Hello Pete, thank you for another really excellent video. I’m pleased you’ve managed to get all of your cars sorted out. i’m wishing Richard all the best in restoring RM1009.
Well worth waiting for! So glad that RM1009 has not been robbed of its plate by some knob- bonce Porsche driver. She looks to have been kept in very original condition, not a candidate for a bar conversion, surely? Happy to see some work on the 240 Jaguar, and hoping to get to East Grinstead on 21st April. Keep it up!
Always wondered what Roger Wright has hidden away, I live just up the road from Onagr Station so regularly see different members of the beautifully kept fleet. Assume he ran 1009 with Blue Triangle? His railway, the Epping Ongar Railway is well worth a visit especially on Diesel Gala weekend!
Ooooooppppps! On yanking your cable and tearing your box! 'Yuk-yuk!' I suppose a walkaround & checklist 'fighter pilot' styley would cure missed pre-bussing take off? 👐 Ah, well, we all make mistakes. He says, losing count the amount of time I've forgotten to attach stuff to my roof rack!
Pete you was 1000 yards away from me , that bus came from Northfleet industrial estate oppersite Discount Builders . Good to see my area on camera, nice bus as well.
My apologies, I’m playing catch up on your uploads. So much in this one, was brilliant to see everything coming together. Keep up the good work, awesome upload as always 👍💪
Absolutely superb! Pete and his brain didn’t quite think this time oops! I’m sure you’re not the first one that’s done things like that. Both vehicles are credit to you!
Such beautiful bus the RM 10009, can you imagine to buy all the London routemasters and send to Londoner buses for route T15 and T11 and Pete great video ❤
I do like your videos and it suddenly crossed my mind ,I wonder how many times I might have used your Routemaster when it was in service .As a student and then post uni I lived on the 38 route using it to get from the Balls Pond Road /Sadlers Wells to get to Holborn /Piccadilly .Clearly the bus might well have been on many routes but having used the likes of 24/38/19 etc I bet I have sat in it a good few times !Worse for the wear as well a good few times!
If I had quid for every time I've done something like that! You could put an inline pair of 32a connectors in your hookup cable with the latching lid removed from the female so that it would disconnect if you forget again.
Nice to see it with an AEC AV 590 engine. Simply the best fitted to RMs in my opinion. RM 1009 has a very interesting history. It was the third Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine and not only it worked the 207 group and the 255 out of Hanwell garage, this bus also operated on Route 97 Brentford- Ruislip Station and probably the Summer Sunday extension to Ruislip Lido. The bus was then transferred to Cricklewood garage in March 1963 as I researched for there were more Leyland powered RMs allocated to that garage. Well, nice to see the bus upload onto You Tube.
Correction: When I stated RM 1009 was the third Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine I forgot about RML3 and CRL4. What should have been stated was that RM 1009 is the third production Park Royal bodied Routemaster fitted with a Leyland engine and from what I researched Leyland engined RMs were hitting the streets of London from December 1962 onwards from Tottenham, Mortlake, Crickclewood , Stockwell, and by 1963 the 36 group.
Out of all your collection the old landy is a favourite of mine. When the inevitable EMP attack eventually comes, the landy and the old stuff with no ECU will be the only things on the road!
Great bus looks wonderful I learnt to drive on RM 39 VLT39 really enjoyed the routemaster, I ended up driving out of Cricklewood Garage where when the prototype was first used on route 2,but long before my time there,I did however get to drive in service M1,2and 3 on the 16 route. Great memories wish I could be back for the rally it's a long way from Australia, keep up the good work best wishes Ron.
Great episode Pete .. glad you got the Landie & your Jag back on the road & the the roof for your MGB looks good too! Well that was a silly thing to do .. gives a whole new perspective on an electric bus .. lol 😊. As for Richard’s purchase .. RM1009 looks lovely … will try to get down to East Grinsted in April. Perhaps you both will get to do one of the Amersham & District Motorbus Society’s Running Days (maybe in 2025 if you are both too busy this year!). Wow that workshop had so many wonderful buses .. I spotted the Dual Purpose Leyland National in one clip .. but also several of these London Country RF308 (was owned by Peter Legg at one time) & Atlantean AN264 have both been in service at several A&D running days in the past.
Ah, the famous Land Rover third-party parts lottery at 10:55. Might be great! Might be not even slightly the correct part and it's clear nobody has ever tried to fit one! Maybe less of a lottery and more like sticking your hand in a pack of Liquorice Allsorts; there's a 1 in 2 chance you'll end up with something you don't want. Oh well, it worked out in the end and that's a lovely Land Rover. :D Great vid!
Another great video Pete good to see the bustubetrain from the 90's adverts we had it at a Bus open day at Fullwell depot back in the day London Bus sales was located at the far end of the old tram shed that was Fullwell garage
How weird, at the end of the video i was going to ask you if you were going to attend the EG vintage bus day 😂 We went a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it so Ill be there with the wife and 2 boys. We'll definitely let you chauffeur us around for a ride on the new bus 👌
Oops about the shore supply lead. And double oops with the continuity error, after you put the "23" stickers over the destination blinds, then at 5:16 we see 2355 roll out of the barn without them, and the "38" destination visible. May I suggest you take a leaf from the railways and have some kind of "NOT TO BE MOVED" board on the steering wheel that you don't remove until all checks (including disconnection of shore supply (or "barn supply")) have been completed?

Your not the only one to forget to remove something before driving off, Whilest waiting to fill up with Diesel, I saw a Woman drive off from a Petrol Station towing a "Pump" which She failed to remove after filling up & I've never gotten out of a Truck Cab so fast before.

Oh no I missed 4 months of these videos. That'll keep me busy. I wish all cars had a handy built in work bench like the Landy. Spoiler alert - the warm weather still hasn't arrived.
At around 5.30, "and this time it's unplugged" it is route 38 but seconds before and after that it's on route 23, with stickers on the glass instead of blinds! Something fishy is going om here! 😅
Rm 1009 looks brilliant Pete you should feature it in a video of its own as I would certainly be watching that and are you going to Routemaster 70th this year.
Maybe make a "Remove before flight" sign to attach to your steering wheel, this will ensure you unplug the mains electric next time before driving off....
Nice to see 1009 again as I remember her, hope all the traces of my conductor's blood has gone from the platform, he got set upon late at night, thought he was still upstairs when it all kicked off as he rang me off from the previous stop by tapping on the blind box. He was not the type to normally intervene in a fight, just give me 3 bells followed by another 3.
Just an idea! Could you not fit an LED light inside the cockpit of the bus so I'd the mains are connected the light is illuminated that way you'd always know if that's an issue (would be a lot of cable for a small light but would save the issue again)
Hi Pete, another awesome video, will Richard make it into a bus bar selling drinks 🍷 please?. Was hopeful that he might’ve bought a Green Line RMC/RCL instead, could you buy one for preservation and meet it in original condition please?. Kind regards from Jack in London 👌.
@@PeteAndHisBus Not many routemasters around with that lovely flake grey relief band on the red ones ( I think only Routermasters had that , unldess you count the grey on the OMO single deckers - but that was much wider). Tourists seem to think every London bus was Red - Indeed the Green ones had different fares (and different ticket machines ) The nicest shade of Red was on Alder Valley Leyland Nationals (it was supposed to be NBC Poppy red but I think aldershot mixed in left over Thames Valley red and made it a touch darker)

@@PeteAndHisBus Aw Wow, that's a monster of a tank at 130 litres 😂, that must cost you nearly 200 quid a time to fill your bus with diesel at Current prices. What kind of range does a full tank give you? I know it'll depend on the engine that's in your bus, I'm guessing the Cummins engine probably gives you a bit better MPG than the retro AEC one does, but I might be wrong. I love the sound of both engines but there's nothing quite like the sound of a 6 cylinder classic AEC, they just sound beautiful don't they 👍 Have you ever driven a bus with a manual gearbox, if so, did you enjoy it pal?
RM1009 looks beautiful!!! That's been loved and looked after.

A shame about the modern day London buses that looked a disgrace
I collect old watches from the 1930’s onwards to the 1980’s, I keep them like that bus, in perfect, sometimes in original mint condition 👌.

What kind of range does a full tank give you? I know it'll depend on the engine that's in your bus, I'm guessing the Cummins engine probably gives you a bit better MPG than the retro AEC one does, but I might be wrong.
I love the sound of both engines but there's nothing quite like the sound of a 6 cylinder classic AEC, they just sound beautiful don't they 👍
Have you ever driven a bus with a manual gearbox, if so, did you enjoy it pal?
If I'm correct in assuming you wrote/played the music, from 1 guitar slinger to another, you're pretty darn good....
I didn't do the music. I just chose it
I thought all the Thames Trader tunnel buses were scrapped - that has to go to Ensign really and get rebuilt it is more their area
