What a lovely little bass with a lovely little color (I'm talking tone and paint-job)! Something about a short-scale 4 string always puts me in a good mood, lil compact fun things!
Oh babe. Mine is officially off to ship from the kind folks at sweetwater..so excited for this..this was my first bass in 1997. I was so happy to see it back..and in. Coral? So happy.
I just bought a Sonic Squire Bronco bass (red) used but barely played with a small amp for $200 Canadian, also comes with a jack and gig bag, so I think I got a pretty good deal.
Sounds great. This really seems like an incredible deal. The fact that it has a 4-saddle bridge and satin finish neck make it a serious contender regardless of your budget. I just wonder about how noisy that single-coil pickup is in a room with fluorescent lights, and also how consistent the fretwork is. (Still… for 200 bucks I could probably live with - or just fix - any issues it had.)
Many replace the pickup because it’s a six pole Strat pickup under the cover and the strings are not always under a pole piece. That’s why blade pickups are a common replacement, no worries about an inconsistent magnetic field.
20 or so years ago i bought for my daughter an Ibanez short scale bass. it had a fat little soap bar pick up and sounded great. I just wish I could find another.
@@gfgoalie28 nah, still a stratocaster single coil...no biggie though, lots of direct-fit upgrade options out there for a strat pickup...rail humbucker, early-50s p-bass, lace sensor, lipstick tube, etc...
@@jasondorsey7110 for sure. been wanting to get one for years, now that the stock bridge and tuners got an upgrade I think it’s time to pull the trigger!
These basses sound awesome with flat wounds. The Bullet Series and the Affinity Series had a different bridge and tuners. The bridge on this new series looks better. I wonder how the new tuners are.
They’re the stock Mini tuners also used in the Squier Mini P. A VERY good little tuner which is much better than what was on previous Broncos. Bridge appears to be same as well to the mini P and is again an upgrade in similar fashion. Neither are “premium” but don’t necessitate swapping as once was such for the Bronco and affinity Bronco.
I am a tall man, but I always struggled with longscale because of my dyspraxic. For me, a Squier CV '60s Mustang Bass transformed the playing experience. I'm thinking of selling my P-Bass and getting a Bronco as a backup, though I might have the pickup replaced with a true four pole.
The Sonic Series Bronco is serious upgrade to the old Affinity series Bronco. It really is the best sounding and playing short scale bass that money can buy if you just don't wanna spend a lot of cash! The Affinity's Agathis body sounded dull in comparison to the Poplar Sonic series body, and the lighter weight of the poplar body is also a big improvement over the old one. I liked the more vintage look of the older 2 saddle bridge more, but the four saddle bridge is indeed better to intonate. I was suprised to see that the ceramic pick up has a whopping 12K! output, but that gives this bass it's full on and gritty sound imho. I did change the stock pu to a vintage style Alnic Music Master bridge as I use my Bronco as in conjunction with my Squier Mustang bass. I have an old "Batz Maru" Affinity Bronco pick guard (from the Hello Kitty series) that I might slap on my Sonic series bass, although it will need some work to alter the controls...
I'm thinking of getting my first short scale bass for recording at home, and I need your advice! I've been checking out the Squier Sonic Bronco and the Squier Classic Vibe Mustang. I really liked the feel of the Bronco, but I'm not sure which one would be more versatile. Any thoughts? Thanks a lot!
I plan to get one in Arctic White. I love that it's said to be lightweight. Curious how much weight that is, but I guess I'll ask the music stored. (Am in U.S. sorry.) It's really for me to do some Acapella app recordings in my bedroom. I have an acoustic uke bass, and that hasn't worked out at all.
any set meant for short scale bass should work fine. i've even put regular d'addarios on my 30" EB-3 copy; i just had to trim more off the end. really it depends on the feel and sound you want. roundwounds (like in the demo) will have a bit of grip to them and will sound much brighter. flatwounds will be smooth to the touch and generally have a warmer, less treble-y sound. i switched to them because i'm into jazz and reggae lately and they're a lot of fun on a short scale like this. they also can last pretty much forever if you wipe them down when they get gross 🧹
At 7:53 did you go from green day to operation ivy? Same chord progression as "the crowd" though I'm sure matt freeman threw in a few flashier moments lol. Either way I dig it
Thanks for the review. However, I don't get why the pitch to sell those basses is always towards guitarists, kids and small hands. It is a short scale bass with a nice tone, great quality for the price, that even established bassists can use and enjoy.
They vary a lot, Indonesian and Chinese made, with or without skunk stripe, flat or butterfly tuning keys, nearly unfinished or proper satin neck finish etc. Check always in person.
You are the whole reason I bought a Squier 1970s tele. You did a review on it and you sold me on it. It's an awesome guitar. Zero regrets
Glad to hear it!

Dang! Really wish fender made more products in that tahitian coral finish. So pretty!
The accidentally more "orange" finish is also cool (from the front facing camera) :D

was it good or meh ?

There’s a whole cottage industry of boutique pickups made for the Bronco/Musicmaster. Although some actually love the cheap-ass guitar pickup vibe.
is there any good suggestion for a pickup replacement for squier classic vibe 50's precision (telecaster) bass single coil pickup? @@davidsmisc1351

Just rewatched Step Brothers and when you played the Sweet Child bass line all I could think of was "I'm Derek and I can sing high like this...."
Lol
😂😂
Bronco Is a sweet warm punchy little nice charming bass!!!! I love it!!! I went for a .32..... .85 set of strings...ohhh i like It so much!!!!!!!!
Best color is the coral- I love it...that or the white on white
Just ordered one!
What amp/pedals are you using? Has a nice sound.
Sold! about to order a lime green bronco. Awesome review, thanks!
Wow, fender actually listened and gave it a 4 saddle bridge
And most likely decent tuners! :D
@@johnsausage Decent or not, at least hipshot ultralites would be a direct replacement, unlike those previous ones with the 4 screw mounting pattern
I’m curious if they finally switched to a four pole pickup too??

Are you sure about that?
Thinking I might grab one in this colour! Got a PJ fender Mustang, but would like a back up. Seems to be a great deal

after setup i play it more than my usa stingray and Gibson dc shortscale bass
It is fantastic and super valuable bass. I like it because it is less but more. : )
There goes Mr awesome again
The Sonic series is the perfect opportunity for them to do another collab with Sanrio

You should go into the mustangs. I really want one lol but I want your opinion.
There’s a review coming soon, they’re awesome! 🔥
@@PMTVUK thanks, man. I really like your reviews. You encouraged me to buy my first real guitar, and its great.
Just go for it, those Squier Mustangs are great! I bought the FSR in yellow.
Bronco is not as related to a mustang as it is to the Musicmaster Bass for which it is practically identical (with previous 2 saddle bridge).
Those broncos are better built than my '76 musicmaster lol
If someone were to add a split pickup and metal control plate, it'd resemble a Mustang Bass more.
Hi! Which is the most apropriate set of strings to use with Bronco? Thanks😊
Depends on your musical taste and style you play.

Yeah I think people need to get over scale length and just know it’s the instrument and feeling comfortable that matters
i broke my left elbow years ago, and it doesnt go fully straight anymore, so 30" scale is perfect for me XD

Great review. I ordered the arctic white one. What strings are used in this video? Love that sound.
my brother wants to learn bass
i just bought the artic white
but i think im gonna let him use my musicman and im gonna keep this
Interested....but no left hander

Was Miss Murder intro in there?
Nice video
It looks so small in Dagan's hands.
😮😂
That's what she said.
that's cause it is small
So do i
Very good review. 👍
Nice
So coool
My first bass ever. In 1999
Was that bro hymn?
they really need to bring the Musicmaster name back for this one instead of calling it the Bronco.
I prefer Bronco. Like the Mustang, it's an American horse and a Ford car!
...and the pickguard design
NOISE.
Looks like he showed up to a HS band practice, stole the bass and started stunting
But he always plays bass like a guitarist lol
The Bronco bass is nearly identical to the old Fender MUSICMASTER bass. This guy didn't do his homework, and kept mentioning the Mustang bass.
