  • $3 fix,.. If you hit something in your yard and mower doesn't run or doesn't run the same as it did before, I Did a video on how to Pull Flywheel and Replace flywheel key without damaging anything. Tap holes in flywheel and use puller to remove flywheel.

Thank You for making this video. The key I bought is the wrong size, but I just went to China Supply and bought the wheel puller, and of course they do not have instructions
on how to use it. I may need to buy a new rotor, as the magnets on the side with only two squares does not have much magnetic power left and repairman said I needed a
new rotor. I bought a new spark plug and Ignition coil and had no spark. I noticed that My woodruff key now is 7/8 broken off and only a small silver part is noticeable.
Good thing as a retired electrician I have tapping drill bits and tools needed to do what You did.
ONE LAST THING: None of the bolts fit now, without drilling and tapping (is that normal for the sizes in the box) and when the YOKE thing is put on threads, the inner holes
for the two bolts that hold the yoke in place do not line up, almost like I may have to drill out some space, but Your lawn mower is different than mine.
2006 11A-418A765183623 21 inch cut made in USA B&S Engine.
Thank You for Your help and advice

The Yoke 1/4" puller bolts pulled out every time I used it. I made sure yoke was even, and I used a sawz-all to widen
the space between the two yoke holding bolts. washers are crap as well as bolts. I will buy 2 class 8 black 1/4" bolts and washers and the yoke will work ok.
Its a shame I cant upload a photo..... I did something stupid. I removed the Engine ignition coil and tried to use a small pry bar to get the rotor off, as the
three attempts I made that stripped the rotor threads 3 times is now about 3/8ths of an inch higher now then before. I cracked a small pipe that I hope
I can just use special putty and duck tape to fix.

Hi, you can upload a picture on my take a bath productions facebook page if you have access to FB. I am not sure what yoke you're using. I am just using a harmonic balancer puller for automotive purposes that happens to fit this application along with some 1/4" bolts I had in a drawer. I don't think I was using the bolts that came with it since they didn't fit if I remember right. If your mower is different, I'm not sure what that setup looks like off the top of my head. This flywheel had holes in it, but no threads cut into the holes. The 1/4" Tap was the closest thing to the hole size that was already there. I used a drill bit that was slightly smaller than 1/4. 13/64 I believe. If by chance you've drilled the hole to big for a 1/4 tap, then I would just go up to a 5/16 tap and use a 17/64 drill bit.

Yea I actually did use a black one on the flywheel nut... Technically u should... But sometimes I get lazy so I just used a regular socket on the smaller bolts since they come loose pretty easy... I've never had one break 😎

Barring N0T having a "Tap & Die Set"..... utilizing a couple 1/4" -20 NC self tapping bolts will put threads in the puller holes.

It would.. a bolt doesn't have tapered threads at the end, so it will work, but be more difficult.

Be careful when using a flywheel puller not to tighten the bolts down too far. Unfortunately I did that and one of the bolts busted through to the other side! I didn't know if it was okay to use a flywheel with a bolt-sized hole in it, so I went out and bought another one off Craigslist. $35 mistake, lol. Oh well, live and learn!

nice job man much appreciated, can I ask a stupid question, I thought when you used a impact driver you had to use the black impact sockets? ,thinking of buying one they look dead handy

Wish I would have seen this sooner .. I demolished a flywheel using the 3jaw puller

Always Remove The spark plug boot from the plug while working on the engine.

What if you hit a stump and your shaft now turns only by hand hard 2/3 of radius and appears to be somewhat bent? Can that be replaced as easily as the fly wheel?

2 pry bars or large screwdriver and a brass hammer much easier

Maybe, but if it's real tight, it could break the flywheel.. that metal doesn't do good when you try to put force on it.

Do NOT expect yours to be removed that easily.

Why not? I've pulled dozens of these and they all come off about the same...

Don't yap like that, you're begging to break the tap.
Half a turn then reverse to clear the thread and use lubrication on the tap.

You forgot to put the flywheel nut then the puller

    • @JLPicard440
      @JLPicard440  3 ปีที่แล้ว

You can do it that way. I usually will put a nut there if I'm going to be using a hammer so I don't mushroom out the end of the crankshaft... but with puller doesn't impact anything it just pushes. There's little chance it will mushroom anything out, but yes, you can put the nut there if you think it's better..

wish instructions would show how to use things, China Supply seems to think I know anything about replacing a key and pulling a flywheel.
