Thor let the goblins know to come in droves. Not disappointed! I know a fair about about a lot of the topics that came up, but you go deeper into it, and you manage to keep a somewhat dystopian subject very light-hearted!
hey thank you! yeah we try to cover this topic extensively and not from a hypebeast style of persepctive. to us, it's prob THE defining tech story of the next decade so we're just super interested in covering in a way that allows a lot of people to think about it in a smart and informed way.
it's not all bad and it's not all good. but it is legitimately going to be a huge deal.
Being able to create a game while streaming and engaging with an audience simultaneously is so impressive

I'm glad you guys gave the Humane and Rabbit teams a shout out. They're getting a lot of shit right now but someone needs to take chances and just get ideas out there, even if they don't end up being useful right now. They probably won't sell well or they'll go belly up, but the ideas are in the public conscious and people can improve upon it.
ty ty ty yeah it's hard making stuff. while i really do agree with a lot of the reviews, it's cool seeing people pushing to make new things.
in a weird way, Kickstarter was great for this before it blew up so much. you could help support small teams making things and then if the first version wasn't great you still felt good for being part of the journey
the harder part is that these collided hard with the general feelings about AI and in Humane's instance specifically I think they had a bit of hubris that bit them in the butt

@@AIForHumansShow I am a guy who loves tech, grew up with tech and I see it as a thing that really helped us improve but the few issues we have are our brain always block high effort tasks cause we are lazy apes!
when these technologies becomes TOO reliable, we end up divorcing our brains and just give control to these "tools" I mean as a fella who has been dealing with a lot of young artists, it has been tough everytime I handle any training as even foundational knowledge is missing from a lot of young artists.
and this is something I worried about when tools like Substance painter released, and it offers this awesome library of tools and materials.
but then I saw a decline in the technical side for 3D texturing that was suppose to be basic entry level and suddenly became " advance "
I just do not want people to relay too much on these "tools" cause when we do, I dare even say we will face decline in intelligence.
and the whole thing of data set being used by the corpos, like this thing called Terms and Agreement is just them ripping us off and nothing else.
a couple of years ago I left twitter for good and recently left Meta as those tech goons think they can just take whatever they want.
years of sketches, drawings, studies and all our hard work and effort and give nothing in return, Heck I wish even the platform is working well, facebook is complete shit recently that basic functions like notifications system is 100% broken and they keep cornering users to install their apps which are practically malwares and its goal is just harvest data, day and night, none stop.
Humans are dangerous creatures, you can not stop them from doing bad things, there is always the ones that 100% buried the little guy in their head that says " don't do that dood, that is no good "
I do not fear AI, I fear the people who are using it, and the people who are trying to make it a "product" cause their initial goal is not helping us but hooks us up on a system endlessly to drain everything for their benefits and nothing else.

Great episode, and great interview! I can verify that PirateSoftware was all over the suggested Shorts for me on YT since the end of last year- so solid strategy there.
Wild idea for a checkpoint episode: Instead of an AI cohost- Have AI run the show as the host...I heard Gash say he was up for it.
Otherwise, a what/how/who summary of AI mediums and key players would be a hit for a lot of people. Your early episode breakdowns and examples of the key technologies (and issues like hallucinations) really did a good job of developing more of a conceptual understanding of AI for me. The entire Reddit API scandal made understanding data mining and the value of these platforms a lot more relevant, and was something that particularly resonated for me as well. Thanks again to both of you (and anyone else contributing)!

3 1/2 years ago I suffered an autoimmune attack that affected my Central Nervous System, Like a severe MS attack that just happened the one time, and my speech was affected greatly. I've recovered about 95% now, but I left that experience understanding just how much cerebral effort it takes to actually talk. I would get so tired just having conversations with people after 30 minute I would have to take a nap. I stream as well and have broken through that massive fatigue I would feel as an ill person, but guys... dont sell yourselves short on the effort it takes to talk forever. Human verbal communication is amazingly impossible man.

If we can get gpt2 to act as good as gpt4, that means that the same techniques applied to gpt4 turbo or just gpt 4 would generate the quality response of gtp 6 or 6 turbo if the improvement is linear, or gpt8 if exponential

One of the people in my college class uses chat gpt to write code... the result is that someone who's been in college a year more than me not being able to find a solution for a problem while using AI, but not understanding what the code does or how to integrate it into a project. The same problem that would take me around 10 minutes. AI is a very wobbly crutch.
Yeah this is really one of the biggest risks of AI in education at all, not learning the basic building blocks of the next thing.

For the CheckPoint episode. I would def make a list of the most useful and real problem solving ai tools. Mainly because when I was first trying my hand with ai I went through a lot of shovelware in a sense. Many of the tools out there are just re-hashed stuff, overpriced, and generally not great. Additionally maybe some prompt engineering basics. Just a few things I could think about off the top of my head. Hope that helps.
Solid point. I planned on a little section for "first steps" - how do you actually USE AI in a meaningful way - which would include a list of "problems" you can easily navigate with the tool(s)...

The GPT2 theory (GPT4 retrained GPT2) doesn't make sense at all, espescially when you even mentioned that GPT2-chatbot is out preforming GPT4. Also, while chain of thought (Q*) is good it does not suddenly make models be able to do things they weren't able to even approximate. GPT2 probably refers to a "major release" (as in it's a new approach or something, not the old GPT2 model) and that's why it's the second iteration instead of something like GPT5.
Meh… I don’t need every device to be just a screen. I like buttons and wheels and teenage engineering makes some of the coolest looking stuff. I say give it 3 wheels and 4 buttons. No labels just colors, and a crt screen.
Also downy bear is probably not hangin. Softer bears have longer fur because it’s cold. Cold bears ain’t really hangin like that

If you want the "temperature to change" on generative art, stop stealing art from artists. You CANNOT use works you DO NOT have the rights to. That is the CRUCIAL step you ALL OVERSHOT.
Edit: Coming back to mention this is also going to bite "ai artists" as well, in the end if not sooner, as well as all sites charging to generate what is essentially, to the law, non copyrightable, because it's not human made. I don't mean just visual art, which seems to be what you're focused on, but code, written works, music, all of these works being lifted without the creators' notices. You're all turning something that could be viewed in a far more positive way into a nightmare without any regard and profiting off the same people you've stolen from and are hurting - are you *really* surprised you've bred bad blood? "I'm going to steal everything of value in your house AND your job - wait, why are you mad at me?"

@@AIForHumansShow Not really sure what it matters who said what. My opinion is my own, although sure, it strangely somehow represents a large amount of creatives as well. You've been clear that you tried to ask about "well what do we do we've already stolen so much to make these large datasets already" - yeah. Stolen. That's the whole take. You start over with proper attribution and with artists instead of against them. That's the only answer of doing it correctly. There's no question to ask there if you are being genuine about getting things proper.
