  • Have you been struggling to teach your dog or puppy the "in your crate" command like I was? I'm going to share with you the trick I use to get Sophie to go happily into her crate! I think this is one of my favourite things that I've managed to teach Sophie.

    I have had Nino for a year now, and everything I have seen on your videos so far is absolutely accurate and helpfully true. I wish I had seen them a year ago. Nino does experience separation anxieties when I am out a lot. I am going to take him with me more. I have wanted to, but he does get car sick. Unfortunately, my wife died last July, so he has only me for company. He is very friendly and affectionate. Thank you so much for your wonderful work.

    Great concept. My dog snuffed her nose at the peanut butter, Jif, but she was full on board with the ham. I'll keep that up, thanks

    On my second day of training this command. With 2 puppies. One has started to go in but i need to walk by the crate but he knows exactly what i want him to do and has even gone in with me pointing at the crate 1 or 2 times saying the command. The other one isnt as smart and is still taking a while 😂
    Edit - 3rd day they both go in but still not on command. I have to go near the crate with a treat before they do go in
    Day 4 - They know what i want them to do but dont do it via commands

    Sophie is so adorable!
    We tried the first (in/out) method without much success, although it did get our "kennel up" phrase to stick. She just wasn't very willing to do it. We eventually used a peanut butter & kibble filled Kong to convince her that being in her crate for more than 2 seconds could actually be a positive thing. Now whenever we get a treat of any kind for her, she zooms into her crate without us saying anything, and if we tell her to "kennel up" without a treat, she usually does it.

      Your puppy is so smart and clever! Clearly she's very food motivated, which it seems like that's what helped convince her that her crate isn't so scary. I can tell that your hard work payed off, it's so rewarding when our puppies finally accomplish something new. Thanks for sharing!

    I got my cavapoo last week. At first he wouldn't go in. Now he goes in without me needing to tell him. Although I have the opposite problem now since when I get up to take him out to do his business, he doesn't want to get out of his crate 😅

    • @NessaandSophie
      @NessaandSophie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's so great that he's comfortable going in, but the fact the he doesn't want to come out is pretty cute! 😊

  • @soozler

    Okay, my dog will not go in the crate, I put full strips of bacon in the crate and she just sits there and looks at it and crys. Will never enter it, UNLESS, she is completely alone and knows the door won't close. I believe the previous owner had her locked in a cage for most of her life. What to do? None of the tricks I have seen work, the only thing that seems to work is if I go in the crate and feed her when I am in the crate, but that is not a real solution.

    • @NessaandSophie
      @NessaandSophie  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Congratulations! Sophie's crate is 24" long by 17" wide by 19" high and it used to have a divider but we took it out once she got bigger.

      @Siofo C You're welcome! I can't speak for all brands of crates but there are some crates that come with the divider included (Sophie's is from the brand MidWest). I hope that helps.

    Did you use a specific peanut butter?

    • @NessaandSophie
      @NessaandSophie  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I usually use Kraft peanut butter. There's a lot of different peanut butters out there, so just make sure it doesn't have xylitol.

      Congratulations, that's so exciting! 😊 Sophie's crate is 24" long by 17" wide by 19" high. We had a divider in it to make the crate smaller for her and we took it out when she got her spay surgery at 6 months.

      For about the first month or two after we brought her home and we were crate training her, she would whine and cry to be let out. But with a lot of rewards, persistence and patience she has no problem being in her crate now, just chilling. 😊
