  • This week for Weapons Wednesday, we tested out our Spring-Loaded Batons! At KarateMart.com, we've sold automatic batons for many years, but we recently began carrying a new one that reimagines the entire way they work. In this video, I review the different types of automatic police batons we carry and put them to the test in a couple of different ways.
    Check out all of our batons at www.KarateMart.com/batons
    Here are the spring-loaded expandable batons reviewed in this video:

    Automatic Spring Baton: www.karatemart.com/auto-exten...
    Spring-Loaded Expandable Baton: www.karatemart.com/spring-loa...
    If you have any questions about these automatic telescoping batons or any of our collapsible batons, please leave them in the comments below.

    Thank you for sharing & presentation , Both Spring Loaded Batons that you tested against the watermelons are amazing , but I think the new one is much better because it's sturdy & has some weight into it plus it has a glass breaker it will still hurt even it has a wider diameter point / head or modify the tip like grind it or replace it with a smaller diameter or make it pointy like a spear then you have a spear point & a baton . ..

    I've long been searching for a replica of the spring loaded sword cane from the 1946 movie Gilda. Haven't seen one anywhere. Been looking at these automatic batons to possibly fashion one from the internals.
    Any ideas or suggestions?

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s an excellent question. Strangely enough, you are asking the right person. I’ve been working on a number of spring loaded items including a walking stick and others for the past 7 or 8 years and have had luck with some, but got held up on others. I do think you are on the right track with reverse engineering a spring loaded baton or an OTF knife. That’s actually how I started the process. However the two biggest hurdles I’ve had in the process (depending on the weapon) is the spring (length, tension, diameter, etc) and the telescoping materials. Various materials tend to telescope well at first, but eventually get dust or debris from scraping which causes them to eventually stick. Depending on how you want it to work, I would try mechanisms from the batons and OTF knives and see if you can create a prototype. I really do wish you the best. It’s so gratifying when you make a cool weapon. It’s been fun seeing a lot of the ones I designed in movies and TV shows. Have an awesome weekend!

    The spring in the old one sounds
    like its twice as strong as this new
    model, I really like that, but the rest
    of the features of the new one are
    what I would be looking for:
    No guard (don't need that, would get in the way
    as mentioned)
    Side safety switch.
    Front latch.

    Hey Kyle, I happen to stumble across tour channel once again. Always enjoyed watching your videos on weapons and as someone who has a cold steel 16" baton that's still going strong and works perfect (aside from minor wear down of the black finish) I wanted to do a review of it sometime honestly because it's stood the test of time and has been used a lot on random objects and thrown around. I've always loved batons and have eyballed that silver finish one for years just never taken the plunge. One question I want to ask is if it is heat treated steel at all? That's a big factor for me and I'm sure you know as well as I do why heat treated steel is better and lasts longer and won't bend. Anyways sorry for writing ya a book in the comments section!😂 just glad I bumped into your channel again. Might want to pick one of these babies up sometime or see what else you have on your site.

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks for checking out our channel again! I completely agree with you…the heat treated ones can handle a lot more abuse than the ones that aren’t heat treated. The spring-loaded expandable baton is definitely heat treated (www.karatemart.com/spring-loaded-expandable-baton), which is why I’ve been able to test it out on cinder blocks in other videos. I hope you have an excellent weekend!

    • @chrisvoa
      @chrisvoa ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not technically legal in Australia. If you have a security level 3 licence and have the certified training through LRD you may carry an extendable baton in Australia whilst working (if your employer has written you a letter to specify you may carry one on the job) and the new spring loaded ones aren't legal but you can purchase them online in Australia. Meaning the customs won't check it coming into the country because its already here! I have a few.of each. They're great tools.but remember as an Australian, we do not have self defense rights. Its disgusting but true. So make.sure if you use it, you're as within your rights as possible and were fearing.for your life.

    • @chrisvoa
      @chrisvoa ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I forgot, if you're carrying one, it.legally.must be worn on the outside and visible to everyone around you or else you will.be charged with holding a concealed weapon. AUSTRALIA has the worst laws regarding any self defense or protective rights. Here, someone can break.into your home and hurt themselves and sue YOU! Its true and has happened. Pathetic. But someone breaks into my home or threatens my family, they will suffer greatly and I will gladly serve my time to protect my family. Things have to change.

    Hello. By the way great video review you did. Looks awesome the way it opens fast. Just a question I was wondering, do you know by any chance if this automatic baton can withstand rain or underwater? Since it's a spring baton and I believe it doesn't need any lubricant if I'm correct? I live in a wet environment and people have told me that water can damage an expandable baton if it gets inside and cause the lubricant to wash away or something like that and it won't work properly anymore. But a spring baton? I'm not sure if it's water resistant. If you know, let me know. That would be great 👍

    Wonder why they never put a glass breaker at the tip as well seeing as how the actual deployment can be considered an impact strike. Not sure that as is it would do much unless opened under an attackers chin? Or side of the head? Dunno but these look fun

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question, Cameron. I have seen companies sell spiked tips for them before, but the problem is that they take a lot of force against the tip to close, so a spiked tip would get dulled pretty quickly. Of course there are ways to mitigate that, so with the right design, it could be cool. Thanks so much for watching! I really appreciate it!

    • @Karatemart

    Do any of these batons LOCK when its extended? I see most people just swinging these things when one of the most POTENT moves is to thrust/jab with it - but I don't want it to CLOSE if I jab the attacker's head (hard surface) with it.

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s a great question! With all of the friction open batons we carry as well as these spring loaded ones, it takes an incredible amount of force on an extremely hard surface to close them. A persons head or body isn’t dense enough to close them, so you can use them for jabs and thrusts. I hope you are having an excellent weekend!

    I like the new one, but it seems to open up just a hair slower in my opinion. I could be wrong tho

    • @Karatemart
      @Karatemart  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly! It doesn’t open as quickly or as powerfully, but it does seem better made and stronger overall. Thanks so much for watching Josh!

      @@Karatemart thank you for replying. It would be nice if y’all could find one that has good construction, is strong and opens fast that is spring activated.
      If not that’s fine.

      @@TexasLegionaryGuard for sure! The old one is actually made really well and has an incredibly strong spring. The new one just looks cooler. Thanks so much for watching!

      @@TexasLegionaryGuard I agree, the super snappy
      'open' is impressive. It's pretty obvious that this new
      one is easy to close, but there is absolutely no urgency
      in closing it right away or in a 'slick' fashion where
      used for self defense. A thug might want to close it
      quickly and hide it but the rest probably lean more
      toward effectiveness. That old model looks to me
      like it could break a window , just being snapped open.
      Nothing wrong with the new one but I think they should
      offer two models, medium/light spring, Heavy/Heavy
      spring.

      Hi! Thanks so much for watching! I've sharpened the tips before and I've also seen tips like that for sale, but the problem is that when you close the baton, it dulls the tips. There are ways around that and we've discussed possible ways of designing it so that wouldn't be a problem, but we haven't released a version like that yet. Excellent suggestion though!
