I was there on this concert in Lucerne 2012. I have been to countless live concerts for past 20years or so ( all sorts from sonatas, symphonies to opera) and by far this concerts is on my list for top 3 experience-of- life time live performances. Don't be fooled by the recorded version as it is nowhere near the live experience. (It only shows overall structure of the performance, just like a rough drawing that shows the contour of the object.) I swear with all my heart that i was momentarily in heaven while listening to Pollini's Beethoven on that day. And I was not able to attend any other piano concerts for next 3 yrs afterwards as I found the impact of other highly praised pianists were not as satisfactory as Pollini.
Come on! More colorful beautiful piano sound than Pollini=Wilhelm Kempff Emil Gilels Radu Lupu Artur Rubinstein Vladimir Ashkenazy! More genius than Pollini=Sviatoslav Richter Solomon Cutner Grigory Sokolov! More powerful louder than Pollini=Mikhail Pletnev( Prokofiev piano concerto no by Pletnev!) The Second Loudest was Lazar Berman! The 3rd Loudest was Erwin Nyiregyhazi!!
it s a live performance..........the recorded pathetique version by Pollini is perfect, welll this is apersonal opion. POllini follows Beethoven s fast tempo markings unlike other pianists. i love this interpretation but i know some people favour other approaches...................but to accuse Pollini of being too fast is unfair, Beethoven s own directions were for fast tempi on this sonata........if i read this well, if i do, Polini pushes this sonata forwrd to Beethoven s sturm und Drung sonatas, which would later be composed.
Y ASI COMO DE MANERA ACCIDENTAL ESCUCHE ESTA PARTE DE LA PATETICA, ME AGRADO MAS EL SEGUNDO Y TERCER MOVIMIENTO DE ESTE OPUS. EXCELENTE GRAN MAESTRO BEETHOVEN, AUN NO SE SI ESTE TRABAJO LO COMPUSO YA SORDO, PERO SI FUE ASI...MI MAS TOTAL RESPETO AL MAESTRO DE BONN. Y PENSAR QUE TODA LA MUSICA ESTABA EN SU MENTE. GRAN LOGRO DEL ESPIRITU HUMANO, OJALA Y PODAMOS VER AL MAESTRO MUSICO EN LA OTRA VIDA Y ALLI DIALOGAR SOBRE COMPOSICIONES PERO COMO HONRA A SU HACEDOR...DEJEMOS VOLAR LA IMAGINACION !!
It was not recorded by Pollini. If you see the description artists are Barenboim and Roos. I love how you all weren't fooled and demonstrated that Pollini's skills are not psychologically influenced.
Hi in minute 11.18 Why you play with your hand the last note of the last triplet (Eb), together with notes C then D Isn’t this a poly rhythm sixteenth triplets against 32th notes Should not be played like : Eb - C - Eb - D Please can you explain it
I've just checked this particular place in 11:18 - he plays it correctly: Eb-C-Eb-D - You can hear it if You click the settings button and play it in 0,5
I love Pollini, but I have just listened to day to a few other great pianists and this one is the less impressive of the group. Kempff and Kissin so far the best I have heard.
Wilhelm Kempff is The King Beethoven Pathetique sonata!. Evgeny Kissin is The second-rated player! Kissin so over-rated pianist!. Kissin The ice cold piano sound Ever!. Emil Gilels The King Waldstein sonata! Vladimir Ashkenazy Appasionata with The most colorful volcanic piano sound Ever!.
Pollini is known for playing scores *exactly* as they were marked up by the composer. Most pianists put their own interpretive spin on phrasing; that's what we are used to hearing, so many think Pollini plays too fast. Yes, he may be playing to fast or whatever compared to what we are USED to hearing, but think again about Pollini's "project" - i.e. he is compulsive about getting it "right" according to what he thinks the composer intended on the very scores written by said composers. I don't think it's better or worse than anything else, but I have come to adore Pollini's interpretations, as well as his impeccable piano gifts. Easily one of the top 5-10 pianists of our time.
This doesn't sound like Pollini to me. If it is, it's Pollini on a very bad day. Technically it's sloppy, and no feeling. If it is Pollni, it's one of his worst recordings.
I have taken music history classes before, but I'd love to do it again. I haven's heard mr. Pollini play in a long time, so I can't respond to your critique
Sloppy… missing the scale… losing control… awful rendition... I think this was the worst day of Pollini’s mental/health condition yet he had to perform. 😂
Each time that in Utube we are listening to the performance of a very well known pianist, there is a guy telling that it is very bad, suggesting probably that he would have done it better. You are one of these persons. So now that it is done, we can come back to Polllini 😅

I can understand what you are saying. Maurizio Pollini's Beethoven is Heavenly, literally.

In this performance Mr. Pollini surpassed the earthly concept of perfection and reached heaven.
Rip pollini

I'm a huge fan of Pollini's interpretations of Beethoven!!
Most of it is way to fast
i was in dream state for a moment while listening to this, beautiful
My favorite Beethoven's sonata 💕
Pollini interpreta Beethoven per farne un dono all'umanità come grande espressione dello spirito collettivo. Vero amore per tutti noi.
0:00 - I. Grave - Allegro di molto e con brio;
8:12 - II. Adagio cantabile;
12:38 - III. Rondo: Allegro.
Beethoven PLUS Pollini Wooooow
the 3rd one, my all time favorite.
Divina, e' la mia preferita
Awesome!

Superb
There is no too fast or too slow.
There MUST be some room some freedom of understanding and interpretation
fantastic

Pollini usually gets it right. This is perhaps a Beethoven piece with strong contrast between euphoria and its opposite if this makes any sense.
Eccezionale!!

MAGISTRAL VERSION
Intense
Bellissima
So aristocratic and confident!
E pensare che da ragazza la suonavo . Troppi ricordi !
Esecuzione magistrale !
splendido
Magic !!
second page 1:20
12:39 rondo

7:31 and 7:38 too early!?
I'm a super fan of Pollini but I have a hard time this time to get where is he coming from.
What do you mean? He is italian of you mean where he is from
Grandi
Impeccable technique and indeed aristocratic bearing.
Hi in minute 11.18
Why you play with your hand the last note of the last triplet (Eb), together with notes C then D
Isn’t this a poly rhythm sixteenth triplets against 32th notes
Should not be played like :
Eb - C - Eb - D
Please can you explain it

I'm not sure.I think he is not Pollini.
Esse cara é pika
Some parts are rushed...
yeah. A lot of them
a második tétel elején kicsit mindég meghalok...
He's uncharacteristically uneven with his meter. I wonder what was going on...
Hmmm. Is this really Pollini?
Why is Polloni always in a rush. Does he not like playing every song he plays?
J Widg spot on :) only saw your comment after watching this, but that's the exact impression i got - "Can I go home already!"
J Widg His Waldstein and Appassionata are magical but yeah here he plays the slow parts too fast and the fast parts too slow. Oh well.

jsphotos Satan
Another double-digit IQ poster
Forse aveva bevuto molti alcolici....
Are we sure it's him? So many mistakes...
Play a wrong note is irrelevant... Play without passion is inexcusable
In description says that it was recorded by Barenboim and Roos
@@bartoldo5898 Those are indications for other versions to listen to.

Too flat and hard on the keys.
takea music history class
I have taken music history classes before, but I'd love to do it again. I haven's heard mr. Pollini play in a long time, so I can't respond to your critique
Always the same sound....:-(
bad/always rubato-----
I know. I mean its classical, right???
Is this really Pollini? He must've been having a bad day; it's really terribly unmusical.
Quite disappointing.
What did you expect?
Curatica C Why?
Sloppy… missing the scale… losing control… awful rendition... I think this was the worst day of Pollini’s mental/health condition yet he had to perform. 😂

Or maybe you were joking ? Another possibility...🤔
