    Great video! One question. I'm arriving at Athens airport very late at night. After 11:00 pm (23:00) . Does FreeNow and Uber operate taxis very late at Athens Airport? Will there be a longer wait for one of their cars because it may be past midnight?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you very much for your kindness!
      Yes, taxis are available 24/7 in Greece, but do keep in mind that there’s an extra charge during nighttime, typically between midnight (00:00) and 5:00 AM.
      For convenience, I’d recommend using the 'FreeNow' app. It's widely used here in Greece, and it allows you to choose your specific pickup location at the Athens airport-either 'Arrivals - Exit 1' or 'Arrivals - Exit 5.' Uber doesn’t offer this level of detail, so 'FreeNow' is probably the easier option for your airport pickup.
      With the app, you can also book your taxi in advance for your preferred time. This way, after you land, you can schedule it to arrive right as you're ready to leave the terminal. Although taxis usually arrive within 1 or 2 minutes, booking ahead can give you peace of mind. Just adjust the arrival time based on how long you think you’ll need to get through the airport.
      Hope that helps, and safe travels!
      Please, let me know if there is something else that you would like to know!

    Hi Elena! I have another quick question. How early do taxis run when using the Free Now app? I need to head to the airport very early on my day of departure from Athens, and was wondering how early can one catch a ride using the Free Now app?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi! I am not sure I got your question right!
      Do you mean if the service is 24/7? Yes, there are always taxis available. Less taxis during the night but still there are available.
      Or do you mean how much time it takes for the taxi to arrive? Anytime I have used it in the city centre it takes more or less 5 minutes for a taxi to reach me. I haven't used it though very early in the morning as you say, so in your case is better to allow some more time, just to be on the safe side! It is better to wait a little longer in the airport than to miss your flight (I hope not)!
      Let me know if I answered your question!

    Hello Elena thank you for the information. Is there a suburban train alternative?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  28 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hello! Thank you for your kind words!
      Yes, the suburban train is available from Athens Airport, but it's generally more convenient if you're heading to the northern suburbs or Piraeus port. If your accommodation is in the city center, near Syntagma or Monastiraki, the Metro (Line 3) is a better option as it directly connects to these areas.
      If you are staying near Athens Central Station (Larissa Station), the suburban train could be a convenient choice, but keep in mind that the Metro also serves this station.
      Additionally, the suburban train runs every hour, while the Metro runs every 30 minutes, making the Metro a more frequent and faster option.
      If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

    Thank you for the video how , much metro ticket for seniors from Athens airport to city centre?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you for your kind words! For seniors (above 65 y.o.) the prices, as of now, are:
      Express Airport 2.70€ per person for one route
      Airport to City Metro 4.50€ per person valid for 90 minutes.
      These tickets cannot be issued through the automatic machines, but there are cashiers nearby who can assist you with purchasing tickets for both buses and the metro. They may ask for some form of identification and will provide you with a personalized, rechargeable card with your name on it. This card can be conveniently recharged at any cashier in the metro stations.
      If there's anything else you'd like to know or if you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm here to help!

    @ElenaGreekLife Also....how early does the metro starts working in the morning? I looked it up on Google and it said 5 am, however, when I tested it this morning around 5 am using Google maps, it said that the first metro that I needed to take was scheduled for 7:30 am, which made no sense to me. Are you able to shed some light on that?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Check this link: www.stasy.gr/en/timetables/line-3/#anaxwriseis
      It says that the airport metro passes through these metro stations:
      Monastiraki Metro station at 5:51
      Syntagma Metro station at 5:53
      Evangelismos Metro station at 5:55.
      (Those are the closest metro stations to the Acropolis)
      Note that the Airport Service is blue line. The Acropolis metro station is red line though, so you have to do connection. You said that you are one stop away from the Acropolis but if you are not at any of these stations, perhaps you need to reach first any of these 3 stations and from there to take the airport service metro.
      I don't know though why the google maps says 7:30, it doesn't make sence.
      In case Metro is not convenient for you there is also bus service 24/7 and the bus stop is right outside the Parliament in Syntagma square. The bus line is X95.
      Check this video for more information: th-cam.com/video/BKl-lGn6G5o/w-d-xo.html
      The exact timings for the bus airport service can be found here(every 15 to 20 minutes): www.athensairportbus.com/en/timetable/x95athenstoathensairport.html
      It might be more convenient this way if you can reach Syntagma Square. Also, it is cheaper 5,50€.
      Let me know if the links are clickable! If there is anything else let me know!
      Have fun!

      Thank you for all of the information! And yes, I had to switch lines when coming from the Athens Airport to the Airbnb. Took metro 3 once at the Athens Airport, got off in Syntagma, and from there I had to switch to the metro going in the direction to Syngrow Fix and get off at that stop, then walk 10 minutes to the airbnb from there.
      Yes, I'm not sure either why Google maps was showing 7:30 am being the earliest that metros start operating. In any event, all of the links were clickable! Thank you for that information! And I think I will just use the Free Now app instead. It has been one long vacation and with this heat I am just exhausted and have no desire to deal with any more metros or anything of the sort, especially when having a carry-on luggage that I am having to haul around. Thank you so much for all of the information! 🙂 very helpful! 🙂

      You are absolutely right, I have also noticed. My newest videos are better! I am noting a few important keypoints of the video so you don't miss out:
      -Information about bus service:
      Bus line is X95 and pick up location is between the arrivals exit gates No4 and No5.
      The cost is 5.50€ and you can pay by card or cash.
      The frequency is every 15 - 20 minutes and is 24/7 service.
      When there is no traffic it reaches the city centre in 50 minutes, but during peak hours it takes 1,5 hour.
      -Information about metro service:
      You can reach the metro terminal in 5-10 minutes walking distance from the arrival hall. It is located just opposite of the arrival exit gates.
      The cost is 9€ one way ticket, or 16€ return ticket which is valid for 30 days.
      The frequency is every 30 minutes and the last train leaves around 23:30 from the airport (link in the description of the official metro website and the timings).
      No metro service through the night (23:34 - 06:10 as of now), but there is bus service available at this time.
      It reaches in 40 minutes the city centre.
      Be vigilant about pick pockets.
      -Information about taxi service:
      The cost is around 50€ per taxi.
      The pick up location of the taxis are right between arrivals exit gate 2 and 3.
      If you want to avoid taxi drivers that overcharge you can either:
      book your taxi through 'Uber' & 'FreeNow' app
      or book a taxi service even before you fly and the taxi driver waits for you, with your name in the arrival gate.
      More information on that, you can find in the description.
      If there is anything else that you would like to know, feel free to ask! And thank you for taking the time to give me the feedback about the speaking, it makes me better! Have a good day!

      Thank you for your kind words! I just did a 'test' booking on FreeNow app where I set as my pick up location 'Athens Airport' and drop off location any random hotel in Athens city centre. I didn't confirm the booking, but still, it shows the available taxis and there were available around 20 different taxis that can reach in 1 min, so I guess there will be no problem to book it when you land in Athens (also there is free Wifi at the airport). You could try this 'test' booking also so you will see that there are always availble taxis for pick up at the airport. Also, this app allows prebooking for 4 days in advance. I haven't really checked Uber though because mostly we use FreeNow app!

    Hello, if I am looking to get an Uber, is there an assigned area in the airport where one needs to stand at when using Uber? I am trying to steer clear from taxis as I keep hearing that there have been increasing situations where the taxi driver ends up charing more to the cuatomer than the price agreed upon

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, when you book your taxi on the 'FreeNow' app, you can choose your pick up location between 'Athens airport arrivals - exit 1' or 'Athens airport arrivals- exit 5'. Then the app sends you the plate information of the booked taxi (it is an actual yellow taxi because in Greece it is not allowed private cars to trasport passengers like in other countries). The rate is set by the app and paid through the app if you choose to pay by card.
      For Uber, when you choose pick up location it is only 'Athens Airport' and there is no extra information about the Gate exit.
      I would suggest you to use the 'FreeNow' app where you have the option to choose the Gate exit and actually this app is mostly used around here. If you use this one, it is better to download it before you land, because they will ask you for your card info and better not to do that in a crowded airport. It will be easier for you to have the App set up already and then when you land just do the booking.
      By the way, the line for the taxis is in between Gates 3 and 4 in the arrivals area which is a little bit further than both the pick up locations.
      I hope my answer is clear and helped you! If there is anything else that you would like to know, feel free to ask! Enjoy Greece!

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@ElenaGreekLife Thank you so much for the comprehensive explanation! So just to make sure, if i choose to use the 'FreeNow' app, I can choose my pick-up location between 'Athens airport arrivals - exit 1' or 'Athens airport arrivals- exit 5', correct?

    • @ElenaGreekLife
      @ElenaGreekLife  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SacredQueen Thank you so much for your kind words! Yes, correct. Through 'FreeNow' app, you can choose your pick-up location between Athens airport arrivals - exit 1' or 'Athens airport arrivals- exit 5'.
      If I may suggest, you could do a 'test' booking. What I mean by 'test' is do the process of booking your taxi, but DON'T press 'Confirm Taxi' so you don't get charged.
      In this way, you can see the two available different options on the airport pick up location! But, again, DON'T press 'Confirm Taxi'!

    Hi! Yes, what I meant is if they operate 24-7 😊. I went to the Acropolis today and tested it very early in the morning at 4am, and it showed that there were quite a few vehicles available within 4 to 5 minutes away from my current location (Airbnb). Then I used to Free Now app to test it, and I had that taxi take me to the Acropolis. I also asked the driver of that FreeNow taxi if they operate 24-7 and he said yes, only think is that between 12 am and 5 am they charge a bit more, but other than that he said that they are available 24-7.
    The reason why I asked is because the main Airbnb where I have been staying at here in Athens is just 1 metro stop away from the Acropolis and all of the areas I wanted to visit. Which from here to the airport via car is 30 minutes, and via metro is about an hour. So I just wanted to ensure that using the FreeNow option, there are rides available 24-7 so I can prepare in advance. 😊
