    In days gone by, I delivered to the Minneapolis Northfield and Southern Railroad. They had shops in Golden Valley, very close to North Minneapolis,, where the company I worked for was located. They had a few,, not sure how many SW1200s.. Progressive Rail still operates a few in the South Eastern suburbs of St. Paul.
    The guys in the shop use to let me climb up in the cab of their really superbly maintained little switchers. Even though I have no artistic skills, I never miss your video drops.

      Thank You for sharing that. I love to hear stories like you just shared. I had the privileges of open access at the SRY (Southern British Columbia Rail) shops "Trapp Yard" in the nineties. I climbed aboard many of there locomotives. I also have extensive photo coverage of some unique EMD SW9/1200 models of which some were scrapped but many rebuilt and running to this day, upgraded and beautifully painted. It's hard to believe they were built in the early seventies and they still work as new. These EMD's have been well cared for and they look like they are still in mint condition.

      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am excited for several reasons: 1. I get a plethora of detail parts which I can also use for other EMD builds, etc. 2. I get to model two or three SW900RS (Road Switcher) versions which date back to the nineteen seventies. SRY inherited 6-7 SW900RS from BC Hydro Rail down the street from where I grew up as a kid. There is always context to the passion. The Proto 2000 are nice models as well, but they can't hold a candle to these Rapido offerings. I usually do model builds in the winter, so I have a few projects to keep me busy once I finish my BC Rail Dash 9-44CW. Cheers.

    Your video inspired me to write to Rapido. Clearly, the EMD SW1200 is intended for serious modelers, and is so important if you're attempting to create a truly realistic model of a specific railroad. As such, I noted they should watch your video (because it's sooooo emotional! JK - it's SO good). I also noted the impact and sales potential of creating several other earlier generation locomotives - e.g. GP-9, SD-9, U-33, etc. Aside from those comments, it would be awesome if ANYONE would offer modern scale drivetrain locomotives such as what I've mentioned in N Scale, as well as HO. Sure, some things related to customization are tougher in N scale, but not everything. So, Boomer... thanks for not only sharing a terrific overview, but in motivating some of us to actually take some action! Cheers!

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank You David! If Rapido were to produce a GP-9 "Undec," I would be first in line to pre-order. They really know how to serve the railroad community. They actually understand the culture in every regard. Furthermore, most serious modelers are Boomers, so they didn't forget about us did they? I respect them for that alone. In a recent Rapido video with various in-company contributors it was mentioned that the factory in China just hates undec models for the very reason you are so impressed. Every model is road-specific, so the undec model covers all options -- which just screws up the manufacturing process terribly. They are set up to mass produce one version at a time and to collect and package parts for all options just drives them nuts.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rapido also understands the importance of serving the scratch-builder/kit-bash community as well. After all, they come from the same modeler's culture when you think about it. They have to build the models for reproduction to begin with. This is where Athearn really drops the ball (by omitting the "undec" versions), and where Rapido knocks it out of the park! Furthermore, it is why I will always support Rapido in the way I do. I'll be promoting there product in the future as well because I know they care about the whole community. Yes, we modeler's are a small part - but we are also a very significant part as well. Cheers.

    All I can say is wow!! Rapido have not only lifted the bar they have smashed the ceiling. To buy the detail parts alone for just one railroad specific engine would normally cost more than the retail price of the complete locomotive set. I hope this is a continuing trend and forces other manufacturers to lift their game. Could you imagine how this would look for USRA Steam Locomotives and cars of the 40's. By the way, how does it run?

    Wow for once in the last 3 years Rapido has hit it 100% out of the park. Don't get me wrong they are a great manufacturer, but as of late they have been plagued with quality issues.

    Yeah they have awesome products but the factory is in China, which what's not anymore. So they design the products in Canada but all the manufacturing is done over seas which is unfortunate that they have to make the stuff in China to be able to include all these different pieces. Saying all that I still love Rapido models and the attention to detail, precision of the details, and I think great operating motors. Nice kit for sure. 👍

      Almost all my tools are made in U.S.A. Had them for over 30 years and they still work like new! The aforementioned stuff I throw in the garbage. Cheers.

      It is not that often I get excited about a model kit like this. I guess I feel good about it because I also acquired all the extra parts to complete my Proto 2000 Switcher as well. Cheers.

    Yeah, yeah… I give them 1 out 10. Why?
    I model O scale…
    🙁😩🥲

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Been there done that . . . lol. I worked in "fine scale" (1/48) back in the day. I did standard guage and narrow guage. I also model Interurban, bronze overhead wire, etc. Scratch built just about everything as well. I love "O" scale, but HO Scale is superior for the shelf layout in my opinion. Cheers. ~ Boomer.

    Seems like a waste to me. You're only going to use one can and one hood and the rest will just go in the junk drawer.

    • @boomerdiorama
      @boomerdiorama  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Respectfully, I don't think so Ken. It's nice to have for the Proto chassis I have as well. They are nicer cabs and vented long hoods. They also have tons of railings and detail parts as well I can use. Therefore, as a modeler, none of it is junk drawer for me. i.e. All the extra Checker and Tread Plate I can also use, not to mention the Stair Treads, Horns, Sun Shades, Coupler Boxes, Tank Details, MU hoses, Bay Windows, Bezels, Louvers, etc. etc, These kits are a dream for kit bashers and scratch builders. Cheers.
