Morrissey's voice has evolved and grown incredibly over the years, it has such a rich quality to it now. He's up there with all the greats.
Shame his politics have gone the other way.
Agreed!, I was just listening to early Smith albums the other day and I remember his trademark monotone, and how far his singing has come and changed. he was a great singer then, but his melodies now and his abilities are just amazing.
And all this whining about his politics and his supposed stances I find disappointing. Morrissey has never changed his views. he has always been a nationalist. He is old fashioned. He was around defining rejection of establishment before there was political correctness. The way the media just looks to crucify him in any way and how people jump on any chance to put him down without really investigating what is actually being talked about, just going along with claims of "racism" et cetera, it's so absolutely shallow and meaningless. I love Morrissey now for the way he stands up for people. In a world where it's gutlessness that wins....

My older brother was a huge Morrissey fan back in the early 80's, he also sang & played guitar & keyboard & at one point had his own band. I didn't get it back then, it wasn't my kinda music. Sadly my brother took his own life back in 2007 & I inherited his music collection. I get it now & I'm a huge fan of Morrissey - such a shame it took me so long to appreciate excellent music & lyrics & a truly one off musician & man.

Comparing Elvis & Moz regarding nutters. I don’t normally think of Elvis as being hounded and trashed by music journalists in his home country.
Elvis received criticism but also enjoyed wide popularity for decades. The majority of the world knew him and many people admired him.
Morrissey has a much smaller following and is much more prolific in the creation of his own songs.
Elvis has a unique voice, capable of great performances of songs created by other people.
Morrissey is so much more involved in the creation of his music, beginning with just an idea in his head & completing it with his friends. Elvis’ closest friends were more security, but not musical talent.
Moz & some of his close friends were deeply involved in his music.
As far as a comparison to Moz in terms of his reception by the broader world and by media, your comparison to Elvis is quite a stretch.
Elvis was widely acclaimed by the world by the end his career. The music press and other media still mock & dismiss Morrissey as irrelevant.
Not feeling your equating them in terms of the way the world has received them. But your comparison of them in terms of broad societal & music media acceptance seems like a bit of a stretch.
Let me guess, you think Elvis was an unrecognized musical genius.

Amazing! Loved this one! The vintage sound of the song with the trumpets reminded me to those tunes you could listen to on a Saturday afternoon or evening when watching a TV show in the early or mid 70s. It seems to me that this album will actually reach the level of greatness that Years of refusal (2010) had.
