- The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence is an annual international campaign by UN Women, drawing the attention of Women's rights activists across the world starting on 25 November, The international day for The Elimination of Violence Against Women runs till 10 December, Human Rights Day. In the year 2022, the theme of this campaign was " Ending Violence Against Women and Girls in the context of Climate Change". Following the theme of this said International campaign, on 25, November 2022, the Department of Gender Studies and Women Development Center with the collaboration of the Department of Political Science IUB arranged an inauguration and opening session at the main gate of the Faculty of Arts Building. Dean faculty of social sciences respected Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti inaugurated it along with the Chairman Department of Political Science and the Coordinator Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution, IUB respected Prof. Dr. Syed Mussawar Hussain Bukhari. Both of them graced this occasion along with the senior faculty members of the Department of Gender studies, Political science, and Public Administration. All the students of these departments participated in this session with great zeal and zest with the projection of Slogans against Gender-Based Violence written on Charts in their hands. Mr. Ansar Abbas, Assistant Professor Department of Gender Studies started this event by highlighting the importance and theme of these 16 days of activism against gender-based violence and shared the plan of activities including an Awareness walk (On 29 November ), Panel Discussion (1st December ) and Poster/Slogan competition (9 December). He said that in these 16 days faculty members of the Department of gender studies will deliver awareness lectures to the students of different departments in the university to make them gender-sensitized. At this event, Dr. Sarfarz Batool, Assistant Professor Department of Political Science spoke that gender-based violence is a serious issue in any society it can be irradiated by the family socialization of the children because the family is the primary and active agent of socialization in any society. Family can play a very vital role to end the issue of violence against women. Prof Dr. Syed Mussawar Hussain Bukhari Chairman Department of Political Science and Coordinator Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution IUB talked about the importance and respect of humanity and women in Islam. He said that Islam is a complete and balanced religion, it protects not only women but also all human beings. Holding in mind the teachings of Islam and given the life of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), we can make our society violence-free. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti conversed about the impacts of violence on the lives of women, she said we should not only end physical violence but also all types of violence against women, gender of all ages and types. Further, she said that State Policies can be very helpful to end this heinous crime in our society. In the end, the Chairman of the Department of Political Science Prof. Dr. Syed Mussawar Hussain Bukhari appreciated the efforts of Faculty Members of the Department of Gender Studies ( Mr.Ansar Abbas, Assistant Professor. Mr. Hasnaat Ahmad, Lecturer, Dr. Shahzad Mahmood, Lecturer, Mr. Sibtain Yasir, Lecturer) and he was very grateful to the students and Faculty Members of the Department of Political Science, Gender Studies and Public Administration, especially respected Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences who made this event very graceful and valuable by their existence. He was also very thankful to Mr. Athar Mehmood Lashari (Lecturer of Siraiki) From IUB news along with Camera man Malik Qasim . At the end an awareness walk was leaded By Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti Dean Faculty of Social sciences and Prof. Dr. Syed Mussawar Hussain Bukhari Chairman Department of Political Science in the building of faculty of Arts'. Mr Hasnaat Ahmad and Dr Shahzad Mahmood Lecturers of Gender Studies delivered awareness lectures on Gender Based Violence in the classes of BS Gender Studies 7th and 5th Semesters.
