Even though this movie IS awful, I’ve kinda learned to give it SOME credit in my older years. The production/set design for Dinohattan is kinda interesting (in a dystopian Blade Runner kind of way) and considering the plot for the Mario series gives you very little context to WHY anything is the way it is, I’ve always been kinda impressed that they managed to turn that into this.

I think one aspect of trying to jam in something from the games that they (and in fairness a lot of reviewers) overlooked was how they tried to adapt fire-flowers instead making fire-spewing guns that seem to just either shoot a small burst of flames or shoot straight up fireballs. Also it's what Koopa tries to use to kill the Mario Bros. in the final battle so I guess it's another way of trying to make up for the lack of Koopa not shooting flames from his mouth I guess.

While not produced by them(It's actually indie movie as it was produced by inidpenent filmmakers) Dinsey bought the distribution rights to the film, in hopes that they could get the theme park rights to Mario. However after watching the rough cut of the film, they decided to realses under their" Hollywood pictures " name, which was bascaily Touchstones sister branch, generally for movies they don't want ANYONE know they had any involvement. Either because they didn't want parents/ critics to possibly tarnish a film (for example The Sixth Sense, The Scarlet Letter, Arachnophobia and The first Puppet masters were released under Hollywood pictures) but more often then not were movies they were too embarrassed to admit they had any involvement in(Such as The Ernest movies, Jack, Spy Hard,or Biodome)
Bio-Dome was released by MGM. In the Army Now and Encino Man were released by Hollywood Pictures.
You lost me at fun fact.
To this day I'm still proud of myself for not wanting to see this when I was young. Even at age 11 I knew this was gonna be some bullsh*t.
Same. I wanted to see Jurassic Park and Last Action Hero as a kid that late summer/fall
You gotta remember. Every group ages into adults who crave nostalgia. Korey and Martin hated it then like they do now, but a lot of kids loved it back then and they loved it enough to create a Fandom. Thats all "cult status" is.
Dennis Hopper’s comments on this film were hilarious.
This movie confused me as a kid but I still rewatched it a couple of times.
Same. But I re watched it to see wtf happened lol still have no idea
Same! I feel like there should of been a sequel to this movie lol
I liked it but never understood anything about it
I'll never understand why this movie is a cult classic. I kinda liked it as a kid (keywords: as a kid), but even then, I knew that this movie has nothing to do with the video games.
This is one of Andre aka black nerd favorite movies
So what's it like to write Batman?
Grant Morrison: 10:50-11:45
Or just DC as a whole
This movies so bad, both Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo had to get drunk while filming JUST to finish this trainwreck!
Is that a true story?
@@SupportGamin2024 Sure is.
I remember reading an article on it.
Can you blame them?
@@noahwinns-cromer6914 I don't blame them..honestly
After hearing how messy the production was, I'd be drinking too if I were them.
Ohmygoddddddd YES!!!!! This is probably going to be one of the greatest moments of my life 😂
Put this movie on Disney plus Disney, you cowards!
(Yes this is a Disney movie )
@@notchuckproductions5029 No way, this was a Disney film??? You know how many times I watched this growing up not know this!? 😭😭
@@tajcee The studio behind it was Hollywood Pictures, which was owned by Disney. So yeah, the Super Mario Bros movie is a Disney movie.
@@michaelstrong5383 What were the execs at Disney smoking back then? Lol the 90s. What a strange time
Repost from the comments

This movie has way more in common with Duke Nukem 3D than Super Mario Bros. In some crazy way though, as a kid, I loved it. This review was priceless.
Dang Korey can even make an ad reading entertaining
11:37... This sh*t had me dying. Lmfao
less than a month from now, the redemption is upon us
Even though this movie IS awful, I’ve kinda learned to give it SOME credit in my older years. The production/set design for Dinohattan is kinda interesting (in a dystopian Blade Runner kind of way) and considering the plot for the Mario series gives you very little context to WHY anything is the way it is, I’ve always been kinda impressed that they managed to turn that into this.
27:00 If Dashie was there, he would have said, "PAUSE!"
Y’all are the best thing the internet has going for it! 🤣 I don’t know how I went so many years with no idea this show existed!
Found it last year at the beginning of quarantine and was sooooo happy lol
Bowser is a turtle, even as a kid i didnt understand why they had him as a dinosaur
When i seen Face/Off in theater, as soon as I seen the prison boots i thought "what the fuck?!, they're wearing the boots from the Mario bros movie!". Sometimes they re-purpose props in movies, they could very well be the same props.
You guys made my entire week! This was one of the movies I was most anticipating you guys doing!! Stellar stuff! Thank you so much.
"I'm home, I'm high..." ok, that Jackie Brown reference outta nowhere legit made my night!
BTW, if you think THIS is bad the House of the Dead movie (and DOA has one too I think, haven't seen it though) not to mention Street Fighter are at least just as bad as this. I would dig a roast (toast?) from yall with those especially since there's already reviews of MK Annihilation and Double Dragon. They'd definitely have Billy laughing like crazy for sure too...
Damn this movie takes me back! This took me back to when my house was the most popular crib in the hood cause my pop had a hookup and was able to score our family a chip box (illegal cable box) and this is one of those films I remember watching free on PayPer view🙌🏽
42:27 I nearly choked on my coffee at this part 😂😂😂 You guys are hilarious & epic!
Now do "Street Fighter The Movie" with Van Damm and Raul Julia.
Raul Julia single handedly makes that film watchable.
The Guardian article:

Thank you. I needed this. Pure fun
I appreciate it now for its aesthetic and trippiness factor.
Why Korey sounded like Oswald Bates from In Living Color around 11:46 ? 😂🤣😂🤣😂
39:11 live action Yoshi looks more like Baby T-Rex 🦖 from Crash Bandicoot Warped or Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled
I ain't gon lie I wanted those shoes when I was younger 😂
This movie was really wild lmao 😂😵, especially hearing about what the actors had to go through.
The movie came out when I was a young kid. I remember being so hyped up but never got to see it. I finally got to see it in my teens and I was greatly disappointed.
There's A sequel comic made by one of the writers of the movie, although it hasn't been finished since 2015.
I vaguely remembered that comic. I always thought it was a fan-made interpretation of a sequel, this is the first time reading it was actually the writer. Its been over a decade since I last seen it, maybe I might find it again and what little updates they published before 2015.
I look forward to the day this comes to Disney+...
Wait... Disney?
@@hectormanuel8360 Yeah. Super Mario Bros.: The Motion Picture was released by Hollywood Pictures, which is a defunct subsidiary of Walt Disney Pictures. So yeah, Super Mario Bros.: The Motion Picture is technically a Disney movie.
@@DeeZKnutz35 Shit, it is distributed by buena vista pictures!
I love this movie! The concept alone rocks my shit! Beloved video game adored by all ages! Let's give it a Dark- Dystopian Croenburg meets Blade Runner aesthetic!
Ah, Big Bertha, the giant fish black woman.
I could imagine the people at Nintendo losing their minds after seeing this movie.
Yep beloved fan right here
Watched it as a kid still love it
Not saying it’s good but it’s a childhood staple for me
Same, this is legit one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time. Is it a good MARIO BROS movie? No. But it's a really fun fantasy movie with great sets and special effects that still hold up today. I love it.
I'm not sure why but the "Time Squared" bit from korey killed me LOL 😂
Facts lmao
The max headroom movie was 1st to introduce his video show them he blew up and started doing all the commercials
The first thing they got wrong was confusing the Koopas with dinosaurs... They're turtles, g'dammit! The only dinosaur is Yoshi.
29:20
Yes Martin, she is....... She’s a FISH
Mario's girlfriend in this was named Daniella, what they don't tell you is her middle name which is Pauline(the Donkey Kong chick)
This video review had me cracking up laughing on my lunch break. Thank you. I need that.
Nobody said Brooklyn 65 million years ago! Lol Korey said there's people in psych wards talking that shit. I lost it!!!
When Billy around I really enjoy DT much better 💯🤣🤣😄 his laugh makes it more funnier
When i seen that thumbnail I immediately thought Mario mario and Luigi mario
If you watched the movie then you know the scene I'm talking about 🤣
Didn't John Leguizamo do a lot of drag back in the 90's? To Wong Fu... and his standup? But maybe actually kissing Tom Hanks was a bridge too far
Oh thank Gáuts! I was worried you wouldn't upload this today XD
