ABOUT THIS FILM

Legendary harpy eagle
The harpy eagle is the national bird of Panama. Named after the harpies of Greek mythology, gruesome women with the bodies of birds, this gigantic eagle is the most powerful raptor on earth and its rear talons can measure 5 inches - bigger than a grizzly bears claws!
My guide, Eliecer takes me to a secret location, confident we’ll get some good sightings. But it’s gonna be quite a journey! From the camp, we travel 40 minutes by car and take a 15 minute canoe trip down the Chucunaque River. Then we set off through the pastures on horseback and walk through dense jungle to a lookout point.
Cupio trees
Eliecer, eventually pointed to a small gap in the tree canopy. And there it was. A huge nest, in the fork of a cuipo tree. Cuipo trees are the largest trees of this region and measure up to 200ft high, towering over the top of the rest of the canopy. Everything in this forest seemed super-sized, so when I spotted a female harpy eagle sitting inside the nest, it felt surreal.
The harpy eagle is so impressive it is revered across Central and South America. As I trained my lens on it, it gave a long whistle that rang out across the forest. Eliecer said the sound meant she was hungry and was calling for the male to bring food.
Glimpsing the chick
A small white head of a chick then appeared over the rim of the nest. The female leaned over it, and for a moment looked fiercely protective. Mesmerised, we watched her and her chick for 6 hours, ignoring the humidity. Throughout, the female repeatedly called for food. Then she took flight, her huge 2-metre wings at full spread as she flew into the forest.
She didn’t go far. As she tussled with something in a nearby tree, I believed she was hunting, but then she returned with a branch. It seems she was just refreshing the nest with some greenery.
Male harpy eagle arrives
Still hungry, she kept searching the nest for food in vain. Males don’t bring food every day, so I was about to give up hope on seeing her mate until we heard him at last returning the her calls. All of a sudden, the male flew into the nest carrying prey. It was hard to see what he brought, but we watched the female take it and feed it to the chick.
We watched the male look around the nest before flying to the branch above. He was there long enough for me to get some amazing footage and then he took flight, melting back into the forest.

Is a 500 mm big enough?
Thanks for everything you provide to us. This life you live; what a total gift.
I shoot on Sony cameras and was using 100-400 and 200-600 lenses!
@@RobertEFuller thanks again Robert! 🙋💕
Don’t think I’d travel that far… you go ahead and enjoy for us!
As a disabled person whose primary mode of transportation is a wheelchair, I want to thank you for taking me with you on your adventures.
I've had a fondness for Harpy eagles since I was a young person, so getting to see this beautiful family of eagles has been the highlight of my day.
Thank-you again from the depths of my heart.
That's exactly what I said! I feel privileged to see this gorgeous film from a place I am not able to travel--but through Robert, Eliecer, and their guides, I am!
Thank you Faith
He really brings us with him!
I am in the same situation as you. From his live streams (that are on 24/7) to his videos, I feel as though I am experiencing everything with him! xxx 😊
I echo all. Housebound and thankful to travel like this…❤
The Harpy Eagle is one of my favorite birds, I love them!! It makes me sad to think about how their population is depleting.
I agree!
I agree, they are like smaller terror birds that can fly it’s amazing! Their claws are massive and are the largest eagle specimen alive ATM
Me too
We need more people like Mr.Fuller.
@@user-ef4vx2ll4m well said!!
That was amazing to see not just a harpy eagle, but a whole family!
Many thanks for the movie .
I'm a raptor addict and discovered the Harpy Eagle a few years ago here on TH-cam. Obviously videos are rare because of the rarity of the species and the remoteness of the habitats. Philippine Eagles (also endangered for same reasons) are similar in these respects and fascinate me also. Not easy trekking through rain forests and all that they entail. Thank you so much for capturing these lovely scenes of one of nature's rarest and most awesome creatures!
Harpy eagles and Philippines eagles are also my favorite! They're so big and unique looking ❤!
@@Galaxia7 truee
Robert, you just made a great day even greater! This was a wonderful gift to animal lovers! Congratulations to you, Eliecer, and all the guides for making this rare film! I can tell from your voice how much you revere such creatures. And without our guides, we could never capture such moments.
What a find, and what magnificent birds! Thank you for sharing!
I'm a long-time subscriber to Robert's channel, the meticulous way he goes about preparing and editing his videos on all things nature-based has brought this daft [English for stupid 😂😂] 70 yo man to tears on occasion. The man is a national treasure.
I recall watching a documentary years ago where two naturalists were fitting a nest cam.
The guy who installed the camera had to wear a helmet and body armour, they have ferociously long talons.👍
Fantastic! That harpy female calling for food is absolutely beautiful! 😅
Amen
I must say I really admire the harpy eagles' bold fashion sense and confidence! On any other bird (or human) an extravagant gray plumed headdress, black scarf, black cloak, white waistcoat, hounds-tooth pants, black socks and ORANGE shoes would be a fashion dud! But they carry it off regally!
NOT a raptor you want angry with you!
Glad that you got to see these magnificent birds. You deserve it :)
Such a pretty grey colour on their head 😮
Love this awesome video. The Canopy family guide beside Robert gives such knowlede and insight into the lives of the rare and beautiful Harpy Eagle. His love and enthusiasm is so heartwaming.
I hope people are aware that the Darien Jungle is called the Darien Gap which is the "hostile environment" claiming the lives of many illegal mmigrants going to the US. Their travel has caused much destruction to this beautiful natural habitat.
Much thanks Robert for another spectacular video. Take a bow!
Thanks 😊 glad you enjoyed the film and yes it’s also known for people trying to get through trying to make a better life for themselves but this is a very difficult place to travel
I never would’ve thought an eagle would live in the jungle. Only one chick every five years, wow. Google says they live 35-40 years, so each pair may only produce another 7 or 8 eagles in their lifetimes. Protect these precious and beautiful birds. ❤️🦅
Hello from the Philippines 🇵🇭 I'm your new subscriber l have been watching all of your videos since yesterday and suddenly became a fan of yours.
Thank you so much for making this!
In all the documentaries I've seen, they've focused on the terror and power of the Harpy. . . it's beautiful to see the nurturing side of this magnificent bird. ❤❤
OMG Robert this is fantastic 👀thank you 💕
Heavy sigh. Thank you. You take me to places I will never get to see.
Since my last name is Eagle too, Eagles have always been special to me. And Harpies are just so amazing to watch.
Oh my gosh!!! Harpies have always been my very most favorite, WOW!! MAKE MY MORNING!!! So good to see one again, but never have I seen a family!!! I'm so thrilled thank you, thank you!!❤️!!! And I'm so glad you made this trip, yay!!!!
Beautiful, thank you. I had never seen an harpy eagle before!
*squeal* I'M SO JELLY!!! I bet it was a phenomenal trip!
WOW, You've seen so many of God's creations!!!!❤❤ On my bucket list is the chance to see a bald eagle in the wild. They are starting to make nests where I live so I hope soon I can scratch that off my list.
Western Washington has many wild bald eagles. I even saw one in downtown Seattle, flying between the two ferry terminals! (Downtown Seattle also has a breeding pair of peregrine falcons!)
Magnifique cet aigle, et quel regard !
Informative, respectful and beautiful to watch. Job well done.
Thank you all for allowing me to see such a beautiful raptor.Protect them and their environment
Sept 2019, I spent three weeks in Panama at Canopy Family … great three weeks, great bird guys like Eli or his older brother Daniello … and yes, we too got lucky to see the Harpy Eagle. Thanks for sharing Robert!
Who needs the BBC when you've got Robert Fuller's TH-cam channel? :D
😆 thanks we will keep bringing wildlife stories to you all
To travel across the globe, trekking to some of the remotest areas of the world to get a few shots of natures treasure! Thanks for your hard work and for sharing it with humanity.
Incredible footage. I always feel like I'm watching Nat Geo. They are so beautiful and getting to see a nest with a chick must have been amazing! Thanks for sharing this rare eagle with us! 😊🦅
Glad you enjoyed it watching it all back in a edit film was like reliving the incredible experience of seeing them in real life
The production quality and narration are off the hook. Bravo to you! Loved it
Thank you for tgoing to such lengths to bring "us" with you.... but we can stay in the comfort of our homes... and relish all your work! You are a gift to both animal/nature lovers and to the animals!
It is brilliant :)
Wow, it's hard to believe that this little fluffball will grow up into such a regal and elegant predator like momma 😊

Cool Ty for sharing
Wonderful video! Absolutely beautiful shots!
I'm afraid the link you posted goes not to the intended place though, just a heads up!
I have never heard of the Harpie Eagle before. Thank you. They are stunning! Oh my how beautiful they are!
This effort to preserve the harpy eagle reminds me, years ago, when both the American bald and golden eagles were both in the endangered list because of the use of DDT, and when after it got banned, the population of both began to bounced back. Great job Robert!
Thanks and yes DDT Causes major problems with wildlife across the world
What a stunning eagle, one I've never even heard of before, oh wow how loud is the call, loved how the baby chick called too, I'm hungry ❤❤❤❤❤
What a special video!!! Thank you for all of your incredible hard work to bring this to everyone!

Awesome footage!!! This is on my bucket list to see one of these beautiful eagles one day...
Bless you and all who participated in this amazing video! 🤩😍❤️ Absolutely beautiful.
Rob, what an amazing eagle. I’ve never heard of a harpy eagle 🦅. It could have a place in a Harry Potter book. I’m so thrilling that you got to see one plus a baby chick. Thank you so much for sharing. Just amazing. 🥰🇦🇺
It looks like Buckbeak!
That was brilliant! I like how they stick out their tongues and have fluffy heads. The little one reminds me of my Airedoodle. Thank you for another wonderful movie and shared adventure
That forest is incredibly beautiful. It’s so wonderful that that family is so invested in taking care of the Harpy Eagles! Amazing footage as always. Thanks so much.
Yes, The farmers are very proud of having a Harpy nest on their land
Amazing 😮
Wow! The harpy is my favorite bird of prey and a magnificent creature 🤍 if you see one in person they are very formidable and surprisingly large in size which is why they were considered mythical animals.
Stunning! You get an idea of how huge these birds are when the guide mentions they catch sloths as a snack! What an adventure - thanks for sharing.
Yet again, then most amazing footage! Thank you for sharing
Couldn't get better ... the empress of the Jungle... wonderful sighting and recording material .... wonderful job by Canopy Family... a moment to cherish for life...

The production of your work is just magnificent. Not only are you capturing the site of these amazing creatures, but the quality of camera work and editing is great as well. from one videographer to another, you have simply inspired me. I love both film and animals and have never though to collide the 2 and I might just do it soon!
Thanks so much 😁 and good luck with your filming
I haven't seen this eagle much. It is definitely a charm. Very special sight. They are gorgeous. Tysm Robert for the beautiful journey 💖
Bello animal 💝💝💝
Wow what beautiful eagles. You're so lucky to have had the opportunity to see them.
What beautiful, magnificent birds! I've really only seen pictures of them before. To see this video of a whole family, with their adorable little eaglet, is just amazing. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful opportunity with us all. 🥰

Amazing..! Thank you for those images, what a majestic bird!
Fabulous bird . Thank you for sharing this .
Thank you for taking us along to see these glorious eagles! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I literally got chills when the harpy first appeared. Im amazed.
Imagine being there it was almost surreal for us I have been very lucky to travel the world and see so much wildlife but this took my breath away
So incredible what you are doing, riding a horse and the family to help you with all this. They know a lot about the eagle. I hope they can get some exchange for the good work done.
Take my breath away... Wow. That had to be so thrilling, so amazing to witness with your own eyes. I also liked the guide you had, he could hear the male before seeing it and was able to clue you in to his arrival by listening intently. Very nice! Thank you, really, THANK YOU!
Milagro, Robert! I'm fascinated with this breed of bird. And seeing it in the 5 year cycle was doubly remarkable. Great footage, too. Thank you for your work in conservation.
We somehow brought bald eagles back from the brink here: praying the world responds.
From the heart from LA
I love your channel and I appreciate your sharing God's Wonderful creations of nature!
Eliecer seems like a very passionate and knowledgeable guide!
We loved our time with everyone that ran the Canopy camps and lodges especially Eliecer such a great guy
The Bald Eagle was my number one Apex Predator until I stumbled on a video of the Harpy several years ago. Never thought the Bald would be dethroned but if it had to be only the Harpy could claim that spot! Two incredible birds of prey, nature outdone its self in my opinion! 😎
This is a wonderful environment with wonderful animals. We could see the rare Harpy Eagle parent and child. Thank you for your valuable video.
I have never heard of the Harpy Eagle, they are so majestic and beautiful, thank you for sharing it with the world. I hope they are protected. I would hate to see them vanish from this world.
HI HEY @Robert E Fuller🐰HAPPY EASTER DAY🐇⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐💙🤗
So majestic…Absolutely magnificent. Imagine enjoying such panoramic views and living nature from my living room! The Harpy Eagle is such a mysteriously beautiful and phenomenal bird. So massive. Thank you RF. Thank you so much.
Wow! Just wow! I'd never even heard of the Harpy Eagle. It was wonderful to learn about this magnificent bird and to realize that I'd gotten such a rare glimpse. Thank you so much for letting us go with you on your incredible journey.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just want to say you do an awesome job, with all the bird species you video. They're so ❤️
Thank you so much for sharing this video and bringing more awareness to replenishing the rain forests. This is the first time I have seen or even heard of the Harpy Eagle and I am 60 years old! I am also sure this isn't the only species that I haven't heard of before unfortunately. Education is the key to helping people understand that Mother Earth gives us everything we need to live but we are supposed to be her caregivers. We need to learn to be MUCH better at it!!! ⭐💖🙏
God. Your content is top quality! Capturing such beautiful angles and colours of the animals.
C'est magnifique 🌟 éblouissant , à couper le souffle.
Je viens de regarder ces merveilles 🎊 je n'en reviens toujours pas .
Toute cette beauté que vous nous offrez, c'est comme un soleil éclatant après la pluie.

Love your adventuresome spirit of Nature!!! Thank you, Robert💖💖💖👍😉
It's amazing how REF and his team is able to endure the hike on a foreign land, and still capture these captivating shots of these parent Harpy eagles.
I appreciate the hard work you guys had done in order to educate the viewers about these beautiful creatures. I hope one day you could visit the Philippines and meet our proud, and rare Philippine eagles, before its too late.
I like the idea of seeing the
