I can carry any sized pistol in the summer, winter , or in the fall because I carry inside the waistband. Long pants or shorts my pants have belt loops to wear a belt. Inside the waist band means barrel length isn’t a factor. I only carry full size or compact pistols, subcompacts on waist.

Carried a 1911 from 70-76. Love the weapon and you can't beat it. They rattle and are heavy but it's always reliable and a hard hitter..

Personally, I like the 1911. I like it so much that I carry one every day. Mine is in 9mm, I have 2 with 3.25" barrels. I do have striker fire pistols also but prefer the 1911. TRAINING is the key. You need to be able to release the thumb safety as you draw. Not after you draw.

What I wish I knew beforehand is not to buy one with a full length guide rod. Unless you have a bushing wrench you're going to rip your thumb to pieces trying to compress the plunger in order to turn the barrel bushing.

I cannot argue with this gentleman’s recommendations. Proper categories for certain, and since everyone else is sharing their firearms, I might as well add my firearms, antiquarian as they may be….. #1 Krag Jorgensen M1898 rifle in 30-40 Krag. #2 20 gauge bird gun. #3 Colt M1892 revolver in 38 Long (I like a 6” barrel revolver over a .22 cal rifle, but that’s not a recommendation. Pistol craft takes A LOT of effort to become proficient; it’s just my preference). So why all the antique guns in obsolete calibers? I’m old, I trust them because they are robust and I am proficient in their use, and I “turned the clock back” a long time ago. Happy hunting friends. 🇺🇸

There is no cookie cutter answer for this. You just have to try different loads and see which ones feed. 1911s can be finicky with different bullet profiles and overall cartridge length. Also, I don't run +P ammo in alloy framed 1911s--too much stress on them. They have durability problems enough with standard ammo as it is. Thanks for watching. Check out the review I did on the Ronin LW "Commander."

The 1911 is NOT left hand shooter friendly!! NOTHING on the 1911 is ambidextrious. Oh sure, there are some aftermarket bandaids such as add-on right side safety levers, but in order to eject a spent magazine you still have to switch hands, reload, and then switch back, or reach under the weapon with your non-shooting hand and fumble around for the magazine release when you should be reaching for a fresh magazine. In a defensive situation, this is just too much time wasted, Speaking of wasted time, no matter how you carry your 1911, when you draw it, you have to do SOMETHING to the weapon to make it function. If you carry it with an empty chamber (like everyone on TV apparently does) you need to rack a round into the chamber), OR fully cock the hammer if carried in half-cock status, OR flick the thumb safety off if carried in "cocked and locked" configuration. Apparently we lefties are a recent innovation which didn't exist in the John Browning era.

In the late 70s, in San Fran, I bought a Gold Cup, but wasn't allowed to have it for 2 weeks (their stupid wait laws). I was leaving for Houston to live, leaving "it" all behind; I only was there for a year, ample time to 'know' better. I have always been a reloader, so I needed to pick up the brass. But, that gun NEVER put the brass in the same place! It scattered it everywhere! And, the only 'accuracy' I ever enjoyed, was when "I" held the pistol exactly the same for every shot, same tightness, same sight picture, same space between shots and the like. It was never meant to be a tack-driver, for sure. I spent a lot of $$ on the reloading dies and the rest for that gun- (I always bought the best stuff for the job). Needless to say, it didn't last long in my collection. I had many better guns that actually WERE match shooters, right out of the box. But it was big and shiny and had a big bore, and a big recoil--all stuff that does not matter to me these days-- "I" like a more reasonable recoil, and shot follow-up, not scattered brass, less expensive to shoot, high capacity mags, target sights, with lugs for attachments like a red dot or laser or light, etc. But if I wanted it for some other good reason, Though it's heavy, it would be ok--if "I" wasn't gonna conceal it. It was fun but now I'm over it; don't remember if I lost any $$ on the deal..............
