  • The terrain follow feature available in the enterprise series of the Mavic 3 is a great way to adjust your mapping missions to the surrounding terrain, improving the quality of the output by ensuring a consistent field of view and ground sampling distance (GSD).

Nicely done. I kept overlooking the AGL selection!!

AGL is great. Just be sure that you have checked the area first for narrow wires and problems with downloaded terrain data being out of date or just wrong. The more remote the area, the more likely those are to be out of date in my experience.

@@aviosmedia Although I now seem to be a little stumped here. I think if I understand the process, if I only need to do the site once, then I just fly it using whatever Fly2 modes that work... Map area, Slope, Manually, etc. Check it with GSP or MTP. Then process the map and I'm done. Is this to make a more accurate DSM, DTM?
I totally get it that this process would be great I need to map a pipeline crossing at a river crossing at the bottom of a slope, I'd go through the process to fly a mission, create a DSM, load it into a mission and then fly/map the site again and again.
I tracked a construction site last year of a major infrastructure pipeline that rose 1,300 ft at times 30 degrees slope. This would have been perfect during construction and then 1-2x per year follow up.

@@DeanFord-Plus15 If you are only flying it once, and don't need to fly low to the ground, I would just run it at whatever altitude you want to be at and turn on the vision terrain follow (if it has a lot of terrain difference).
If you want to fly low then a DSM is ideal. And if the one from DJI looks out of date then you can fly higher, create a map, generate the DSM off that and then use that to fly lower. Hopefully that makes sense.

Fron DJI "The intelligent flight mode that allows your Mavic 3E/3T to consistently fly at the same height above the ground level utilizing only its onboard sensors is getting smarter with the new firmware. As a result, the minimum elevation ceiling in Real-Time Terrain Follow is being reduced from 80m to 30m, allowing your drone to fly much closer to the surface and capture higher-resolution data of the target area." since march 2023

Thank you. I've definitely used it lower than 80m but was going from their previous info. Thank you for the updated information.

Yeah the DJI Mapping 101 video on it he says 80 - 200M but the example he used shows 30 - 200M. I wondered if he misspoke or was a mistake in the example.
Do you have a link or place where it shows that info from DJI?

Yes. The release notes from June 2023 has this "Optimized Real-Time Follow. The minimum altitude is adjusted from 80 m to 30 m. The altitude for Real-Time Follow is updated to 30-200 m."
You can find those here: dl.djicdn.com/downloads/DJI_Mavic_3_Enterprise/20230626/DJI_Mavic_3E_3T_Release_Notes_EN.pdf

Please tell me how will M3E return to home when we choose optimal mode and fly at fix elevation over DSM .

I never leave it up to the drone. Either set the RTH above the highest point, or fly ir back manually.

Is it just the vision one you're having trouble with or can you use thr dsm import?
