- In an attempt to reign in the Irish mafia, the police send in an undercover agent: Billy Costigan, a young cop looking to make a name for himself in the world of law enforcement. I love how the music in the background features the singer almost screaming while the scene itself is pretty civil with no screaming and a lot of pauses. This makes Frenchy at 1:26 hilarious 🤣

I always thought one flaw in this otherwise pretty solid movie was Frank’s girlfriend, we see her in this scene, they should’ve made it to where it’s the same girl we see in the beginning of the film when Colin is a kid, she’s working at her fathers store behind the counter, it would’ve been great to show how he corrupts his community even someone as benign as a teenage girl helping her dad at his store. Everything he touches turns to rot.

I had a strange convergence of the universe moment. I had a job of transcribing patient files. My job was to take in the raw laboratory data and enter it into the patient file. To kill time, I would play movies on my iPod while I was doing this. One time, I was in the dungeon basement of my office sorting through OLD patient files and I find a patient file named "Jimmy Pappas", LITERALLY as I'm watching this scene where Jimmy Pappas is being arrested. Sometimes I feel like there is a 5th-dimensional being that is messing with me.

I asked the girl I was falling in love with, the same question, same way of pronouncing it, only in my language. Was surprised she said "yes"
like that look costello and French gave eachother. Like they were saying to eachother "ok he is in." this fits right in with Costello doubting Billy at first when he said he couldnt trust Billy because he acts like he has nothing to lose. Then again when he talks about Billy's father saying he could never do anything with him because he never wated money. But now they heard Billy say he wanted money so now they think they can use him.

Was there a president John Lennon? There was John Brown Lennon an American labor union leader, but no president of that name.
Costello was asking because Costigan was not of the Beatles generation, though I thought high school for 20 years and all the kids know who the Beatles were. I think the Billy character caught the balance between being respectful and standing up to the Costello character in enough of a way that kept some respect there on costello’s part.
I dont think Billy was being sarcastic. If he was then the scene is no longer funny, the entire strength of the scene lies in Costello not reacting to Billy being totally wrong and not even giving enough of a shit to correct him. No way Billy was being sarcastic IMO, makes the whole scene boring
