In reality the ejection seat fires you upwards and clear of the aircraft. And props to a little known military facility in California, that packs and repacks all the parachutes for all four branches of the military; the people there know that each parachute is depended upon to work properly and save someone's life. You just saw one of their parachutes save that pilot's life. Sometimes, it's the "unknown folks" that can make a big difference.

Brought back memories of a 1970's jet fighter crash on the Wash Beltway after takeoff from Andrews,. H&W from our church coming home after work. The plane hit ground a few hundred yards away in the median, they were almost struck by a landing gear and strut. It hit pavement to their left and about 5 feet in front of their car they said. Luckily it had landed TIRE down so it It bounced over the top and out of sight behind them. Husband said they both needed a change of underwear. The pilot did an amazing job of guiding it to hit in the median as he ejected. No one was seriously injured. Lotta damaged cars by flying debris but only minor injuries to occupants.
VASAviation , As a french viewer ,may I inform you of a funny acronym in your video ? In French ,DCA means "Défense contre Avions" ,that you can translate to "Anti-aircraft artillery" :D Each time I see "DCA Tower" ... and this video is about a fighter jet ...
DCA is right on the edge of Washington...so I wouldn't be surprised if there were some "French" DCA hanging out in the area that we don't know about...
Had a friend once ask why all of a sudden the uptick in pilots ejecting from fighter jets. His face when I told him there is no uptick, its always been like this, just more people filming. LOL
In 1996 I saw an F-16 with engine failure stall over my head (probably 200 to 400 feet) and dive directly into a house in front of me. Pilot ejected safely (at about 100 feet) but a 4 year old child in the house was killed. I saw the firefighters pull the mother out of the rubble of the house. She was fighting the firefighters as they were dragging her out of the house. She was trying to get back into the house. I'll never forget it. This happened in Pensacola, FL.
I wish we could get the traffic from the F-16 that went down out of Spangenhelm in the summer of 2015. I was a first responder tasked with clearing the explosive and chemical hazards on scene in order for fire to take over. That was quite the show. Props to the pilots in both cases avoiding civilian populations and making it out safe!
Wasn't here for that one but I knew guys who were. I did, however go on the crash recovery for the Spangdahlem F-16 in 2019. Luckily that one was in one of the forests right off base because it took us 20 days to get the site right.
USAF Vet here. Getting too congested in these areas to be running high performance acft ops. Too dangerous. Crowded skies and crowded cities are a disaster waiting to happen. They need to find wide open ranges where you can train. There's only ONE place left with the ramp space for fighter and high performance bomber acft to train low level, train in mountainous terrain and train mid level for ACM. Mountain Home AFB, Idaho. PLUS, the 366th Fighter Wing routinely has Foreign AF visitors that you can train with. The Royal Singapore AF flies F-15SG's there. If you want to get smoked, you can try the 389th FS T-Bolts. Warning: They're unbeatable. If you want to see the T-Bolts mountain flying, try looking at a you tube video referred to as "F-15E Strike Eagle Low Level." Mountain flying starts at 1:30. Check out his channel too.
Just watched about two dozen of these vids. Great job on them. I'm sure it must take you a lot of time to get the editing down just right. I had no idea they could be so interesting.

This is why the Navy and Marine Corps do not like single engine aircraft. When you lose an engine, you lose the whole plane. Jet aircraft are lousy gliders. Flying over the oceans, with no auxiliary landing choices, you need to be able to get back to your carrier.
Yeah, I was attached to an F/A-18D squadron and also worked the flight deck of a carrier as part of the ship's crew. I was pointing out that the Navy wouldn't want F-16's in their inventory because of the single engines. When you're far from land, with no divert, you want a spare engine to get home.
I hear Potomac Approach talk to Foley 1 (which I'm assuming is the F-16); however I don't hear Foley 1's responses. Is he on an unrecorded frequency, was he edited out by you, or am I just confused?

Why did we not get to hear anything from the pilot? We pretty much heard exclusively what Potomac Approach had to say, but not one word from the F-16...
It's an engine failure, it's not the pilots fault. It also doesn't mean it has to be the mechanic either. There's plenty of things that could have caused an engine failure besides human error.

Thats dumb luck. Served 28 yrs. I know and have meet pilots that have eject for all kinds of aircraft. F-111, F-4, A-7, F-16, F-15, and a couple of Navy. A-6 and F-14. Working on ejection seats was my thing for 8yrs until I made rank and sat the seat.
I suppose there is a huge difference between ejecting at low speed, and ejecting at close to mach. Hitting the air at the same speed as a bullet just has to hurt.
@@ps2hacker Of course, like everything else it depends on the circumstances and injuries sustained. I also new a younger F-15C pilot at lakenheath who injured his back lifting weights one day. The type of spinal injury he had forced him to have to move to a non-ejection seat aircraft. Way she goes...

Good to see the American Airlines Pilot see'ing if the fighter pilot was okay.
Fairly decent chance these days that the airline pilot either is or was a military pilot as well.

They just released the report on this crash. The problem was improper engine assembly.
Meaning someone in the engine shop had a run-in with a slightly irate officer later.

I assume DCA comes from District Columbia Airport and is the code for Ronald Reagan National Airport in Washington DC.

Probably not heard by the receiver.
My best guess is fighter is on UHF and the controller is broadcasting on both UHF and VHF but only the VHF is being picked up

Fighters talk on UHF, all the recorded audio is VHF (the controller talking to the aircraft is likely 'simulcasting' on both UHF and VHF)

Not true. The aircrew (pilot and WSO) who ejected from the F-15E over Libya in 2011 were flying again a short time after.
