I enjoyed this video. I grew up in Toronto and I understand how you felt arriving at Union Station and looking at the CN Tower😊You also mentioned you went to Guelph to visit Mike's grandmother. I lived in Guelph for about 40 years before moving to Victoria so I know it well. I might have also known Mike's grandma🙂 Small world. Thanks for taking us along on your get away to TO.

When you grow up in places like Guelph, or other Southern Ontario towns/cities, you get very used to buildings made of brick or stone. When you move to Vancouver or Victoria it is a bit of a shock to find most houses are wooden; often stucco bungalows with no basements. It takes a lot of getting used to because the buildings feel less permanent. Vancouver, Victoria and Calgary are much younger cities, so there are a lot less historical buildings than in a city like Toronto or Montreal. I'll admit, that was one thing I always did miss on the West coast; the variety of architectural styles.

Fun visit! I find Vancouver winters to be cold and damp, and dark. Some years you can go from October to April without seeing the sun. And there is snow, at least 2 or 3 times a winter in Vancouver; sometimes starting before Christmas.😒 I find the lack of cultural activities in Vancouver to be difficult because I love museums, live theatre, opera, contemporary music, the arts, festivals, busy sidewalks, nightlife, late bars, all of which there is little of in Vancouver; people just don't seem interested in those sorts of things. I'd say it is more early to bed and early to rise there and I expect maybe people go to places like Whistler for entertainment. There is also a palpable energy in the air in Toronto that is missing in Vancouver; some people don't like the buzz, but I love the action, with new things popping up all the time. For those reasons I also love London and New York; neither of them are sleepy cities and every day you discover something new. There are some really good restaurants in Vancouver, but not the same depth or variety of the massive food scene in Toronto; much of which has to do with the more varied cultural mix in that city. Again, some people like that, others don't; I love it. But fresh fish and shrimps on the West Coast are awesome. Spring in Vancouver/Victoria is the best, and Autumn in Toronto is the best. But I LOVE love love the hot summer weather in Toronto; it makes up for winter and I never complain about it! It is true though, Brits and Vancouverites/Victorians have the most difficulty adapting to the weather in Toronto of any groups I have known in Toronto. Much more-so than people from tropical countries like Brazil or the Philippines . I think when you live in Toronto people just get on with things and don't spend so much time moaning about what cannot be changed. I suppose it is the same living on the West coast (or Dublin or Manchester); you can't moan every time it rains or you'd be moaning most of the year. In those places, you can't let rain stop you from doing things. You did manage to hit the coldest time of the winter in Toronto though! The rest of the winter was amazingly mild. Come back to visit your old hood in the summer! You will get some great sunshine!

I’ve heard about the seemingly never-ending winter rain in Vancouver-here in Victoria we luckily don’t get that thanks to the rain shadow! It is very much like back home so I’m used to it, though. The rain is comforting to me, whereas I really struggle with extreme hot/cold weather!

@@EmmeSait I do believe Victoria has a milder and better winter climate the Vancouver. Mind you, even in Vancouver it depends what part of the city you live in. The weather can vary quite a bit from one part of the metro to another.
