Purty good shooting for a half blind country boy using semi- Buckhorn sights. Lol. Something special about working the action on a lever gun. You were thumping the steel pretty hard but if you can get it try some Underwood Hard Cast. Awesome stuff. Maybe a little bigger size coming that's good for reloaders? Good shooting.
@@ToolsandTargets Use to you could shoot 44 Special or 38 Special for a lot less than magnum. Now they are closer in price. Problem with a scope for it that depends on the use. I recently got the color case hardened 357 mag carbine big boy with the side loading gate. I put a Leupold vx3-hd 2.5-8x36 on mine and I think it's just about perfect for it. I did not have to remove my rear sight, I just lowered it down as far as it would go and it has just enough clearance for that 36mm objective. I used that one piece Talley mount that Henry shows on their website for the big boys. I think a Leupold is the perfect match for the Henry for two reasons. First and foremost they're made in America just like your Henry. Second I think that classic gold Leupold ring matches up nicely with the brass magazine tube on the Henry. And of course Leupold is quality stuff. I enjoy shooting my Henry so much that I already have a second one on the way. It's their Magnum Express rifle in 22 mag. That one is getting the 3-9x40 leupold vx freedom rimfire scope. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine!🤠
From what I could tell in the video , the action sounded pretty smooth . If you gel test the 44 mag you might be surprised at JSP performance out of the longer barrel. I'd go with a 1.5x5 over a dot for that gun, and a set of see through rings.
Just watched you with the Henry 45-70. Outside in a swing enjoying this video. Wife said she'd get me the H006 44, but they sold it locally and I'm not much on mail orders. Enjoying this video, lots of fun. They have the 357 mag version and i'm probably going to regret not getting it.
Very nice addition to your "Tool Box"! Henry manufacture's an awesome product for sure. I've got one on my "Wish List", thinking in .45-70 though, ( I have a T-Rex problem around my place 😉). Nice shootin', enjoy your new Henry!
I have the big boy but to get the 20" octagon barrel I had to get the brass receiver. Such a fun gun to shoot. I have a vortex 1-8 on it . Shoots great ( I know some people don't like glass on a lever action but I'm getting old and my eyes aren't as good as they once were). Love your videos. Especially the bullet reviews! You save me tons of money thank you for what you do
Thank you sir. One thing I wish Henry did was let you choose from all the options for any mix and match of their rifles. The way it is, I have to buy a dozen just to get at least one with all the options I want.😆
@@ToolsandTargets God it'd be great to have the side gate on mine. Mix and match would be awesome. I'd be willing to pay more for the options I actually wanted. Your steel Henry looks great. I wanted the steel one but they didn't have the octagon barrel lol
Nice gun I want to get myself a level action myself been thinking 44mag or 357 for Versatility so I can either shoot 38 special or 44 special but the 45-70 seems interesting
A little lever gun love, nice! Enjoy shooting my Rossi 92 357. With 38’s in feels like shooting a 22. Those XTP’s would be an awesome deer load. I’d think about a LPVO 1x6 or 1x8, 3x9 at the most. Would be interesting to see jelly testing with various loads. Thanks for the video!
Great review! There is definitely a noticeable felt recoil experience if you use the 44 magnum lever brass version which has the hard brass buttplate instead of a pad
@@ToolsandTargets By the way, love your channel, and it's nice to see a channel like yours that is entertaining and family friendly. Thanks for having no cursing in your videos. Even though I am not American (I'm from Canada), I love your patriotism and the video in which the chrony said 1776 and you played the anthem - that was hilarious. Blessings from the north, brother!
Now your talking, love my lever actions although mine are marlins and Winchesters but my 44 is a Marlin, been wanting a Henry in 327 Fed Mag but have not run across one, I like a 2x7 scope on mine and Leupold makes a nice one also Burris, my favorite is my lever in 357 mag its a Marlin but that caliber is a blast, with 38's there is no recoil and used to be cheap shooting but its still a blast at these higher prices
I might suggest adding a Williams 5D or FP receiver sight. The one's that mount to the side of the receiver, looks better than the ones that mount on top of the receiver. The added length of sight radius along with more precise alignment greatly increases accuracy without adding the bulk of a scope which decreases the handiness of a lever action.
I have a Henry lever gun similar to the one you have in this video. Mine is chambered in 357 Magnum/ 38 special. It is one of my favorite rifles for sure to take to the range. You may inspire me to pick up one of these 44 Magnum/44 special variants as well. What is one more caliber added to the many that I already have on hand?
I really like it and the larger lever and 20" bbl. Like you the octagonal would be nice but I do like the one you have! Low but you pulled them up! Tools those are supposed to be good guns. I think it will be a keeper!
really nice rifle tools....pretty good shooting with open sights....don't think i'd scope it...but i'm kinda old school when it comes to lever actions....henry makes a good gun...maybe one day
I have the 16" octagon barrel big boy 44. It's rugged where i hunt, and that big boy is perfect for deer and bear. I ran mine stock for a while, then I put a skinner sight on it, and it's a shooter now. Great little gun imo. It likes to shoot the xtp bullets 240gr.
@ToolsandTargets Mine shot great without it, but after I put it on, I wouldn't hesitate to make 150yd shot in my field. Great video sir, and a dandy rifle.
I have this gun with the small lever loop. I really like the larger loop. Looks like I'm going to order one from Henry. I like the look. I have no side gate, just the magazine tube. Nice gun. Thanks for the video.
Beautiful rifle! I have a Henry X in 44 magnum. I'm not a huge fan of scopes on lever guns, but my eyes are giving out on my so I picked up a 2-7x40 scope on it. I used Warne QD mounts so I can take it off at any time. I really enjoy the fiber optic sights at closer ranges.
That is a good choice! Wish they made that exact set-up with the round barrel but color case hardened receiver and in 357magnum. I would rather have 44 magnum but just getting a 357 its already a struggle for me to add a new caliber lol! Couple of small taps to the right on that front sight you will be dialed in good with the steel sights! That's awesome man! ❤Love love love it!! Happy Friday! ✌😎👍💥💥💥🎯
Yessir. I might just get it good and dialed in on the irons instead of a scope. I definitely like the look of levers with just the irons. I wanna pick one up in .357 too but they're nearly impossible to catch in stock.😣
@@ToolsandTargets It sure put a whallop on them 2 liter bottles and that watermelon just disappeared lol! Gonna have some fun with that beauty! :D .44 magnum, there is no substitute! 🤠💪
@@Nutty.357 That screw loosens the little diamond insert but it only lets you move it up or down in a little slot. I guess you could use that to change how deep the diamond sits in the notch for a different sight picture. You still have to tap it over for windage. They actually tell you to tap the rear sight for windage. They have added a set screw to the dovetail on the rear to lock it in after you tap it over which is good cause I always worry about it moving getting bumped ort something.
I think you should put a peep sight on that rifle, like a Skinner or Ranger Point Precision. I love my Henry 45-70 in blue steel. I took a whitetail last year and was pleasantly surprised how the Remington greenbox ammo performed on a deer. There was less meat damage than a shotgun slug, I say that because in my state half the counties are shotgun only, and a lot less damage than shooting with my .270 Win. As always great video 👍
Another fine video. I just picked up a golden boy 357/38 going to order from Henry scope base, going to put LPVO on it. Was wondering what scope base did you order ? My eyes are too bad to shoot very far with the open sights. Thank you neighbor.

Very nice! I have another one on the way too! I'm hooked on em!
From what I could tell in the video , the action sounded pretty smooth .
If you gel test the 44 mag you might be surprised at JSP performance out of the longer barrel.
I'd go with a 1.5x5 over a dot for that gun, and a set of see through rings.
Good idea. 👍
Get it!😆😆😆
Test that xtp in gel from that rifle
I can do that. I need to do more rifle stuff anyway.👍
I gotta get me a Henry one of these days. Beautiful. Enjoy the shooting. Can't wait to see what optic you set on it.
Decisions, decisions!
I have been thinking about getting a Henry myself. More on the line of the 357. Good shooting and video thanks.
Well worth the money. Extremely fun rifles.
Thank you sir. The .357 is super hard to find right now.😣
Very nice addition to your "Tool Box"! Henry manufacture's an awesome product for sure. I've got one on my "Wish List", thinking in .45-70 though, ( I have a T-Rex problem around my place 😉). Nice shootin', enjoy your new Henry!
Thank you sir. 45-70 you say? 😉
Thats a nice gun that henry rifle, nice shootin tex, keep up the fun videos.
Thank you sir. Tons of fun!
Got the 1 with the octagon barrel and CC Harding and its 1 of the nicest guns I bought in 50' years!
Nice. I definitely want a few more now.
Or ma'am if I made the wrong assumption.
@@ToolsandTargets God it'd be great to have the side gate on mine. Mix and match would be awesome. I'd be willing to pay more for the options I actually wanted. Your steel Henry looks great. I wanted the steel one but they didn't have the octagon barrel lol
Got a Brass frame side gate 44 with octagon barrel few weeks ago. It’s a absolutely beautiful rifle.
Nice! Big fan of these Henry rifles.
Nice gun I want to get myself a level action myself been thinking 44mag or 357 for Versatility so I can either shoot 38 special or 44 special but the 45-70 seems interesting
I want the .357 mag too. They're crazy hard to find in stock right now.
You can get the 20 inch with the octagon barrel , side gate with the color case hardened .44 model. I have one and it's a beauty
Yessir. Great rifles.
Is it heavy…?
@@claytonhatfield7452 To me, an old crow, it is. 7.84 lbs. Almost a pound lighter than the classic big boy which weighs 8.68lbs though.
Sweet looking tool and my fav cal .44 mag. I’ve been looking into Henry little by little, might have to get one in .44 🇺🇸 impressive 100yd shooting.
Thank you sir. I'm lovin it. Got another one coming very soon!
Appreciate ya brother. I'm definitely an LPVO fan.👍
Great review! There is definitely a noticeable felt recoil experience if you use the 44 magnum lever brass version which has the hard brass buttplate instead of a pad
Oh, I have no doubt about it. My brass plate .45-70 is a bruiser.😆
Nice video tools. I agree love the side gate. Keep em coming.
Thank you sir. Plenty more good stuff on the way!
I want a .357 too but you're right, they're almost impossible to find right now.😣
I might suggest adding a Williams 5D or FP receiver sight. The one's that mount to the side of the receiver, looks better than the ones that mount on top of the receiver. The added length of sight radius along with more precise alignment greatly increases accuracy without adding the bulk of a scope which decreases the handiness of a lever action.
Hmmm, I need to check that out.👍
I have a Henry lever gun similar to the one you have in this video. Mine is chambered in 357 Magnum/ 38 special. It is one of my favorite rifles for sure to take to the range. You may inspire me to pick up one of these 44 Magnum/44 special variants as well. What is one more caliber added to the many that I already have on hand?
Gotta catch em all! I want one in .357 too but they're really hard to find right now.😣
@@ToolsandTargets It took me about a year of going into several of my local shops every time I had an off day from work to find one.
I really like it and the larger lever and 20" bbl. Like you the octagonal would be nice but I do like the one you have! Low but you pulled them up! Tools those are supposed to be good guns. I think it will be a keeper!
Yessir. I think it's gonna be deadly with an optic on it.😎
Super sweet tool! If I ever can afford a smith model 29, I’ll be looking for one of these too
Thank you sir. I love this thing. Now I want even more of em!
@@ToolsandTargets I sold my Ruger Precision Rimfire this week, bought a cooler tool to replace it :) .22lr MP5
@@crankygunreviews Nice. My RK got one of those in a delivery last week.
@@ToolsandTargets it looks like the real thing, it’s made with a lot of polymer and cast aluminum- I hope it holds up
super nice tool there, I might have to start shopping for one !
It's definitely a sweet shooter!
WTH!! I was waiting for you to do your best Rifleman reenactment. That is the proper way to break in a lever gun.
😆😆😆
Very cool tools. Can’t wait to see what your next tool will be. Very nice gun.
Thank you sir. The next one is definitely on the complete opposite end of the spectrum!😂
really nice rifle tools....pretty good shooting with open sights....don't think i'd scope it...but i'm kinda old school when it comes to lever actions....henry makes a good gun...maybe one day
Thank you sir. I definitely like the look of levers with just the irons.
@@ToolsandTargets me too...i've got 94s and a couple of marlins only have one scoped...like you said it takes from the looks IMHO
I need to grab some of those sights to try out.
Nice. It was super easy to swap it out. Appreciate ya!
Excellent, great quality gun. Extremely practical. Good deer set up. Lotsa deer in our freezer with 44 magnum.
Nice! It's a nice one so far.
GREAT VIDEO AS USUAL SIR! CONGRATS ON YOUR NEW HENRY! NICE! 👍
Thank you sir!😎👊
Love my Henry!! Sold my 10-22 since I never shot it anymore
They are some sweet shooters. I need to do some more vids with the Golden Boy I picked up.
I like the looks of good ol irons on these lever guns too, but I sure could use the zooms.
Henry is a beautiful rifle
Yes it is.
Nice rifle! It’s on my wish list 🙏 Thanks for the test Tools 🤠
Appreciate ya checkin it out, brother! Really liking it so far.
@@ToolsandTargets I guess you dont have to drift the front sight in those?? Looks like the rear sight has a windage screw on it? i didnt know that!
That lever is a beaut. Dang Tools, you taggin that steel @100✊. I really like the look of the big loop nice choice sir
Thank you sir. I got another one coming soon!😎
When a man says "Like gat" you trust him. 💯
😎👊
@@ToolsandTargets I bought a big boy 44 last night after watching your video.
@@NONEYABEEz.88 Nice! I need to do some .44 mag gel testing with rifles.
Please do!! I'd like to learn about the different usable ammo for the .44 Big Boy. I purchased the exact one you have in the video. @@ToolsandTargets
I been wanting a lever action rifle for years
After I got the .22lr, I immediately wanted a larger caliber one.😆
The loading gate on a cheep one can cut you. Practice loading and unloading live ammo on a range; not at home...
First time watcher, love the channel
Love the levers….I have three Henry’s. The triggers are great!
I might have just picked up another one last week. I'm addicted.😆
Nice scenery, what state are you in? Love the henry, definitely on my wish list
Another fine video. I just picked up a golden boy 357/38 going to order from Henry scope base, going to put LPVO on it. Was wondering what scope base did you order ? I’m thinking the Henry Big Boy Picatinny Scope Mount for Drilled and Tapped Receivers Black BB-RSMP ? Also I’m looking pick up the same 44 you have here, instead of the brass. Great shooting. My eyes are too bad to shoot very far with the open sights. Thank you neighbor.
Thank you sir. I went with the BB-RSM just because I like the smoother look without the pic notches. The P model is more convenient for using one piece mounts and stuff though.😎👍
@@ToolsandTargets Thank you. Much appreciated.
That's some good shooting. I really like that new tool also.
Thank you sir. 😎👊
Love the Henry , you were hittin with it that’s for sure! Now I want one 🤣
It's too much fun!
Gee I wonder if that rifle came right off the shelf 😮
Great post. Those first rounds' were doing some damage to those steel targets. Oh yeah!!!
Tools&Targets, is that your new home defense weapon with Hornady Critical Defense loaded up?
That would definitely take care of business.😆
Just saying. That Hornady Critical Defense must mean that it’s for self defense lol.
Idk anyone who would dare carry that for self defense purposes.
@@ToolsandTargets I was actually joking.
I have a Henry Long Ranger in 308. I use it for hunting and it has a 4-12x scope that came on it when I bought it from my grandpa, its about perfect for what I need it for.
Nice. Love me some .308.😎👍
Geee , thanks Mr Tools , now I'm gonna have to figure out how to hide my future Henry 44 rifle purchase from the wife !!! LOL !! Thanks for the video !!
😂😂😂
Nice review on a nice gun been wanting one for a while.. but the vortex diamond back at 200 yards and in is the ticket don’t go cheap on a nice gun..👍
Thank you sir. I'll have to take a look at that one. Wait till you see the rifle on the video tomorrow.😎
I have a Big Boy Carbine in .357 / .38 Sp Brass with the hexagonal barrel and love it to death. No scope, just iron sights. I have a scope on my 1976 Marlin 336C however in .30-30

Blowing holes at a hundred clear through
It's a thumper!💥💥💥
Are you sure that first target is at 10 yards? Looks more like 5.
😂😂😂
Got no use for one but i like it none the less .
I really don't either but I want em all!😆
I'm jealous. Ive wanted one of those for years. Take it deer hunting this fall and video it for us.
I've been wanting to pick up one in a larger caliber since I got that Golden Boy.
@@ToolsandTargets maybe try some of those underwood extreme penetrators for bear
I'd forego the scope idea and install a Skinner peep sight instead. You're shooting pretty darn good with those semi-buckhorns. The peep will amaze you.
Thank you sir. I need to do that actually.
Tools is building a nice Henry collection. Great idea
Yessir!
