Just what I was looking for, cheers for that, the neck mount that is
I’ve been really pleased with this neck mount. Works great for POV footage.
hello! loved this video I used your settings when I first used my dji action 4. just wanted to ask you on what platform did you edit this video and what is your render settings. my 1080p is miles away from your 1080p in terms of resolution mine when i uploaded it on youtube it became so pixelated.
Hey I am looking forward to use this mount in a trip while riding a scooter. I was wondering if I will capture more of a cinematic effect by combining 1/50 FIXED shutter speed with 25 fps and FIXED 100 iso and stabilization OFF. Maybe having stabilization off will make it more immersive and using this shutter speed will make me look like I am going faster ? (YES there will be tunnels but I might just crop that part off the compilation)
The shutter speed will definitely make it look faster with lots of motion blur. If you wanted to keep stabilization on I’d recommend testing out 60fps combined with a shutter speed of 1/240 beforehand to see if you like that combo. Should still have plenty of motion blur while still giving you the benefit of stabilization.
@@GreatDayForAHike thanks for the reply. Will try and come back with a response.
Hi mate! Great video.
Have you compared handlebar camera mount vs neck mount? Looking for shooting bike rides and so on.
Thanks.
my phone (Huawei P20 Pro) screen is rotating 180degrees and back when using the Mimo app and driving over bumpy roads or pottholes. Dji told me something about UI.
I will try your settings on my next bicycle trip.
Thanks for the video 👌
You’re welcome and thank you for your feedback.
When I set the white balance, I first select Auto and aim the camera in the direction I will be recording. This way the sensor gets a pretty accurate meter reading of the light conditions. I then select manual and that locks the K value whilst I am filming and wont change.
Thanks for sharing this tip. That is also an option for setting a static white balance.
I’ve implemented all of these settings. However, the low light image enhancement is no longer selectable. Is there a time where I would need that and what is the major setting that is turning it off.
Thank you for another great tutorial!!! I also love riding my ebike. I have a RadRover5 by Rad Power Bikes here in Washington State. BTW, what did you use as the wireless microphone? Thanks!
Thanks! Yes, e-bikes are a lot of fun and Washington state is a beautiful place. I used the DJI Mic (version 1) for this video.
Thank you! @@GreatDayForAHike
Do you have a link to color grading your, I always enjoy your videos you do a great!
Thank you, I appreciate it. Yes, this video shows how I color grade Osmo Action 4 footage: th-cam.com/video/FcQiSIwsZ34/w-d-xo.htmlsi=TVC8xd8MGqfZmeOb
The thing I’ve noticed with the DJI Action 4 is that it relies heavily on the shutter in order to stabilize the footage. If you’re using the 180 rule it can have a negative impact on stabilization. Iv’e added motion blur in post with DaVinci resolve and it’s quite good.
Yes, very much so. This is part of the reason I set the minimum shutter speed to 1/200 because if the shutter goes any slower than 1/200 with RockSteady on the ghosting and jitter can get bad. Adding motion blur in post is a great technique.
all digital stabilization uses high shutter speeds to accomplish this so you'll see the same issue stabilizing footage with GoPro, Insta360 etc. in order to follow the 180 rule you must have mechanical stabilization such as that found on a drone or a gimbal with a camera (ie. DJI Pocket 3, Osmo for smartphones, or large gimbals for mirrorless cameras.)
Absolutely. EIS is okay until the shutter speed gets too slow, then it’s basically useless. Love mechanical stabilization.
Thank you so much.. Planning on riding this weekend and recording it.. I'm not sure where to post it but would like some feedback if possible. This is my first action cam and just want good footage.
You’re welcome. If you feel comfortable sharing your video on TH-cam and linking to it for feedback, feel free to.

Do you think a chest strap is equally as good? Great video by the way - thank you!
Yes, in general it will do just as well and in specific situations such as intense mountain biking the chest strap will likely do even better.
How about settings for night ride?
Is this recommended for dirt bike riding on mountain trails?
If not, what do you recommend?
The settings should work well for dirt bike riding but for mounting the camera for that scenario I recommend a chest mount.
@@GreatDayForAHike what’s a good chest mount for this dji action 4?
Will this also work for high speed mountain biking? I’ve noticed the strange jitter in another video at 4k30 @1/60 with rocksteady on. How would this compare with 4k60 @1/120 with rocksteady?
Yes, these settings should work. My recommendation for preventing jitter is to set the shutter speed range to 1/200 to 1/8000. RockSteady needs a certain shutter speed to work properly.
just saw where the latest update addressed this supposedly. interested to see how that turns out. wanting to pull the trigger on this cam and that may have done it if its effective
@@GreatDayForAHike
@brianfentress4739 Yes that latest firmware update stated it should help with this.
Hi, I bought OA4.
I ride a quad bike, mainly on gravel roads - open areas with a lot of light and forests with a lot of trees.
The camera position is at the chin of the helmet, it sees the route + handlebars, counter, etc. I'm looking for the best possible settings for myself, do you think yours will be good for me? Lots of analogies, only the speed at which I'm driving will be different, maybe you can give me some advice :)
Yes, these settings should apply well for your riding situation.
@@GreatDayForAHike I'm only worried about setting the colors manually, I've never done it, is it a difficult process?
i ride dirt bikes. Mainly Hare scrambles. In the woods and open areas. I have been using, 4k30fps, RS, pov=wide, color =normal( i don't color grade). Exp=auto- shutter 1/400--8000, iso 100-1600, ev 0.0 , wb at 5500 ,sharpness -1 noise reduction 0. low light set on auto, Going to try settings in this video to see the difference. th-cam.com/video/MXsWXpiePWc/w-d-xo.html
@Itsjondillon Thanks for sharing.
Whats better ulansi vs TELESIN neck mount?
I have not tested the Telesin mount but I have been very happy with the Ulanzi mount.
Waiting for best settings for walking. For photographers, tourists etc.👍
Are you looking for best vlogging settings, essentially? If so, I am working on that.
I also would love to see you do a long walking tour and your recommended settings. Immersive POV like your bike ride rather than vlog, although you are great at talking so a narrated POV would be the best! Your approach with this bike ride was perfect! For a high density location I'd love to see you tour Colonial Williamsburg! And in the same trip you can film a bike ride to Jamestown. :)
The neck mount is the best option compared with the chest mount which is inconvenient and lower the camera height, I made a review about it on my channel
Yes, the next mount is great and I’ve really liked it. Glad you were able to do a review of it and get the word out about this great mounting option.
Where is the link for the full bike ride?
Check it out here: th-cam.com/video/_1u2zOYxxwo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=nm4VthQW-Nnqp3l3
good video but i guess with the neck mount the camera will smash my teeth out when riding the trails and jumps
Yeah if you’re mountain biking I wouldn’t recommend a neck mount for jumps.
100 degrees Celsius is pretty hot, how did you not die? Was the water boiling?
Hey, who said Celsius? I said 100 degrees. I did not say F or C 😂
@@GreatDayForAHike Yes, the metric system's Celsius scale is widely used for temperature measurement in most parts of the world outside of the United States, where Fahrenheit is more commonly used.
Understanding the Fahrenheit scale can be challenging for some because its reference points, like water freezing at 32°F and boiling at 212°F, might seem less intuitive compared to the Celsius scale, where water freezes at 0°C and boils at 100°C. Much easier to understand.
That mount is only practical for people who go for “bike rides”. Such as yourself in the video. But not for any performance Cycling.
Correct, that is the best use case.
Footage???
Yes, there are sample clips throughout this video and if you’d like to see more footage filmed with this camera, these settings, and this mount I have provided the full, unedited footage here from this bike ride: th-cam.com/video/_1u2zOYxxwo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=ep0ynToOAqqoWhec
