip is no toy, we have crazy snow and ice at times - no problem ...

I live in the USA and I use to own the last one that they made before pulling out of the USA. I use to own a V6 with rear wheel drive. This SUV runs so good and handled pretty well. I wish Suzuki still came out with cars in the USA. I got into an accident with it on the front side panel and on the passenger side. Just that it took a month to get it fixed which was too long. After that I sadly traded it for another SUV. The parts and accessories are just so hard to get a hold of. I seen parts being sold in the UK and they would not sell it to me because I was in the USA...bs. It nice having it while it lasted

Easy to follow summary of the Vitara. Being a Turbo the fuel type needs to be mentioned and more clarity on the 'auto' transmission. It's actually and Auto-Clutch (DCT). Servicing is more frequent, so be aware. The 'don't likes' are minor I feel but the pluses, and there's many more make the vehicle worth the price. The Garmin Nat-Sav is adequate but after warranty the upgrades start at 'criminal costs' for nothing useful. A phone with Google maps achieves much the same. Economy can be astounding if driven well. I've had an LY Turbo since late 2017 and remain really happy with it. The options I chose, mud flaps, dashboard trim and nudge bar weren't cheap, they lift the look of the car car a little but that's personal of course. Even though the list prices have crept upwards, it's still a good buy.

Sorry that you didn't give the luggage area in litres for comparison reasons.
I lined up the Kona turbo auto AWD for comparison and in my opinion it is wzy better.
    Reasons are all objective.
    25 more kW of power
    40 more nM of torque
You achieved 8.2 l in Suzi which is very close to the actual urban estimate of 7.9 but it uses expensive PULP which you fogot to mention.
The Kona uses 8l urban cycle but ULP which means real fuel bill will be 10 to 15% less than Suzuki.
They are both nearly identical in physical size so I would pick Kona.
I know its a report and not a comparison but I cringed when you omitted the boot size and the fuel type.
Neither of these is an SUV by definition and as a journalist you would know they are crossover vehicles because of their unibody construction. As you no doubt know that by definition an SUV is built on a separate ladder frame chassis. Your site never comments on my comments but maybe another reader will challenge me. Kind wishes.

It is surprisingly good for light off roading. The AllGripp Select AWD is one of the best available right now(for a fraction of the price of the other systems) with an option for 50:50 split in lock mode and its not reactive like most SUVS but proactive meaning it doesn't need a wheel to slip, for the AWD system to turn on.
And from what I know so far, this Vitara is made for more of an urban/light off road camping car, and they are planing a new Grand Vitara which will be more off road oriented
