    You guys need to permanently hire Nicole as the Bass Gang editor. With Marwan's arranging, Nicole's editing, and all of your voices, the bass gang will have unlimited power.

    by far the best part of this reaction and analysis is seeing your pride in your work and your colleagues. And of course it is well deserved. Great job!

    Malinda’s phrasing in the intro is just so money. I love the deliberate detail, but it still is so relaxed and beautiful.

    Just watched the official video....Haven't actually watched this one yet, but I have to say that yours and Malinda's voices blend beautifully....I have been following Malinda for years, since her Translator Fails days....Her face is soooo expressive when she sings....
    This is a favourite song of mine and I think you all did it justice....Beautiful cover...

    I was so thrilled to see Malinda on this one, she is so talented. And holy high range, I was thoughoughly impressed by the higher ranges. We have all heard u guys sing higher and know u can but it still sometimes shocks me with the range and beauty. So amazing guys, super great. I had goosebumps the intire video.
    I always have to watch these like 3 times just to hear all the extra magic I miss on my initial viewing.

    Although I've seen the Bass Gang's videos on their own channel (and keep going back for another listen!), I'm still catching up on your reactions to and analysis of them, which I'm really enjoying. The pride and enjoyment you get from the Bass Gang videos is wonderful to see. I love Bobby's comment in his section after the video finishes where he says that Malinda brought out the tenor in you all - she really did and it was magnificent! You and Malinda sound fabulous together - a full duet between you two would, I'm sure, be awesome - and hearing Bobby let rip in his higher range was quite glorious to hear.
    Looking forward to more content from you and the Bass Gang 👍☺

    I think the word you were looking for when describing Malinda’s opening was…. Ethereal. An angel singing in the clouds. You were all superbly phenomenal. We’ve seen Tomi’s Mad World, Marwan’s Centuries and now Bobby’s Iris. If I’m not mistaken, that means it’s your turn next week correct? Can’t wait!

    So, I gotta be honest, as someone who was a teenager when this song came out, I've been going back and forth about hearing the bass gang's version because the original has so much effing meaning to me....I should have listened to this sooner. Great job of making it your own but staying true to the emotional builds in the original! I gotta say that I love hearing you up in tenor land! Such a beautiful gift you have, thank you for sharing it with us!

    This was lovely. Not "BASS IN YO FACE" but that is 100% ok! There is enough talent here that it's just fine to be beautiful and light, and when the emotions get a bight darker the vocals do, too...which is great. Bravos to all. Well videographed, too. Excellent job, but I expected no less from The Bass Gang, and was never disappointed.

    Such an amazing rendition of this. Not gonna lie, this shocked me. Went a totally different route than I expected. With Melinda, and figuring Bobby did this one, I fully expected Irish or Shanty….wrong. Just vocal gold in a different genre.

    Bobby is always a bit of a weird voice to me, cause I can't really categorize it. I wouldn't say it's pop ish, but I wouldn't say it's classic either. It's sounds like a mixed voice taken down to a 2. to 3. octave with a high soft palet... sounds really smooth, but even in trying to reproduce the tone as close as I ca, like, in the 2. and lower 3. oktave I can maintain it pretty clearly, but in the higher 3. octave my tone get's way to powerfull compared to bobbys, which I tried a couple of time to come near it but I totally can't. So ye, every time I hear him I'm kinda impressed on how smooth the tone is and on how hard it is for me to come somewhere near that sound and maintain it ^^

  • @maudglazbrooke1287
    @maudglazbrooke1287 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Dumb question time.... most of the time you number the octaves so I'm used to that, I feel I have context for that. Here you keep talking about "high As" which octave is that? And is that one of those things that changes definition depending on the context? Like whether a note is either a sharp or a flat depending on the phase of the moon??
    From the outside music theory (and the way it labels stuff) seems so very, very arbitrary and hard to follow.

    • @PeterBarber
      @PeterBarber  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question -- high A for male voices is an A4, and an A5 for female voices. And those actually don't change based on context -- the only thing that's fluid is where you start calling a note a "high" note, or a "low" note on the low end. For example, for tenors, you would call a C3 their "low C" but for basses we call a C2 a low C. Vice versa, sometimes you would say a high C for a bass voice is a C4, whereas for tenor it's a C5

    • @maudglazbrooke1287
      @maudglazbrooke1287 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PeterBarber So for tenors a low C is C3 and bass it's C2..... do you just avoid the term altogether for baritones? It's things like this that make it seem a touch arbitrary.
