I am an old timer. My first car was a '66 Ford Custom with a straight 6 and 3 on the tree. I bought it used and drove the wheels off of it. Honestly, in their original configuration, there isn't a lot that can go wrong with these "analog" automobiles.

Ha. Mine first car very similar to yours; mine was a 65 automatic, otherwise the same setup. I inherited it from my dad in 79. I drove the heck out of it and never broke down. It was the ultimate beach cruiser it was a daily driver for morning dawn patrol and could carry all my mates and all our gear. Sick car. I feel nostalgic every time I see these vids and wish it had been a muscle.

I have a 65 2dr HT with a 390. C6, a 16 gal fuel cell and an electric pump like yours. I lost my vision and it just sits. My son and I built it. We were going to drive it to California. We painted it, but the original paint was just like yours. I don’t think I can make a trip like that now. You have a neat car, it is so much like ours it blows me away! Bill Ballinger Sr.

This Summit carburetor is a replica of the Autolite 4100, designed by Ford. It was the first carburetor with annular discharge secondary venturis. Holley bought the design from Autolite, and added their own touch to it, so the accelerator pump is Holley, as is the secondary vacuum diaphragm, and the floats hang from the cover. Also, it uses Holley size threads on the jets. The original Autolite is a better carburetor if you ask me. Have one from 1965 on my Galaxie, and it runs without any issues whatsoever.

There are things on the 4100 I like better and things on the Holley I like better. Auto lutes are hrs to come buy. I redid one on camera for a 66 4 speed 428 galaxie my buddy has. All online

That car is pretty well sorted out and it sounds great. Big fan of the 289. As a teenager I drove a 1965 Galaxy 500 with a 289 4 speed. Let me tell ya, that thing could get rowdy in a hurry. It had an emerald green body with eggshell white top and black interior. Knock your eyes out car. One day I hope to come across one worthy of buying. Glad ya had a good trip Luke and will be waiting to hear about the return trip. God Bless brother!

I put a new GM crate 350 engine in it and rebuilt the turbo 350 trans. It always started and went anywhere I told it to go. The only problem was keeping gas in it lol.

That's an unusual 1965 Galaxie 500. That roofline with a B pillar was most often seen on the Custom 500, which was the low end big Ford. However, the 65 Custom 500 would have had round taillight lenses set in a "flattened round" bezel to match the body lines, while this one has the Galaxie 500 taillights. Also, the lack of fender badge and chrome strip is more consistent with the Custom 500. This .pdf shows the Custom 500 and its distinctive roofline on page 11. www.xr793.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/1965-Ford.pdf

I grew up with carburetor's and fuel injection. When you did maintenance you always saved the good old part and stuck it in your tool box or glove box. So you always had a good old spare cap, rotor, condenser, points, coil wire etc....in a box or tool box or glove box of your car. This way on a 3000 mile trip is something failed you had a spare on hand just in case. Maybe it was because my Dad was in the US Army but that is what I was taught. You always get spare old belts on hand as well. 11 O'Clock at night on a dark disserted high way was not a place you wanted to be stuck until someone came past you on the way to work many hours latter. Plus it used to be all the stores and towns along the interstate where 3X as expensive if you needed a part. Breaking down in Death Valley could be your end!

I live in Suffolk, Va. I like your Galaxie. I have ridden in one like it. It was a beast. But, it does deserve a decent paintjob. The one I rode in was kind of a pale greenish white. Or whitish green. Something along those lines. Pick your color, but I would go light, rather than dark on this one. It kind of looks like a Halloween scare mare car, now. These were popular as police cars, too.

There are tollways in the Midwest. Driving from WI to Chicago along I-90/94 there are 5 before you hit the city. Not sure how expensive they are now though. Back in the day it was like 50 cents.

One day I'll get my dream car 63 Gal 2 door. Seen one in my hometown growing up and I loved that car. If I remember right had a 352 4sp car. She would raise the front end off the ground stock off the line.
