I'm a Tom Landry-era Dallas Cowboys fan, and Don Meredith was my first sports hero. Hayes was obviously very fast, but my favorite Cowboys receiver during this period was #19 Lance Rentzel. He had great hands and was a terrific route-runner. Frank Clark was another fine receiver.🏈
I was born November 21 1962 I also have seen every cowboys superbowl win and died during tough superbowl loses .especially against the hated steelers .now they try to say eagles are Dallas rivals but us true fans know it's the Washington Redskins. St.louis Cardinals when Jim hart was quarterback gave us a tough time for a couple years .but the Redskins thru Sonny Jorgensen. Billy Kilmer, Joe Theismann and a few times recently. Cowboys for life 💙.
In 1965 Bob Hayes was on his way of becoming rookie of the year. That is until the last game of the season and a guy from the Chicago Bears scored 6 touchdowns against the 49ers. That guy was Gale Sayers.

Theres a number of great receivers from the 60s to 70s that are in obscurity , Top of my mind Paul Warfield, Charley Taylor, Homer Jones ,Lance Bambi Alworth, Don Maynard, Sonny Randle, Gary Collins, Tommy Macdonald, art Powell, lionel taylor, raymond berry, charlie hennigan, fred biletnikoff, otis taylor, dan abramowitz, Warren wells, alot of great receivers who played in a different era , that was run dominant, Defense Dominant, QBs When they did throw was Rushed n Battered etc. But the older receivers some are snubbed , underrated cuzz not big stats etc. I'm glad this site captures some of the players who deserve some attention. If not the HOF at least in You Tubes Video History of the NFL free to the Public , For now at least.

Considering the 14 game season and rules of the day, Hayes has to be considered the greatest deep threat of all-time. In 1970 he had 889 yards on 34 catches, 26.2 yds/catch with 10 TD's, meaning about 1 TD per 3 catches. Can you imagine him in today's game that completely protects receivers. Remember Hayes was considerably bigger and faster than Tyreek Hill, today's fastest player.

I was raised on the Cowboys. Knew them all and their number and stats After the 2000 season sadly I had to face reality. It had been 5 yrs since a super bowl. Now its been over 25. The organization sucks. They dont have that same magic or mystic. Its over.
These were the 'boys my Dad raised me on he would get pissed at Dandy Don and have to leave the room he was kinda like Danny White just couldn't win the big one

Poor Lance had other demons he was dealing with. He thought it was bad then. It only got worse when he went to Los Angeles.
