  • A superb gateway into the time-honored Fender® family, the Squier® Bronco™ Bass delivers legendary design and quintessential tone for today’s aspiring bassist. The Bronco Bass features several player-friendly refinements such as a thin and lightweight body, an easy-playing 30” short scale length and die-cast tuning machines for smooth, accurate tuning. Loaded with a Squier single-coil pickup for clear, articulate tone, this model is ready to help lay the foundation for any player at any stage.
The comfortable "C"-shaped neck profile of this instrument (the shape of the neck in cross section) is sculpted to impart a vintage-style playing feel. The most prevalent neck profile shape, it’s remarkably comfortable and is ideal for all playing styles.
The specially designed single-coil pickup on the Bronco Bass is full and rich-sounding.

I absolutely love those little basses, I've played numerous since working in a music store and they have no right so sound as good as they do.

My first bass was a Bronco that my friend gave me for free. Since then, I've repainted it, swapped in a Musicmaster pickguard, and a Seymour Duncan rail humbucker and two-band preamp. Now it shreds.

Had this exact bass ! And played many shows with it . Definatly a fun lightweight bass to play...I sold it upon purchase of an ernie ball substring years later I came across my bronco again it was loved so much by the new owner that he wouldn't sell it back to me . Terrible. 🎸

Had wrist issues playing a longer scale bass, bought one of these and was delighted with how easy it plays, how compact and light it is as well. The tuners/bridge are exactly what you'd expect, but everything works and it's an extremely fun instrument to play.

OMG, basslines in a bass review😱 hahaha. So nice to hear lines instead of noodling.
Just one comment, I recently tried one in a store, a red version, and was surprised how LIGHT it was. Here on YT there seems to be a large weight swing on these. Must be just different pieces of wood in the body.
Great playing and good review, thanks!

Haha, yeah, I agree there's too much "noodle soup" on bass channels instead of bass lines you might actually hear someone play.
Also agree that the wood must vary a lot because that Bronco weighs more than my Affinity p-bass, which I bought because it was light and a pleasure to handle.
Not sure whether the weight helps with sustain because my p-bass has awesome sustain since I changed the stock strings for high quality ones.

My Bronco is actually extraordinarily light. I put a handwound Vineham musicmaster pickup in it, Wilkinson bridge, Gotoh tuners, proper electronics (CTS pots, Sprague cap, Switchcraft jack), bone nut, full fret job, etc. It's as good as any other bass I own. I got the bass itself for cheap used, so I only have about $200 put into it, too!

Check out the Glarry short scale bass that's a pretty good copy of this Bronco. It sells for a fraction of a Squire Bronco.

I bought my Squier Bronco Bass back in 2019. After looking at the potentials, I had the bass modified piece by piece. The following year, 2020, I bought a new pickguard and a set of Korean-made hotrails. Because of the coronavirus outbreak, I had to abandon the project, but thankfully it was temporary as the pandemic eased out for a while. In the spring of 2021, I was able to get the pickguard and pickup replaced. The bass started to have more clarity and no more excessive humming noises. Later then, came along this year. I recently made it a fretless bass. I had a guitar tech at a local music store work on a fretless conversion project. It turned out beautiful as I had new set of strings loaded. It plays very nice. So I was able to play it in a couple of gigs, and I can hear the fretless tone out of it. I hope I get the chance to play it and share a video here on TH-cam since nobody has played a fretless-converted Bronco Bass as shared on the media. I only saw a photo or 2 with a de-fretted Bronco Bass on Google Images with respective links. Other than that, just be aware that the Bronco Bass price has recently went up to at least $200 estimate. I bought mine for about $150.

I am a somewhat seasoned bass player who has developed poorer motor skills. Short-scale base has been a solution. (And short-scale basses actually sound fantastic!?).
I already have a Danelectro longhorn which is great.
But a bass with "classic" Fender sound is needed.
I have very bad finances these days
I'm such a music snob and would never buy this bass even if it sounds ok!?! (Although I really would like to).
    I'm a fool!

The one I had, I did upgrade the pickup and wanted to upgrade the bridge too - but I have played much worse stock instruments for much more cash.
