      Molly, you're so gorgeous. Thank you for your time. I don't know if it's a cultural thing in the states, but i'm so disappointed to hear of the absolutely unnecessary challenges you have had, purely from other people's mis- or lack of education and empathy. My dad is quadriplegic, and although life is challenging for him for many reasons, I can honestly say generally people have been pretty amazing. Kids come up to him all the time and ask to ride on his wheelchair and he loves chatting to them and teaching them about it. Because this has just been part of my life, i'm still dumbfounded when people go back to the conversation of 'people with disabilities are just like "us" ', because in my mind - of course we're all people - there's absolutely no reason for this to not be the case. Growing up I had a friend in my class who had brain surgery at a young age which severely affected his abilities, a friend with hearing aids, a friend with cerebral palsy - it's just part and parcel of life, and i'm so sorry each time I hear that's not everyone's experience. Thank you for dedicating so much time to educating others - but also, thank you for sharing your incredible talents as well, so people know you are more than just someone with a vision impairment, but an incredible, successful woman - who just happens to have a visual impairment. You're amazing.

    When Molly started talking about how everyone’s pain is valid and we shouldn’t compare our hardships. That really got to me. I’ve struggled with my mental health since I was a kid and no one really knew. When I opened up about it, a lot of people invalidated me and said it could be worse because mine was “mild”. All because they couldn’t see my internal struggles or weren’t there for the hard times. Thank you for this episode, keep doing amazing things. 💕

    When they were talking about the importance of disabled people playing disabled characters, it made me think of a beautiful short film I recently watched called “feeling through”. It was the story of a young homeless teen who runs into a a deaf and blind man on the street who needs help getting to the bus. The film stars the very first deafblind actor, and I couldn’t recommend it enough! It’s nominated for an Oscar too!
    Additionally there’s a “making of” behind the scenes documentary that’s squally worth watching.

    • @alexandran6009
      @alexandran6009 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I saw a new movie with madeline petsch where she plays a blind character and asks to touch a guy's face and I hear molly in my head going BLIND PEOPLE DON'T TOUCH FACES 😂😂 as a subscriber of Molly and having watched the majority of her videos I cringe so much at how blind people are potrayed in the media. I will definitely watch the movie you recommended!

    Molly reminds me of when a blind person and a paraplegic come to my elementary school when I was a kid. They talked openly about their experiences and took questions from the kids. It really helped us learn they were just like other people and we didn't need to be afraid to interact with them. :)

    I really thought she wasn't really blind because of her gestures, her eye movements, and how she carries/conducts herself, there was NO WAY she was actually blind 😱 but until this video is when I'm realizing she actually is. I never would have guessed if I had seen her anywhere else. She does it very well 😊

    • @lseh
      @lseh 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Not only did she have some eye sight when she was younger (so she has natural instincts) but she’s also has stage presence training through acting etc. She could play a very convincing sighted character, those directors really should give her a chance!! As a long time watcher of Molly, I will say this. Even I forget she is blind at times. Even her family forgets at times. In a recent video her mom asked if she can see her. When that is your life for so long you learn to adapt and what may seem strange or different for us is her normal. She can do makeup, she loves fashion, she can play sports, she can do things we wouldn't expect her too and it shows shes normal. I think it also has to do with stereotypes like she talked about. How in media blind are often portrayed with a cane, having the dark sunglasses, touching people's faces and when that is what you learn and expect then you don't see that, its a shock for people. It's one of the reasons I love her channel because I have learned so much and I get to spread that to other people.

    The great problem of disabled people is that people who are not disabled are very, very uninformed, and people are very poorly educated about it. Disabled people do not need anyone to feel sorry for them, they simply need to be considered and treated as one of the others. It is very important to learn and have information. It saddens me that Molly is afraid of being hurt when she goes alone without her guide dog in a taxi or on the street. It seems to me that people who try to hurt another when they know they are unequal is a disgusting attitude and all this happens because there is a lot of misinformation. I hope this podcast and Molly's testimony help others feel better and more understood.

    First, Thank You for everything Grayson. I wouldn’t be the person that I am today without you by my side. I don’t exactly remember what our first conversation was, but I do remember feeling like I was gaining a Friend for the rest of my Life.
    We might have grown up with complete opposite childhoods, but there’s a reason that Life brought us together. I believe that we have so many opposite personality traits because that’s part of what makes us work we’ll together. We lean on each other. You’ve accepted me for who I am, You laughed with me through the best and cried with me through the worst, and for that , I couldn’t be more grateful. Frankly, I couldn’t imagine having anyone else go through this crazy Life we Live with me, and I don’t do a good enough Job at expressing how thankful 🥲 I am for our Friendship. You need to know that without you, my Life would take a total 180.
    Thank You for being brutally honest, all of the time.

    Another important thing is representation for those of us who are disabled but our disability isn’t visible. Like if we chose to use a mobile cart because we have chronic fatigue and get dirty looks. Everything I do every day is impacted by Gastroparesis, PTSD, Anxiety...and the list goes on. But no one can see these illnesses which makes it even worse. People are less likely to believe you, that you have these illnesses because THEY can’t see it or don’t experience it. Struggling with an invisible illness is hell.

      A family friend has myasthenia gravis, when she was first having symptoms a lot of people including a boss treated her so badly because they thought she was on drugs. They even gossiped about it at work with other employees causing a lot of damage. She eventually left and never got an apology from them. Its so frustrating
