  • It's REAL! One of the most elusive glitches of all time in Metroid Dread is finally solved! The Bomuhey Skew let's us axis skew to build speedboosts and shinespark ANYWHERE.
    Among other sequence breaks, this glitch enables: another way to acquire screw attack early on, getting past the orange portal early on, acquiring early gravity suit or acquiring wave beam with the gravity suit skip.

    i like how you give respect to all the other runners in giving the background on the tech. the full “speedlore” breakdown pays homage to the community element that drives speedrunning, and makes it all the more hype. in just a year dread has been thoroughly demolished, and it’s cool to have all those special moments documented. good work as always.

    Jokes aside, great job in explaining everything. Basically, what I was doing wrong with the trick was not taking the shinespark timer into consideration.. Should work fine now, though!

    Great tutorial as always. I think the reason why I cant get the skew very consistently right now is because I didnt really care about the spark timer. How can you tell when the spark timer is over?

      Mostly by feel. Although it roughly coincides with the sparkle effect from when the aeon gauge fills.

    After attempting this for nearly 6 hours I finally got it hah. Off ledge def my fav. For people having any trouble, my biggest issue was not understanding how fast you REALLY need to be, like there’s no time to breathe besides the pause buffer at the end. ADC-the second you press B to spark IMMEDIATELY press L, run and melee RIGHT after the L(could never manage to run off without melee) like I know the guide says exactly that but I can’t emphasize how strictly fast these inputs are, or atleast are for me.     I'm gonna try skewing against Broken EMMI while it's stunned and see if I can activate the slow slide animation while skewed

    I’m having trouble timing the b press to sink, I got it once but never again since then. any tips?

      Hello, glad to hear that!
      To answer your question about the B press, that's a hard one. You want your B press to roughly coincide with the frames where samus is visibly deeper into the wall when you do the flash slide turnaround.
      I've never looked into the specific frames to be honest, it was probably the hardest part to learn in shine sinking. What worked for me was practice and repetition. Keep practicing the inputs (ZL, A, direction, turnaround) and get more consistent at it by building muscle memory. You can still get a feel for it even without the shinespark - when you do your flash slide and press B correctly samus should not jump.
      Since you've already got it once just keep trying to replicate that success. It may be frustrating to have few successes but you'll get more consistent as you practice. Good luck!

    do you have any change to your control scheme? I saw a video that had the right stick like the left stick change in the sytstem settings. Or do you have normal setup?

      I do, even though that's unrelated to this video since you don't need any sort of remaps to setup bomuhey skew. Since you ask, I use R-stick as L-stick for early cloak pseudo and L/R d-pad as Y for easier mashing.

      @@Arkandy the only disappointing thing is that most people wont be able to do all these sequence breaks like raven beak skip or wave beam skip because they cant get the legacy version of the game. Maybe someone discovers a second way to setup invincibility everywhere.

      @@koopardorfabi0075 Wave beam skip is possible in current patch, or rather "early power bombs". But this tech is still very new and being looked into by the community.

    is there a diff/what are the diffs between the skew shown at 8:07 and 13:37 and if there is. have we discovered a way to correct the angel

      Indeed! For clipping walls you need samus to have a small angle/deviation from a perfectly aligned forward or backward skew. As for how to get it there are different ways that dont fit in a comment so just wait for the next tutorial which Im working on and should release in the next couple weeks.

    Do you happen to know what causes golzuna to spawn? I used this glitch to get to that boss fight room early but it didn't spawn. Great vid btw

      Golzuna won't spawn unless you release the X in Elun.

    I have a question. Is Bomuhey skew as hard as SASB? For someone who is relatively new to both techniques, which one would be more feasible to learn?

      Both are quite difficult to learn, but still I find bomuhey easier to do. Bomuhey is about getting used to the same pattern of quick inputs anywhere. So is short boost, however SASB is far more difficult than others due to leniency. It takes several nearly frame perfect inputs which leaves little room for error. But it also depends on what category you want to run or if you're learning for fun. You can't use bomuhey in NMG for instance.

    So basically to get this you need to land on a surface, perhaps you can do this on a frozen enemy

      Landing is not a "necessary step" to setup the glitch nor to get a skew. Once you've completed the inputs in mid air the bomuhey state is already set - but you need to be careful and not lose it before you land. As for the jump skew, you're in the axis skew angle the moment you turnaround jump. If you hold free-aim after jumping you'll see samus already facing that direction before landing. That said, you can skew anywhere you like.

      @@arikado891 I'm not entirely sure what you're talkin about bud. I am not skilled enough to do it consistently or keep the skew for very long, but I have been successfully achieving a skew when trying the grapple beam method.

      This one is not likely to get patched soon, like invincibility was. It's hard to perform. Casual players will stay away from the like 15 inputs required lol. No real reason to fix it aside from annoying the speedrun community.

      @@esaucortes5840 Probably. If you're used to doing quick inputs/combos as in fighting games I think you'll learn this stuff with relative ease. It's still fairly hard to master but it's all quite consistent once you do.

      Nope. This trick still defines the unrestricted speedrun categories and I doubt it will be patched until a Dread remake/port in 10 years.
