For me, what makes this fight great and a standout in the series is that it's not just happening for plot or even character reasons. It's not about stopping the bad guy because he has the key to the bomb or whatever; it's not about revenge, it's not about rivalry or jealousy or who gets to wear a dragon tattoo. It's not even really about the Yakuza. it's a pure clash of values, Mine's cynical nihilism against Kiryu's unshakeable drive to do what's right. I've never loved Kiryu more than in this moment, where in the midst of beating the shit out of a guy he's still trying to save his soul.

Can I just take a moment to express my love for the character of Yoshitaka Mine? Unlike other Yakuza villains who are simply motivated by their lust for power(Nishiki, Tsuneo, Aizawa being the most notable ones), Mine wanted Tojo leadership just for the hell of it. He felt betrayed after the death of his foster father and devoted his life to earning money, only to end up hating it the most by the end as in his eyes, he deems money to be the only thing people appreciate him for. The only man he truly ever respected, Daigo, was the first person to treat him as an equal, and Daigo's comatose state made him feel so utterly broken that he ended up scheming to attain Tojo leadership feeling that despite its meaninglessness to him, it'd fill the void in his heart. And by the end, he has the best moment of redemption in the entire series, learning to finally trust others and choosing atone for his crimes while Daigo was comatose as the little bit of righteousness that bloomed within him during the final moments of his life. All in all, Mine's the best antagonist in the franchise, and no other future Yakuza villain will top him in my eyes.
Nishiki wanted to become someone who everybody looking up at him because he got betrayed and everyone looked down at him and they compare kiryu to him and alot of other things unlike other bullshit villains like ryuji who are villains because they are just VILLAINS Nishiki and Mine are the top best carcters in the series

The conclusion to this fight is so incredibly written. Kiryu's words weren't enough to get through to him so he had to use force. In losing, Mine realized that he really didn't have anyone that cared for him more than superficially. Yet when that phone rings, we know who's on the other end. It's the one person Mine, and the player, thinks is in his corner. Now that Kiryu's point has hit him, he resolves to emphasize to her that he cares about her, only for her to interrupt and prove his fixation on money even truer than you ever could've feared... Never before had I seen an antagonist's worldview and ideology crumble in such a way.

I found Yakuza 3 to be the weakest in the whole franchise, but i found Mine to be a fantastic character, i wished he had more screentime. However, this fight was a banger.
I feel like 3 was weak up until the halfway point. When you go back to Kamurocho and fight Kazama’s brother from America is where the story really gets good. The real thing holding 3 back is the combat. It’s much tougher to get into casually because of the block spamming enemies and how slow it is to get exp points unless you grind sub-stories.
There's something poetic about Kiryu proving his philosophy is stronger than Mine's with his fists, then the "Level Up Ready! Soul!" popping up right at the end.
Despite my gripes with Yakuza 3, despite the combat having only grabs or the third finishing blow, despite the heat actions dealing less damage to bosses than regular attacks and despite (most of) the bosses dealing less damage than a water balloon, Mine will forever be one of the sickest fights in the series, from his character, to the song, to the dynamic intro, to the moveset and to the fact that he actually attacks you and when he does attack he actually deals damage it’s just an S tier boss fight and will always be one of my favourite fights in the series

I never expect that the subtitle will change too 13:17 still having time to smoking even during the battle Looks like most of us hope Mine survive after falling with Richardson
Mine is perhaps only boss battle that Kiryu canonically had a hard time fighting with because you can see in the cutscene all the scars and blood on Kiryu is because Mine fought him singlehandedly meaning Mine nearly gave Kiryu run for the money by himself only. Rest of the boss fights had a somewhat cheat maneuver that had previously tired Kiryu out
It pisses me off so much when people say that Ryuji was a true rival in strength to kiryu? I mean, kiryu fought the entire Jingweon, ryuji, terada, and then ryuji again, all with a recently healed wound in his stomach. Ryuji got beaten by Kiryu, had a nap, and then got beaten again. And don't go saying "but muh ryuji was shot" because so was kiryu. Hell in the first ryuji fight after the Jingweon ryuji had a sword and kiryu still had the energy to beat up 5 other men.
@@auhs6240 I would argue that Ryuji going from being knocked unconscious to immediately being shot when he woke up arguably put him in even worse condition than Kiryu for the final battle, which is why he died after the fight, though the fact that Mine put Kiryu on such a back burner to be physically injured in the cutscene after it does make him (and Joji) one of the more unique boss fights in the seriee
@@jaypostromboli-jpgamertv-457 yes it was. They showed an ad for the wii u that showcased the systems ability to play on the screen without the tv and he was playing yakuza 4
what frustrates me the most is when people don't understand mine or why he did what he did, when it's made super obvious that it's all about daigo. he stabs one of his own men for insulting daigo, he joined the yakuza for daigo, he wanted to be chairman for daigo. he says in this scene alone that he doesn't care about power, he would not have gotten involved with any of this if it weren't for daigo getting shot. he felt like he had to protect daigo's honor and legacy. and I really don't know if mine could have shot daigo, I really don't think he could have. why bring him all the way up the roof and wait for kiryu to come if he was just going to shoot him anyway? kiwami 3 better expand on this ending a bit more, since I feel like mine was incredibly conflicted here, like anyone is when they have to make a decision regarding a loved one when they're in this sort of state.
This game really deserves the Kiwami treatment. Imagine how good it could be with the smooth combat of newer games, better graphics and maybe a few extra flashbacks for Mine to show how he met Daigo and found purpose with him. Sure, he talks about it, but seeing it would have more impact, much like how Nishiki's backstory really improved 1.
I would agree, but I don't want the DE Drago Style to taint this. To this day I'll never understand why RGG replaced Kiryus style with that boring one, but gave the REAL Dragon of Dojoma style to some schmuck in the coliseums.
I love how bad the combat system in yakuza 3 is, but you completely IGNORE it by running behind the enemy and then hitting him from behind so he can't block. Genius.
@@sladejosephwilson2300 Hell no, I go out of my way to try every move when playing games. Yakuza 3... I just couldn't, the combat ruined it for me, broke the immersion too much.
Says a lot that all the way in Yakuza 8, Mine is one of three fallen foes Kiryu still treasures the memory of, and the only other two are Ryuji and Nishiki.
Fun fact: since i refused to ever heal while in a battle in this game i had to fight mine with 1 hp thankfully because of that i had heat generating and i could be invincible as long as my heat didnt drop below a certain point
Also consider the lore of Mine's Tattoo which is a Kirin. It is the only animal that can kill a dragon so it makes sense he gave Kiryu his toughest fight even to this day.
ismt mine the only antagonist that was able to bring kiryu down to his knees? dude was crazy strong. despite it being my last favorite game in the series, mine was probably my favorite villain.
I just beat Yakuza 3 Remastered for the first time not even half an hour ago. I fucking loved it. This game is in 2nd place in my favorite Yakuza games, with 0 being first. The part that hit me the most in this game, was when Rikiya died. Tachibana's death in 0 made me sad as well, but Rikiya was on a whole other level, making me tear up. And Kiryu's breaking down didn't help either. This final boss battle was something to remember. Mine was a really good villain, and I lost all respect for him when he slapped Haruka, but when I finished this fight, I regained that all back. In other words, Yakuza 3 is not the weakest game in the series, it's actually one of the strongest, imo. Well, on to 4!
Mine was simply too based to be allowed to live. If he had remained in the picture, the Tojo would’ve actually thrived for once! Can’t have that in MY Yakuza series! Seriously though, what a cool final boss. Wish Mine had stuck around for longer, he could easily be up there along with Ryuji and Nishiki for most iconic villains if he’d just been part of a more memorable game.

@@auhs6240 agree ryuji is overrated
Nishiki?
@@auhs6240 I would argue that Ryuji going from being knocked unconscious to immediately being shot when he woke up arguably put him in even worse condition than Kiryu for the final battle, which is why he died after the fight, though the fact that Mine put Kiryu on such a back burner to be physically injured in the cutscene after it does make him (and Joji) one of the more unique boss fights in the seriee
@@Rare_R1 nah nishiki wasn’t that strong tbh. Plus Jingu tired out Kiryu
i like kiryu's voices when he throws a punch in this game
I don't believe Mine is dead he probably landed on that blackmarket dealer
A man who was just on a hospital bed has better accuracy than in-game enemies with guns.

Just in time for Yakuza 4!
Me too
Today's the last day of Yakuza 4's PS3 exclusivity.

Man the timing with the sound of the lighter and the start of the xylophone or whatever it is synced so perfectly
13:17 Badass Kiryu, then followed by triple EWGF from Mine XD
He is not gonna sugarcoat it
what frustrates me the most is when people don't understand mine or why he did what he did, when it's made super obvious that it's all about daigo. he stabs one of his own men for insulting daigo, he joined the yakuza for daigo, he wanted to be chairman for daigo. he says in this scene alone that he doesn't care about power, he would not have gotten involved with any of this if it weren't for daigo getting shot. he felt like he had to protect daigo's honor and legacy. and I really don't know if mine could have shot daigo, I really don't think he could have. why bring him all the way up the roof and wait for kiryu to come if he was just going to shoot him anyway? kiwami 3 better expand on this ending a bit more, since I feel like mine was incredibly conflicted here, like anyone is when they have to make a decision regarding a loved one when they're in this sort of state.
Totally agree. Love Mine ❤
Fly is the best final boss theme in the series along with the best boss, fite me.
Oath of Enma and Two Dragons is still better than this one.
Battle for the dream? Scattered Moment
Battle for the dream, scattered moments, for who's sake are all better than this
Ishin’s death of a Bodhisattva is the best theme by far
What about the way of life ost?
Dragon vs Kirin...
Save for maybe Monster Hunter, that's not a dynamic you see very often.
At 22:49 the gun comes from under the ground, under the grate (or whatever you call it) and then it is above the grate.

10:32 so they jumped into each other, and then without touching they both dropped backwards
If you think about it Mine is pretty much just a evil version of Kiryu
Man, I really liked them as team mates in Ishin, even tho they are playing as different characters
I loved this fight. My favorite final boss so far. This game has some of the best boss fights in the series.
He was such a cool character. Really wish he lived.
The leader of black monday sounds hilarious. hahahaha
Reminds me of house of the dead
All of his lines as he was being dragged off the edge of a skyscraper just sound like a mild inconvenience. "NO!" "STOP IT!" lol.
Mine like Nishiki did not get enough screen time and both didn’t really need to die
What? Nishiki got enough screen time
This game really deserves the Kiwami treatment.
Mine would look so good in DE
Ended up being my favorite yakuza after playing each one.
I love how bad the combat system in yakuza 3 is, but you completely IGNORE it by running behind the enemy and then hitting him from behind so he can't block. Genius.
I believe that’s the intended way you’re supposed to play the game
People like you only mash and then complain about losing without trying something else.
@@sladejosephwilson2300 Hell no, I go out of my way to try every move when playing games. Yakuza 3... I just couldn't, the combat ruined it for me, broke the immersion too much.

Those EWGFs...
Says a lot that all the way in Yakuza 8, Mine is one of three fallen foes Kiryu still treasures the memory of, and the only other two are Ryuji and Nishiki.
Goda and Mine is not totally scumbag liked Iwami and Jinku. They just fighted for their ambition and honour. At least, both of them were fair fighter.
imo yakuza 3 is the best game of the series
13:16 Mine didnt deserve the disrespect
Fun fact: since i refused to ever heal while in a battle in this game i had to fight mine with 1 hp
thankfully because of that i had heat generating and i could be invincible as long as my heat didnt drop below a certain point
Kiryu after the Mine fight: 17:50 and people still say Ryuji is stronger
Ryuji has more strength. But is probably the slowest villain in the series
Mine is Kiryu, if Kiryu never had Nishiki, Yumi and Kazama. They're pretty much the same, just different upbringings.
@@RubyMVmistress yeah true two sides of the same coin
Also consider the lore of Mine's Tattoo which is a Kirin. It is the only animal that can kill a dragon so it makes sense he gave Kiryu his toughest fight even to this day.

@@JohnnyUriahYakuza 5 Kiryu has already been confirmed to be Prime Kiryu.
Man as much as yakuza 3 frustrated the hell out of me, Mine's boss fight made everything right and absolutely loved every second of it.
Mine being alive would have drastically changed the plot for Yakuza 4. HIs influence in gathering money for the Tojo was huge.
