Excellent video my man! Been a hobbyist and professional for over 35 years and you covered all the bases! I will pass on to customers so they just don’t hear me preaching lol.
Don't be afraid to get rid of certain ones if you make a stocking mistake. Took me a while to learn that one. When I first started I had a Jaguar that got big and would kill any new fish I added. If it fit in his mouth, it was gone. Then once I ended up with a breeding pair of convicts... Came in one day and there was a black cloud of convict babies, and the 2 had every fish in the tank pushed to the other end lol About 80 in a 200 gal... Convicts ain't no joke when they breed lol I really miss all my tanks. I had about 10 tanks at one time not including breeding tanks. When I figured out how to strip the females and make my own egg bubblers, I had probably 20 grow out tanks too. One of these days I'll get back into it.
Great video! Super informative. I'm getting back into the hobby after a 15 year hiatus and plan on sticking with all African Cichlids. I can see a lot has changed for the better. I've been watching as many of your video's as I can to get up to date with the times. One of the major questions i have is what filter to use? I saw one of your videos where you talk about cleaning and set up of the Fluval 407. I was debating between this and the Fluval FX4. Again, the tank size will be 75 gallons. Any thoughts as to which one would be more appropriate for Cichlids and this tank size? Thanks!
On my 75 I had an FX6 and a 407 running. This is because my tank was overstocked, by design. You may not overstock at first but you'll eventually see the benefits of doing so. natural progression for new African Cichlid owners. You have a very strange mix of fish that are not usually kept together. I am surprised you dont have more problems. Aggression will always be in your tank because of the species mix. You have fish that require different diets too. Severums are usually very calm fish so it sounds strange that hes the bully in your tank. Good luck with your tank bud. Very informative. I have a 250G Mbuna (all male) tank with reef tank set up with overflow and massive sump with UV, GFO, carbon, ATS, and two large bio towers. I also run Reef lighting over it (Kessil A360Xs) to bring out fish color and shimmer in tank. I run them in a narrow illumination period to restrict algae. My stocking is very heavy, probably 100 Mbunas.

I love your videos and so true .so imformative.thank you . Mine have done exactly that .at first I thought there was gonna be trouble but no they are settling down .
Just got African cichlids less than a month ago. My first tank ever I have a 29 gallon tank with only 4. There definitely are 2 that seem to pick on one all the time. Is there a time period where this may get better or if it doesn’t I should try quarantining? Also I can not find the App you spoke about. Do you know if it is available on Apple phones? I would love to know what type of fish they are specifically!
Thats why you need to overstock. With only 4 one will become dominant and pick on the other 3. Just searched the app store and unfortunately it looks like its gone...sorry bud
I always took the aggressive fish out… rearranging on tank.. and put him back in the next day and never had problems.. I also kept females and males together.. I had a beautiful rock scape so when they had babies.. and yes they had MANY babies.. the little ones could hide…also never had problems with aggression.. it was a pretty big tank also.. 120 gallon.. but you have some amazing fish.. my son who is 14 and has autism loves fish so we are talking about getting another tank and starting..
Liked and subscribed. I absolutely loved seeing the parrot fish. Recently someone told me I shouldn't have mixed parrot fish with my haps and peacocks so this video has set me at ease :)
Thanks for the sub! Technically they are right, technically they shouldnt be together because of water parameters and temperment....but as you can see, it can be done successfully! Here's another great video that will make you feel even better - th-cam.com/video/7FQoNp5EO0I/w-d-xo.html
Yep I do feel even better after watching that. I have 2 parrots and they live together in a submarine. They swim with my dolphin and 2 peacocks but don't get involved in the squabbles lol. I'm getting more Africans soon I defo need more and fingers crossed it carries on working out :)

Mozzy Bone Thanks for those words! Glad you enjoyed the video 👍
KaveMan Aquatics no problem bro. Keep them coming. I have a Mbuna tank and a peacock tank. My peacocks are all juvenile so I’m waiting to see which will color up and which won’t so I know what I have. The Mbunas are crazy as usual. But I can never figure out who the tank boss really is because they all get chased at some point. Lol
Mozzy Bone lol yea that mbunas for ya! Goal for my 2nd tank is an mbuna tank...love those guys too!

Absolutely beautiful fish. Best video yet.
Hey Kaveman, just started up again. Which online fish source do you suggest. It’s been a while for me, and there’s many out there. Cheers
zflyzone thanks Bud, welcome back!! I use coastalcichlids.com The owners name is Neil, great customer service and awesome healthy fish. You can communicate with him directly through DM on Facebook or Instagram too. Tell him Kev sent ya 😉 Welcome back Mate!
Thanks a lot Kev will be checking it out for sure.
That sounds like an awesome setup! 💪💪

Thank you for sharing your knowledge 🙏 very helpful 👍
My pleasure! Glad you're finding the channel helpful 😁

Thanks bro, glad you’re enjoying it! 😊
Great video, answered many questions have.
sidney white Thanks! 😊
Fantastic video with allot of good advice 👌

Which out of the three groups does a blood parrot fit into, would they do best in a peacock and haps tank or in a Mbuna tank
Great video and beautiful African cichlid tank! I see you too have several different species of Africans.
Thanks! Yes I do but they are all peacocks and haps except for only 1 Yellow Lab.
