    I've been a gunsmith for over 40 years. I worked for the Browning distributor in NYC in the 80s. I got a chance to fully disassemble a Regent BR9 and I can say, without reservation that the Regent has better fit and finish than the Belgian FN manufacture had in the 80s. There are very minor differences in some detail, most notably, there is no extension on the chamber and corresponding recess in the breech face and the ramp is straight as opposed to the earlier two angle ramp. Also it has a one piece barrel where the classic Hi-power had a two piece (yes it did) barrel with the lower cam lug and rear outer portion of the chamber as a separate piece. I'll buy the first one I can get my hands on. Good review.

      @@eslamnoiem6642 Well, I bought one for myself and I am quite happy with it. It is VERY important to use good quality magazines with it and all other firearms. ACT and MECGAR are recommended. I had no failures with my pistol.

    I been waiting for this. I've emailed Tisas multiple times over the past few years as to whether this handgun would make it to the US, but no one could ever confirm yes or no.
    I'm glad they found a way to do so.
    Not too many handguns on my wish list anymore, but this is one I want to pick up for sure!

    I own a Hi-Power and have owned it since 1974. It is my favorite semi-auto range gun. Since it has been discontinued, I thought it may be best not to continue using it to shoot a lot of ammo through it. But I LOVE THE GUN! after watching many videos and checking many display models, yesterday I bought one of these Tisas clones, exactly as the one in the video. It will be my 9mm range gun as a surrogate for the Browning. I own several other 9mms for CC but none of them are as pleasant to shoot as the Browning. Because they are smaller and lighter (good for CC) they are a lot snappier to shoot. 9mm ammo is pretty cheap and it behooves one to have a 9mm "range gun", full size, full weight and very comfortable to shoot. The stainless model would be nice for CC, but the gun is too large and heavy for that, especially in the warm climate where I live. The blued model will be just fine for range use.
    The rowel (round) hammer is a biter! I changed the hammer on my Browning (keeping the original, rather than modifying it) for a regular spur hammer many years ago. At the time many gunsmiths were making a simple modification to the round spur hammer, but it was actually cheaper just to order a spur hammer and change it. I am told the Tisas will accept Browning parts, I will probably do the same change to the Tisas.
    I look forward to getting it to the range later this week.

    I’ve owned BHPs for years. It’s my favorite handgun. I just bought a stainless steel BR-9. I’m in hog heaven!!! I had two double feeds the first couple of mags, but nothing since. That was with PPU Ammo that had been lying around for quite some time. I then switched to MEN 124 gn FMJ NATO spec ammo, and fired 100 rounds without a bobble. The next day I fired 50 rounds of standard pressure Gold Dot 124 gn hollow points, with no malfunctions.
    I intend to replace the safety with a Cylinder & Slide extended safety. I replaced the grips with a set of Craig Spegel’s, I had on another Hi-Power. So far, loving this handgun.

      I agree whole heartedly. I have a Tisas 1911A1 Tanker model, and a Canik Mete SFT, and Canik TP9 Elite Combat. All 3 are excellent firearms. And honestly are hard to choose between the 3 as which I want to carry. Turkish firearms are really taking the American gun market by storm right now. Although I do wish that these imported Turkish firearms manufacturers had more 3rd party support for accessories and attachments. But beggars cant be choosers xD.

    I've got the carbon steel model - and it feeds Federal 124gr HST's wonderfully with both the provided Mec-Gar magazines & and is as least as accurate as any other full-size service 9mm I've ever shot. I'll probably put some new grips on it, fit an ambidextrous safety catch, and carry it extensively. Beautiful gun.

    I bought and own a Tisas BR9 Stainless, I love it! I bought it in 2019 and slide edges beside the feed ramp are factory milled so feed problems from earlier models are no longer there. I have fired a good variety of ammo with good results. I did have the extractor replaced as the original broke after about 1200 rounds. I am having the mag disconnect removed and a big safety switch added. I keep it as a car gun when I am not shooting it. By the way your video is great!

  • @jimpeel
    @jimpeel 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For those with large hands, try this. Hold the firearm as usual with your strong hand. With your off hand, grip around the fingers of the strong hand and with the thumb of the off hand wrap it over the thumb of your strong hand just behind the second joint (the first joint being the one closest to the end of the thumb). Pull down with the thumb of the off hand and you will find that the mechanical advantage, pulling down on the strong thumb, will increase your grip on the firearm without causing shaking. You will find that you will be able to completely relax your strong hand grip without losing grip strength, shaking, or losing accuracy. More importantly, this pulls the flesh of the strong thumb down and away from the hammer. Try it. You'll like it.

    I never owned a true Browning High Power but I did own a Hungarian made copy of it. It was the FEG PJK-9HP. I got it in the mid to late 80's. It was a great shooting gun but I had to have the trigger pin worked on because it would start working its way out after putting 2 to 3 magazines through it. I ended up trading it in on a Springfield 1911 in 9mm. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on this High Power clone.

    • @richardkluesek4301
      @richardkluesek4301 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Jon Haugen I had the same issue of trigger pin drift out to the left. KBI were of no help at all in addressing this issue, and insulted my common sense by insisting that the trigger spring holds the pin in place.. My gunsmith repaired the gun by making an oversized pin that snugly fit into the fame walls. I just gave him the gun for many great services rendered on other projects.

    They're gonna sell a TON of these! The "rowel" hammer was later replaced with an open ring hammer to eliminate hammer bite. If this is truly a "clone" you can easily interchange an open ring browning hammer for this. I have a Browning, but given what is happening to the prices of them, I may just retire it to the gun safe and get one of these for shooting and carry.

  • @richardkluesek4301

    Over the years I have had 4 HP s, a WW2 'Naszi' (made without the magazine disconnect, be careful, they had no concern for liability and safety) 2 Belgian 1970s vintage guns with spur hammers and external extractors and currently a ".40 cal frame" " Made in Portugal, Assembled in Belgium" 9mm. Cylinder&Slide offers aftermarket custom heavy duty extractors, wide triggers which do not accept the magazine disconnect parts, and a small round rowl hammer to prevent "'the bite"' you experienced. If anyone would take my advice and listen to my humble opinion I would respectfully offer the suggestion of a hammer made with a short spur and wide beavertail like that on the original M1911 Colts and 1914 Norwegian versions of same. With FN discontinuing the Browning Hi Power thought this was irrelevant, but maybe a Turkish engineer at Tisas will think of it. This would solve a 90 year old problem. And the magazines offered by MecGar with 15 round capacity are a superb update. Good shooting.

    I just purchased a used BR9 and I love it. It does have a great trigger job done too it, because I'm a competitive shooter. But , it's a blast to shoot and I have not had a single FTE,FTF or stovepipe. It will shoot whatever you feed it. Just keep it clean and it works flawlessly.

    Have two. A Novak Customized MkII and a mostly stock FM95. I have lighter pistols, as well as pistols that hold more rounds, but the BHP has a certain "feel" that I always come back to. Remember reading something Bill Laughridge said about keeping the Power Factor to 140, or less, for longevity of the older forged frames, the barrel cams, and slides.

  • @timnorris9000
    @timnorris9000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Graham, I have the SS version. Love it... Very tight as compared to my three FN Hi Powers and one FEG. Shoots equally as well. I have 786 rounds through it... the extractor broke at at round 361. I had a spare, replaced it and the extractor spring that night and was back at the range the next day for another 325 rounds. I would love to here about extended play with these guns. Some "detractors" suggest Tisas must use cheap MIM parts which will fail early... and then I break an extractor.
    Anyway, it's beautiful and shoots great, as well as my FNs. It is rather tightly put together, reap HPs rattle. Thusly, at this early point in it's life, my FM Detective slide and a .22 Caliber Conversion kit will not function with it. I imagine my other Hi Power slides will not function on the BR9. They are each otherwise interchangeable.
    Thanks for the video... I'll check out some of your other work!

    • @timnorris9000
      @timnorris9000 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'd guess parts break sometimes?
      In the month since I've posted, a couple of BHP custom shops have started looking at the BR9. C&S reported that some of the small parts are cast (not MIM) and wonder why Tisas didn't use the extended safety and slide release. And the dovetail for the sights isn't quite standard. Who knows? At $500-$600 it's pretty hard to beat for a new HP clone. I have added the SFS system (hammer down cocked and locked) and a better trigger to mine, and I did the same to two used real Hi Powers from 1981, one purchased before the BR9 and one after, which each cost $75 more than the BR9. Those two also got a complete spring and pin replacement. With no mods the BR9 looks, works and shoots great at a lower cost than even a bargain used FN.
      It's a great addition to my collection. In the end, I think it's gonna be a real winner.

    I've always been a fan of the all-steel, full -size, "Service 9's "
    The weight, bulk, or size doesn't bother me one bit. In fact, when I hear all the young folks moaning and groaning about "how heavy" or "how bulky" these old, Classic designs are, it makes me like 'em just that much more!
    If you don't have full CONFIDENCE in your weapon, AND in your ability to use it, well that's just one more issue you DO NOT want to be knawing at the back of your mind as you step into "Harms Way"!

    Certainly makes sense to clone a classic and sadly discontinued firearm. Better than another 1911 Clone. I have a Browning and an Argentine High Power. If limited to a 9 mm military handgun , this would be it. The stainless version is attractive but I would prefer all stainless parts except for sights , and an ambi safety option. Nice looking pistol for the money.

    You don't need to hold the slide back, when removing the slide lock/disassembly pin.
    There are two identical notches in the slide.
    Simply put the safety in the farthest forward one, and the slide is held back, so you can remove/replace the slide lock/disassembly pin.

    My Hi-Power had an absolutely exquisite blued finish. This one is nice though given the price. I bought it in stainless myself having always wanted an original in the satin finish. I will let you know once I fire it how it compares at the range. Never should have sold mine, now I can't find them anywhere except way overpriced online. Good review. Somebody asked about parts when it begins to wear out below. Just buy the original Hi-Power parts, they fit. You will want to get the original Browning drift pins however, I've been told by two owners they're much better than Tisas drift pins.

    Very glad Tisas is now making a very good looking High power clone. I have a Tisas 1911 Regent that runs like a champ w/fmj. Gonna have to get one of these! Also would like to know brand/model of your jacket. Want that too Lol! Thanks for the review!

    Couple of questions 1. What are the wipes you are using? 2. Do you reload? It would be cool to see you add them to your tests. As always love the Megadeth and good video.

      Remington Rem wips. I highly recommend them. Such an easy way to clean and lubricate and they don't just make everything slick like the Hoppe's wipes. I don't reload. the manufacturers don't want reloads used in their guns and it wouldn't do ya'll any good to see how a gun shoots with ammo you can't find.

    Well maybe you wouldn't get hammer bite if you didn't try to shoot with big meaty claws! That Browning was amazing. We are going to the Browning Museum in Ogden this spring.

      I freely admit that when this pistol was designed there likely weren't many people with hands my size. The Walther PPK/S is even worse in my hands.

      @@GBGuns I couldn't resist a Sponge Bob Spongebob reference. I shot a cheap alloy ppk copy once and it was awful. The recoil was sharp and the slide bite tore me up. It was one of those cases where I really liked it until I shot it.

    This gun seem to be as well built as a Hi-Power with the following exceptions: a: The slide serrations appear to be slightly slanted instead of being verticle. b: The rear sights appear to be Novak or Novak knock-off. I also noticed that when you field-stripped the pistol, you did not use the second notch. The magazine did not drop because the magazine safety prevents it from dropping. The magazines sold with the US Hi-Powers have a u-shaped spring near the bottom of the magazine to help the ejection of the magazine. If you remove the magazine safety, the European magazines would eject nicely.

    I see a little hammer bite in that intro. Typically with large hands. Very nice Hi Power reproduction.

      These later became the Brownell's model, and have since not been imported. This was before High Powers were cool again.

    the only gun I like better then my FN Browning is my TRP operator. Having said that, Gun show FEG's have been spotted recently and consistently in the 200-250 dollar bracket and shoot every bit as good as the Browning.... The only difference I can find is the FN is polished alittle prettier.

    Very nice! They make in stainless version as well. I can’t get over that hammer spur coming back and biting ya. Really seems like the beaver tail needs extending. They sell aftermarket stuff???

      Nick Navarre There are aftermarket hammers available. I think most parts are interchangeable with Browning parts.

      Glad to see the HP come back. They should have changed ergos a bit while they were at it. Too busy to make an exact copy. Hammer shapes can be changed. Look at the Lama 82 for a stub hammer not biting.
