You guys keep forgetting a 45acp doesn't need to expand to be effective...if it does its just icing on the cake...the 45acp legend was born with a 230 grain ball round at or around 830 fps...it's effective...anything better is just that! 45acp doesn't need +p or trick bullets

@@kevinrichardson8859 Just more data. Irrelevant unless you're actually engineering a bullet. In this exercise, we're just observing what happens when it hits the goo. How fast it is going is unimportant as long as it does it's job when it get there. Great to talk with you, really enjoyed your comments.
Would like to know what pength of barell it was shot out of. 230 gr 45s have always been right on the razors edge of expansion velocity. They really need the full length barell and even then sometimes they dont have enough velocity. My go to in 45 230 gr are Winchester ranger t +p and federal hst. Lucky gunner has the best gel testing of 50 different 45 loads on their website. 5 shots each and slow motion with velocity and expansion data. Thats where i go whenever i consider a new round for carry. The hst and ranger t both expand to 1" even ahot out of 3.5" barells.
As stated in the video, we used a Mil-Spec 1911 with 5 inch barrel. Thanks for watching
Gold Dots are great ammo across all calibers except 230 grain 45aarp. Hard to find a 230 that will reliably expand for sure
This one expanded great, which is a significant factor in why it did not penetrate enough. Large frontal area equals high drag coefficient, which in turn slows the thing down prematurely. Thanks for watching.
@@locacarnivore900I feel like that’s adequate penetration for 2 legged targets, especially since nobody wears clothes like that where I’m at. living in a densely populated area I want to be sure that my slug stays in the target.
@@eancola6111 On average this load is a good one. Just don't expect it to perform miracles, like all too many people expect .45 ACP to do.
@@locacarnivore900 Handguns are just a means of getting to a long gun, no pistol rounds have the terminal ballistics to be completely effective.
