  • Hi friends! It's been almost 7 years since I moved to Canada, so I wanted to share some expectations I had of living here versus what actually happened. I hope you enjoy it :)

It has been a long time! I was just thinking the other day that it had been a long time since I had checked on your channel.
A beautiful post, and quite touching. I love you attitude on life, and I wish you all the best on your ongoing adventures.

Good video. I'm so glad you love Canada. I'm in my 40's and have lived in Vancouver my whole life. It's a fantastic place, but as you mentioned buying a home is insanely expensive. I really wish I was smarter with my money when I was younger. All the best to you.

Hi Emme, not sure if I wrote you before but I moved on my own to Vancouver from London in 1995. It was the hardest and craziest thing I done in my life. I applied for a PR visa when I lived in London and qualified on the points system. I had no contacts , no job, no where to stay (except for some temporary accommodation I found in a Canadian news paper) and a limited amount of savings. I am a software engineer but it took me over 6 months to find my first contract job, and in the meantime I worked as a window cleaner, power washing the Bentall Center in downtown Vancouver.😬 After the 2nd year I became more established and got a permanent job, but I will never forget that experience. I guess its what you do when you are young and naïve😀. I became a Canadian citizen in 1999 and then moved to the San Francisco Bay Area on a NAFTA visa and finally got sponsored by my employer for a Green Card and later took US citizenship. I still live in San Francisco Bay Area but to be honest I have never got over being homesick, but I know my memories of the UK are frozen in time. I have been back to the UK less than 5 times since I left, and the last time was over 11 years ago. My American wife and I plan to retire back in the UK some day (or possibly Canada). It's nice to have a choice.😀

It's been a while since I have been on your channel. Need to catch up. Since goin back to the office this January, I find it difficult to be caught up on all the channels I love. Cheers!

A change of routine can definitely be tough to rebalance-I hope you’re enjoying it, though! Happy to see you back :)

I haven’t lived in either places so I would have to do it from the viewpoint of a tourist who’s only spent a very small amount of time in Calgary and a lot more time in Vancouver 😅
Weather wise-Vancouver has milder weather and is rainier, Calgary has more extreme weather and is drier.
