    I know this is an oldish video however I love the simplicity of it and the background sounds of the creek and you poking and scraping and genuinely prospecting for gold.
    Great video Dan. Love your work in sharing your adventures. You have a good heart....... well now at least. Cheers from Victoria Australia

    Thanks for all the informative videos, Dan. I live in Maine, and there is a lot of gold here. Sadly most of it is on land they do not allow basic panning on. Your tips help me a lot on the accessible and heavily hunted areas I can go for gold! Thanks for everything and have a great school year!

    This is the first video of your I've seen, thank you for this. I have to blast some of the other channels which amount to self gratifying videos presenting and bragging about the rich soil they are fortunate to live near. You actually taught me something useful I can apply anywhere, thank you.

    I have used a dollar store turkey baster to suck out of the cracks. I have also added aquarium tubing to the end of one to extend the tip deep into cracks. A bit more cumbersome that a snuffer bottle, but works well. Also you can cut the tip off to classify the largest material that will pass. Not fancy, but if it works....

    Thanks for the tips brother. I've started to go out panning now. Twice. Maybe a total of five hours. (I'm Disabled) Plenty of creeks around me to have fun in and one major river that by summer I should be able to check out.(Washington state rains have it raging right now) I have found about ten very tiny specks. Exciting none the less. Now with a bit more info on creeks I hope to continue bettering it everytime. I am finding what I think are garnets as well. Alot in fact! Are they worth the time? The biggest one I found was about the size of.... the head of a ballpoint pen. Thanks for the videos.

    thats the only crack ill ever be addicted to lol, thanks for the public service you provide for us, it truly is worth gold to us! Ive seen your gold mining course series and learned quite a bit but I dont recall seeing a topic on flood layers\gravel layers, where the gold sits , what layers are generally a waste of time as well as which layers contain the best pay dirt and what composition of gravel to look out for. personally I have been experimenting with them but im trying to learn more. would you happen to have any info on that topic? Thanks brother!

  • @RealLuckless

    If you're breaking rock chunks away, at what point does it technically become hard rock mining? If you have a placer claim, how far are you legally allowed to push things before you're infringing on the mineral claim in that area?

    • @auyeah7842
      @auyeah7842 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No. Loose sand and gravel (placer mining) gets stuck in cracks which you are allowed to mine for. He is not crushing rock to extract gold (hard rock mining).

    Hello Dan. Love your videos. Inspiring me to do it myself. I live in Ohio and was curious if it's possible to go to local parks with rivers and creeks etc and would have any chance to find gold? I'd assume it's probably *possible* to find gold anywhere, but is there anything distinctive to look for that would indicate there could possibly be gold? I feel like I'm going out completely blind and just kind of guessing. I hear you talking about claims a lot. I live by a lot of quarries but more like limestone quarries. Could those possibly contain gold flakes? I feel confident in being able to read a river, but how do I know i even have a chance? Or is there really nothing, and just luck? If you find gold, you found gold and keep going? If not - search a little more just to be sure, then move on? I just don't want to spend hours and hours just to eventually find out I actually had no chance lol. Thank you

    • @GreatGig
      @GreatGig 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      TL;DR - I feel OK about reading a river, but not sure where to start. If not working on a claim, are you basically choosing rivers/creeks at random?

    Thanks for the video. My dad talked me into looking for gold in his creek. A few years ago he had a ton of bedrock wash down onto his portion of the creek. Lots of sand and small rocks. Anyways I dug into the sand a few feet and I found nothing but very small gold flakes. Does that mean I just dig deeper or try a different spot. I caught the fever!!
