Octopus payment system has since expanded to be able to use not only on ALL Hong Kong public transportations, but also supermarkets, convenience stores, vending machines and etc. So, why they announced it in New York like it was a new and exciting technology the world has never seen... 🤔👌?

The Hong Kong octopus card was since 1997... If your point is swiping the NY subway card which always failed is the same as octopus card tap and go, then okay... Just FYI, back in 1997 smart phone and apps was almost non-existent to regular people, not like today. So, again, I don't see what it is you want to point out. Pro Local Tip: Hop over the guardrails or wait for someone to use the door to the side to sneak in. Nobody ever gonna say anything unless you did it directly in front of a police officer.
Second tip, if your using the bus.. just enter through the back. They don't say anything to you. This only works on the local bus though. Express will often have stops where police wait outside to check if you paid.
