My adopted cat didn't adopt me at all. Sometimes cats are too stressed and they just shut down psychologically in order to be able to deal with this stress. My cat was very stressed and thus quiet, like frozen, in the room full of other cats (it's this way in my country). I chose it. While signing papers and paying, only at this moment the shelter person told me that this cat was adopted and returned because it made pipi outside of the litter. Well, I took it anyway. At home, yes, i experienced the pipi outside the litter, the constant diarrhea with blood. It cost me over 500$ in bills for the analyses and they couldn't propose me any treatment. At that moment I decided that my love will heal (what was I thinking?...). So I didn't stress the cat (it was hiding about 2 months, coming out only for food), cleaned pipi, took out the carpet, put some essential oils unpleasant for the cats etc. In one month probably the cat started to do his needs only in the litter, in two months it started to lay somewhere within our view, after 8 months it came for the first time on my lap and purred..., after two years it showed me its belly and let it pet, the blood and diarrhea progressively disappeared in maybe 5 years. And my girl is still with me after 13 years (she's over 14 now).

this is EXACTLY how my cat Carrie adopted me! vet took her out of the cage, she lept right onto my shoulder and that was that. I was still worried I wasn't equipped for her but she had no concerns. Nearly 4 years later, she's still devoted to me. she's literally sitting on a bookshelf across from me watching me type.
Yup my baby girl leapt out of the cage right into my arms. Her brother was more shy, but I took both because they were so close. It was so hard to give them back, but I had to wait two weeks for them to be spayed/neutered before I could take them home. 2 weeks later, she jumped back in my arms again, and 16+ years later, I'm still so grateful to have them. 🐈 🐈⬛
Outdoor cat kept showing up in my yard but wouldn't come near. Then one day he came to me and crawled on me, purring and kneading and headbutting and meowing. Resistance was futile. I belonged to him from that day on. I love him more every day.

He won't let me get closer than 3 or 4 feet while he eats. I put out a cat house for him. I feel so sorry for these outdoor kitties when it's cold. I want to get him to trust me so I can pet him, I want him to know he's not alone and that he deserves love and affection.

He slept by my pillow or on my chest every night. He was the best damn friend I ever had and he still makes me cry when I think about him. I called him the best dog ever because he acted like one. He could do tricks, and I swear he knew a little english, because if he was getting too clingy, I could tell him "you're bugging me man, go lay in your bed." and he would. Or, when it was time for a snack, he would bite my arm and purr, and I would ask him "treat?" And he would go sit by his bowl in the kitchen and wait for me to help him get one. Gah, I miss that little fucker.
He likely legit knew English. It is scary honestly how much they can understand. There is a person on youtube who taught her cats to talk back with buttons. They are able to have full blown convos and understandings. Cats aren't dumb, they just lack the ability to speak back in a way we can understand. If anything we are the dumb ones unable to listen to what they have to say.
We went to a shelter just as the pandemic hit. They had 6 cats. Three little cute adorable kittens and 3 older cats. 5 of the cats were ultra snuggly and wanted attention. 1 was in the back completely curled up scared out of her mind. My wife was told by the person at the shelter that the cat that was hiding was probably never going to be adopted and she was going to have to be put down....well guess who got adopted, and after spending a night hiding in our ceiling, pooing because of fright and refusing to eat for 3 days, now jumps up on the bed to sleep with us and get cuddles. You never know what these poor things have gone through but with love they eventually realize that they are home. Hugs to all people that adopt a pet.

Five years ago, I went to the shelter looking for a short-haired, female, cat. I was instantly chosen by a long haired male named Sylvester. I renamed him Monty, and he has to be the most over protective, clingy cat I have ever seen. He’s helped me through hard times, and I don’t know what I would do without him.
My beloved cat "BJ" did the same thing at the Humane Society in 1993... she reached thru the cage and literally grabbed my face and pulled me to her. I had her for 17 years... I miss her so much. Thanks for posting.

I can't explain how true u are... I had a cat named "nakku"... We Bengali people give some funny name to our pets...as his nose was black… we called him nakku.... I went for a morning walk one day, and when I was returning home, he found me...he was only 15-20 days old stray cat... I was trying to ignore him bcz already I have cats in my home, but he left me no choice... I was adopted by him immediately. he was my father's prince... he lived happily with us for 3 years until his last breath... RIP nakku🙂😭
We have a homeless kitty that did the same to my wife. She waited at my parents house until we came back a couple days later and she hasn't let my wife out of sight 2 yrs later since we took her home to try and find her "owner"
Reminds me of our cat, Fuego, who's coincidentally the same colors as Theo. Fuego came up to our door at the beginning of the lockdown, meowing and alarmingly thin. My wife gave me puppy-dog eyes and I reluctantly agreed to feed her a can of tuna (not reluctant out of lack of compassion, I just knew where this was headed). We set it out on the front porch for her, and she made it disappear in record time. And the moment the plate was clean, she lifted her head and walked straight in through the still-open front door. Just straight up walked into our house. I bought her a litterbox and cat food that day on my lunch break, and that's how we got a cat. Lovable little brat.
What a wonderful story. The fact your cat lived that long, which is ancient in cat years, just goes to show how much you cared, protected and loved your feline friend. Bless you.

Same here. I had 15 years with Sammy. He was two when I adopted him. In the shelter they had him and a brother from a second litter who was 10 months old. I can only have one cat where I live so took Sammy because he was two and everyone would want the kitten. I did call to check to make sure his brother was adopted and he had been. I do miss him. I bet your Charlie was loved just as much as my Sam. Bless them 💜💜

I have a friend who's 100% a dog person, "hates" cats, and even she fell in love with him. Charlie was estimated to be about 7 or 8 when I adopted him. He had a sign affixed to his cage that said "Please take me home. No-one wants me because I'm not a kitten anymore". Broke my heart. How could I NOT give him a loving, safe home ?

He was a blessing and so gentle just like bagpuss 😀. That was such a wonderful thing you did for Charlie and he would of known he was safe and loved. You made him happy. Cats are exceptional. I had one that was a neighbours and she left her outside in all weathers. I took her in when they left her behind, she was 23 when she died. We had her for many years.Tim was only 12 with a tumor but he was so independent and wise. He would bring home dead stiff pigeons which looked like solid skittles and I knew he had found them and not killed them. He brought home a large flat fish and I was sweating he'd pinched the neighbours tea 😰 So many good memories and shared love. We have been fortunate 💜
I was definitely NOT a cat person until I met my husband..he brought his rescued cat to my house...at first, he (the 🐱) and I just ignored each other. Until one night when we had gone to bed, I felt something creeping up between my husband and I. It was that damn cat...lol. He creeped up real slow, got right up to my face and head bumped me...that was it, we were best friends until the end. 💕😇

This cat looks way closer to an adult than a kitten, yet muwing like a kitten. They know what they’re doing lol. “If I make cute bb sounds, hooman’s heart will belong to me” yep 💯 lol
Fun fact, meowing is something cats rarely or never do to other cats naturally, especially after the kitten stage, it's something they started doing because people respond to it. They mainly domesticated themselves by pushing our buttons correctly.
When we were at the shelter, we were looking in the back room (where the less friendly/less healthy cats were held) and we came across this huge mountain of fluff. We peeked in and said hello, and behind all of that chub was a little head that looked over a fat shoulder, and let out the sweetest beep. My gf and I knew instantly that we had to have her; Porthos has been with us for 2 years now, and she's lost 12 pounds!
I'm a guy and had to hold the tears back. Looks like my Latte. Same colour. Our neighbour's cat gave birth to him under our house. He always came to us because he hated his owners. He adopted our family and cried when the neighbour locked him up next door. One day the neighbour came around and offered him to us. Of course, we said "yes".

Absolutely beautiful! Hard to walk away when a little one takes to you like that. When I went to adopt a cat many years ago, there were dozens in the kitten room. I walked up to the glass and my beautiful little Sidney was running around playing with all the other kittens. Suddenly he stopped and looked at me...and I looked at him. We just stared at each other. It was like something out of a movie. There were younger, much cuter kittens available, but that didn't matter to me. Sidney was my cat, and I was his person. I still miss my little buddy so much after all these years.

It's alright, it's fun getting to know them once you bring them home, it was really hard to take pictures of one of ours because he bumped his wet nose on the camera so many times it got blurry

I truly believe that pets like cat's and dog's come into our life for a reason. We adopt them thinking we are saving their life but really they are saving us. My stray dog Max came into to my life and has been a blessing for me.
I adopted a kitten from a shelter years ago. The kittens were 2 to a cage and all were scared and hiding except for the black one meowing and ready to jump out. I opened the door and she jumped on my shoulder and purred so loud I felt it in my feet. That was it, took her home.
Oh wow we had exactly the same except a him rather than a her. We went to the shelter and this one black kitten was climbing up the bars, reaching his paws out to us and meowing constantly. We've had him for 8 years now.

I highly appreciate everyone who runs any animal shelter and gives their time to take care of abandoned animals. But watching Theo is just sad. He literally says with his body and voice "oh dear human, take me away from this horrific place, i don't wanna live in this caged prison with other cats being imprisoned, i promise, i will be your best friend for ever, just take me away to your home, pleeeeease!".

I've learned that the bond between a Human and an Animal is a beautifull powerful thing that will last for eternity, even long after death. I still love my Grandmother's German Shepherd Chow-chow mix Dixie, even though she left us a decade ago now. And I know she still loves me too. And I can still see her face every time I look at a cat or dog. And I can still hear her voice. And I can still feel her fluffy warmth. Five years ago, I went to the shelter looking for a short-haired, female, cat. I was instantly chosen by a long haired male named Sylvester. I renamed him Monty, and he has to be the most over protective, clingy cat I have ever seen. He’s helped me through hard times, and I don’t know what I would do without him.

I was a "I don't like cat's" person, then I was chosen by a black cat with green eyes that looks like Toothless. I now have more cardboard boxes in my house than I ever thought possible.
I had an orange cat that was my age. He passed when we were both 17. I still miss him.

I can't explain how true u are... I had a cat named "nakku"... We Bengali people give some funny name to our pets...as his nose was black… we called him nakku.... I went for a morning walk one day, and when I was returning home, he found me...he was only 15-20 days old stray cat... I was trying to ignore him bcz already I have cats in my home, but he left me no choice... I was adopted by him immediately. he was my father's prince... he lived happily with us for 3 years until his last breath... RIP nakku🙂😭
We have a homeless kitty that did the same to my wife. She waited at my parents house until we came back a couple days later and she hasn't let my wife out of sight 2 yrs later since we took her home to try and find her "owner"

Reminds me of our cat, Fuego, who's coincidentally the same colors as Theo.
Fuego came up to our door at the beginning of the lockdown, meowing and alarmingly thin. My wife gave me puppy-dog eyes and I reluctantly agreed to feed her a can of tuna (not reluctant out of lack of compassion, I just knew where this was headed). We set it out on the front porch for her, and she made it disappear in record time. And the moment the plate was clean, she lifted her head and walked straight in through the still-open front door. Just straight up walked into our house.
I bought her a litterbox and cat food that day on my lunch break, and that's how we got a cat. Lovable little brat.

I adopted him immediately and we had 15 years together as best pals.
Same here. I had 15 years with Sammy. He was two when I adopted him. In the shelter they had him and a brother from a second litter who was 10 months old. I can only have one cat where I live so took Sammy because he was two and everyone would want the kitten. I did call to check to make sure his brother was adopted and he had been. I do miss him. I bet your Charlie was loved just as much as my Sam. Bless them 💜💜

I have a friend who's 100% a dog person, "hates" cats, and even she fell in love with him. Charlie was estimated to be about 7 or 8 when I adopted him. He had a sign affixed to his cage that said "Please take me home. No-one wants me because I'm not a kitten anymore". Broke my heart. How could I NOT give him a loving, safe home ?

He was a blessing and so gentle just like bagpuss 😀. That was such a wonderful thing you did for Charlie and he would of known he was safe and loved. You made him happy. Cats are exceptional. I had one that was a neighbours and she left her outside in all weathers. I took her in when they left her behind, she was 23 when she died. We had her for many years.Tim was only 12 with a tumor but he was so independent and wise. He would bring home dead stiff pigeons which looked like solid skittles and I knew he had found them and not killed them. He brought home a large flat fish and I was sweating he'd pinched the neighbours tea 😰 So many good memories and shared love. We have been fortunate 💜
I was definitely NOT a cat person until I met my husband..he brought his rescued cat to my house...at first, he (the 🐱) and I just ignored each other. Until one night when we had gone to bed, I felt something creeping up between my husband and I. It was that damn cat...lol. He creeped up real slow, got right up to my face and head bumped me...that was it, we were best friends until the end. 💕😇

When we were at the shelter, we were looking in the back room (where the less friendly/less healthy cats were held) and we came across this huge mountain of fluff. We peeked in and said hello, and behind all of that chub was a little head that looked over a fat shoulder, and let out the sweetest beep. My gf and I knew instantly that we had to have her; Porthos has been with us for 2 years now, and she's lost 12 pounds!

I'm a guy and had to hold the tears back. Looks like my Latte. Same colour. Our neighbour's cat gave birth to him under our house. He always came to us because he hated his owners. He adopted our family and cried when the neighbour locked him up next door. One day the neighbour came around and offered him to us. Of course, we said "yes".

Absolutely beautiful! Hard to walk away when a little one takes to you like that. When I went to adopt a cat many years ago, there were dozens in the kitten room. I walked up to the glass and my beautiful little Sidney was running around playing with all the other kittens. Suddenly he stopped and looked at me...and I looked at him. We just stared at each other. It was like something out of a movie. There were younger, much cuter kittens available, but that didn't matter to me. Sidney was my cat, and I was his person. I still miss my little buddy so much after all these years.

I truly believe that pets like cat's and dog's come into our life for a reason. We adopt them thinking we are saving their life but really they are saving us. My stray dog Max came into to my life and has been a blessing for me.

I adopted a kitten from a shelter years ago. The kittens were 2 to a cage and all were scared and hiding except for the black one meowing and ready to jump out. I opened the door and she jumped on my shoulder and purred so loud I felt it in my feet. That was it, took her home.

Oh wow we had exactly the same except a him rather than a her. We went to the shelter and this one black kitten was climbing up the bars, reaching his paws out to us and meowing constantly. We've had him for 8 years now.

I've learned that the bond between a Human and an Animal is a beautifull powerful thing that will last for eternity, even long after death. I still love my Grandmother's German Shepherd Chow-chow mix Dixie, even though she left us a decade ago now. And I know she still loves me too. And I can still see her face every time I look at a cat or dog. And I can still hear her voice. And I can still feel her fluffy warmth. I'll always love animals with all my mind, body, heart, soul, and spirit. Just like Dixie.
