- The brown-throated sloth is only found in Central and South America, and it's an animal I’m excited to study. So, I travel to Panama as a guest of Tranquilo Bay to see what I can learn.

ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
Tranquilo Bay
Tranquilo Bay is on Panama’s Caribbean coast. This secluded island is home to a whole host of wildlife and owner, Jim, is here to show me around.
Amazing climbers
Sloths are slow, but it’s amazing how fast they can climb a tree compared to humans. Despite having less muscle mass than similar mammals, their grip strength is double that of humans and I watch it hang upside down from branches high in the canopy by one arm while scratching and holding its baby.
The sloth's leafy diet
Sloths are folivores, feeding on a low energy diet of tough, rubbery leaves. They only eat a couple of handfuls a day, but this can take up to two weeks to digest in a multi-chambered stomach. They compensate for this poor diet with a slow-paced lifestyle, expending as little energy as possible. These creatures have been around for about 65 million years, so it’s clearly lifestyle that works.
Sloth & baby
Brown-throated sloths’ mate between January and March, and after a six-month gestation, females give birth to a single offspring. It’ll be cared for until it reaches independence at about six-months old. So, the young one I’m watching still has a bit of learning to do before then.
At a month-old baby sloths can hang with ease, using their long, curved claws. For efficient climbing, females need to keep their weight low, so they don’t store milk, instead producing it in small drops throughout the day, which the baby suckles. Mother and baby share a close bond and I see them touching noses and licking each other. The baby is also licking at any bits of leaf around its mother’s mouth. By tasting the food mum has eaten, it learns which trees to eat from.
Sloths & moths
Some sloths have a green tinge. It’s algae in their fur. It helps them stay camouflaged in the trees. But this isn’t the only benefit. Algae is rich in fats and nutrients, which are sorely lacking from their leafy diet. So, for the energy conscious sloth, the algae acts as a mobile larder. To promote algal growth, the sloth has developed a surprising relationship with an insect. Their fur is home to a unique species, the sloth moth, and some sloths carry more than a hundred in their fur! The more moths they have the more algae and nutrients they carry. And in return, the sloth helps the moth, making the dangerous journey down to the rainforest floor to defecate so the female moths can lay their eggs in their fresh dung. This incredible symbiosis is key to the sloths’ unique lifestyle.

this is what I was looking for friend thank you very much for doing such in detail intimate videos I learn alot from your channel❕🫶❕ from TEXAS
Thank you kindly🫵🤠👍
she came down to see you,...didn't poop how cool!
I somehow came across your video, I'm sure due to my love of Sloths. Your footage of these 2 gorgeous creatures is absolutely incredible! There are so few high quality videos of Sloths out there, it seems. I loved your genuine excitement and amazement of these wonderful animals. It's easy to see how much you enjoyed this experience. You weren't filming this just because. Not only do you capture amazing imagery and the Sloths in action, but you describe in detail what these 2 adorable Sloths are doing and what it means. This would be a wonderful video for kids, as well for a 40 something like me. Sorry for the long and rambling comment, but your video is really special. This really needs to have more views.
@@aaronnoel7859oh thanks for your kind words, and yes 🙌 I love sloths too and try to educate people about wildlife in a softer way as part of a story 😊
@@RobertEFuller your work is beyond amazing Friend! 👏From your artwork to your dedication to wildlife, few words can describe the creativity and passion that you bring to animals and their lives. Thank you for sharing your art with us.
This mini documentary was the best one I've ever seen with a mother sloth and her baby. You really captured some excellent moments of her tenderness towards her little one...amazing. Thank you Robert
The baby sloth was a real treat to capture on film! So glad you enjoyed the film.
I was about to say exactly the same thing! Superb film and I learned a lot that I didn't know before about these things unique creatures. Thanks Robert. The sunset shot was beautiful too 👍.
Oh thanks it’s a team effort with me and my mini crew of two
And everyone at Tranquilo Bay for making this possible
Go team Fuller, what an excellent job everyone did to capture the most intimate moments of this mother sloth and her baby...unforgettable.

Far and away the best footage of a baby sloth, and the interaction between a mother sloth and her baby, that I've ever seen!
Yes We we very lucky to capture such amazing footage
I find sloths to be mesmerizing. This video was outstanding. How can anyone resist those enchanting faces. Amazing animals❤
There is a great video of a guy handing a baby sloth to its mom after the baby fell. The mom reached back with her paw as if to thank the man. It was so moving to see.

Robert, this is absolutely fascinating!!!! They look like they have a forever smile!!!!❤❤
Thank you for the beautiful video of the sloths. The sight of the mother and baby sloth is heart warming!
I have a considerable amount of handicaps and financial difficulties so this is really the only way I can learn about animals like sloths and see how they live. As well as how all of the other animals live that you've shared with us. So thanks Robert E Fuller. You're truly a modern day hero to myself and people like me. For me though, about 7 years ago I stopped watching mainstream TV during my free time, and ever since I have spent most of it teaching myself about how many different animals live. This is evident to anyone who notices the ridiculous amount of playlists I have for many different animals. The sloth playlist I've made, of sloths in the wild, actually has over 300 videos at this point, lol. With there being so many videos of sloths out here, I eventually started making a separate playlist for sloths in zoos, and then one for sloths fighting. And even one for mating sloths. However, while other animals might have hundreds of videos of them mating out here, in 7 years I've only come across about 13 videos having to with sloths mating, and none of them really give any substantial information about it. Also, in 7 years I've only found maybe 2 or 3 videos that could be considered documentaries about sloths. I learned things about sloths from your twelve and a half minute video that I haven't learned even after watching hundreds of sloth videos out here for the past 7 years. There's this one sloth documentary though about a sloth that was orphaned and raised by a journalist who named it Velcro. And to my surprise, in the information about it, the journalist that had raised Velcro and eventually set it free in the wild, left this link I'm going to share, along with a warning about the Sloth Sanctuary down there. Now, I should warn anyone who plans to check out this link, that some viewers might find it difficult to watch... It's also why and video that I find out here that shows sloths at this place, I put in a separate sloth playlist that I call, "SLOTHS 🦥 (Sanctuary Prison 🏞🚧)." While I'm in no position to really do much about this, maybe some of you might be. And sorry for such a long comment. It's just that considering my conditions, this is the way that I can do something about it. Anyway, here is the link that I mentioned. Which is actually an article by, "The Dodo," who I've always found to be a pretty reputable source:

Glad you enjoyed my sloth mini film

Thank you 🙏 Awesome, wonderful 😊
What extraordinary & ancient creatures - long may they prosper 💚
Wow how beautiful to see the Momma with her baby. The baby imitating Mom at the end 😂
I know both scratching
Beautiful video 🥰😍
Sloths are such gentle souls. Enjoy coming along with you on your new adventure in Panama. Such a blessing to have this kind of programming available. Thank you for not showing their natural predators, like the Harpy Eagle. What I love about this channel is... . I always feel at peace after, not traumatized. Hurts my heart seeing them (animals) being attacked or killed by their predators. Seen enough of that to last me a lifetime. Well played, Mr. Fuller... Gratitude 🙏❤️✌️
Glad you enjoyed it Sloths 🦥 are amazing and it was so fantastic being in there presence
@@RobertEFullerMakes my day when you personally respond. I always show my family. Lol...But this morning? It went a bit differently...
Me: "Husband!? Omg, husband look!? Robert Fuller responded to my comment!"
Husband : That's wonderful babe. What he say?"
((daughter walks into dining room, rolls eyes))
Daughter : "Oh mom? It's not him, it's one of his administrators."
Me: "No! Look? It's Mr. Fuller!"
((daughter walks out))...
Me calling out..... "What's an administrator?"🤔
Either way? I love it. We love it! ❤
What an amazing adventure! I love your videos and this one is breathtaking! Thank you and safe journeys.
Thanks for watching glad you enjoyed Tranquilo Bay and it’s Sloths
The sight of them moving around in the beautiful nature was very soothing to me in the morning. But it moves well on trees. It was so cute to see the parent and child doing the same movements.
Absoutely spell binding! Such a beautiful animal and such a protective mother. Thank you for sharing!
65 million years! Wow thats amazing.
The baby sloth was adorable 🦥 the size of Robert’s hand awwwww. So weird and wonderful 🦥
Robert thank you so much for this amazing video!!! I have only watched one video before of a Sloth rescue that wondered out into the sea or was pulled there by the current and the rescuer brought it back to safe land and explained a little about their ways. But this video really starts to gets into their fascinating lifestyle! Slow and methodical is the best way I can describe them.

One of the most fascinating and vulnerable creatures I've seen. It's a tough life on sloths. But such is the way of predation in nature.
Great video, Robert. Thanks for your hard work in getting such footage.
Blessings to all.

My brother to day I miss your painting
Robert this was utterly Enchanting watching Mum and Baby going about what they do best .I have never really seen a Mum and Baby Sloth before,so it was just a real treat.I find these creatures amazing,a bit strange!but also endearing .With their sad but large brown eyes ,but having a fixes smile on their faces at the same time. How can you not love these lovely creatures?..They have not evolved much because their lifestyle is perfect for them,so nature has decided not to change or fix what’s already perfect. This was so enjoyable and uplifting and thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences when you go on your travels. This world and everything on it is beautiful and we really need to help it survive. Not just personally but the industries that are tearing down trees and not replacing them with new.And firms that pump wast into the air and into the ground and waters .It has to stop.Plastic has to be remade into other things in their own countries, that way it will be kept out of the seas.Man needs to be responsible for every living creature on this planet ,that walks, climbs ,swims, flies and creeps around in the soil.Because this Beautiful Earth is Ours and belongs to our future children, grandchildren. My years are numbered, but it sad to see what’s happened in my lifetime ..
You make SUPBERB wildlife videos… Love your photographic skills, educational comments and production…more foreign content is Welcome…You are Second to none!!❤️from Montreal
