An auto tune saw? Did I hear you right? I had a introduction today to a 2024 Chevrolet Equinox EV and I have to tell you, I was amazed at the enovation and technology in this vehicle, truly unbelievable!
Husqvarna introduced Autotune around 2012. The system uses a microprocessor to replace the hi, lo and idle adjustment screws. It compensates for environmental conditions so the saw always runs properly. Stihl has a similar system called mtronic.
I check my nuts bolts screws everything on all my saws pretty much after every cord of wood when i clean them. I didn't when i was young but now my stuff really means something to me lol! Those 346s really port and hotrod up nice they really perform!
Hi Scott between you and Steve donny boy and married with small engine and chickcanic I have learned a lot keep it coming please ok cheers Garry from Australia
@@TheGreasyShopRag Runs good. I ran one tank of fuel through it so far. In all honesty, I like it better than the other “orange/white” 600 brand I’ve used.
Greetings from Finland.. have had 346 15 years, excellent saw, i would buy a new one if still available, its still going strong . I came to your channel recommended by Stihl Erica😅
Hit it on the nail head for me Scott. I like to know the process and why things are acting up and how to properly fix the issue. Throwing parts at an issue may “fix” the issue but not for long or maybe it will. Understanding the process leads to a better long term fix in my humble opinion. I have worked in many fields, plastic injection molding was what led me to understanding the process and what affected the end part. Over thinker by nature, I am now a welder/fabricator and enjoy fixing things on my own, figuring things out and understanding them and the process. Great video Scott, great content and I can not wait to see what your next lesson is on. You have helped me a ton and I am eager to learn more. 👍🏻👍🏻
OMG! Double Schmutz Thanks for the video Scott! Always learning from your vids! P.S. After watching a quite of few of your videos, It makes me want to buy a chain saw. I have no use to own a chain saw, but I want one so I can just fire it up and hear it run and and say if it ever breaks down I could maybe fix because of you!
I wish you would have showed us the damage base gasket. And as for me i put a dab of silicone where the crankcase halves meet up. But thats just me. Thanks for the video.
I believe I have one ..on one of my top handle s..not sure 100 💯 buy I sprayed carb spray it didn't die but when I can get saw to tune it must be. When I turn the saw on its side it will want to die..or die quickly..builder Said he would fix it.think it's air leak ..first time I've had one
Just curious................. not that I would just crank down those loose screws (😗) but do you know how well that "field" repair would go long term? 🤣
@PelicanIslandLabs There's no way of knowing without looking at the gasket but because there was such a major change after tightening I'd say it would have been alright.
10 Fig Newtons are how many inch pounds? Almost 89. Speaking of Newton, by his theory the atmosphere has weight due to Earth gravity and that gravity forces air into the vacuum of our cylinders during intake strokes, But, according to another smart feller, Einstein, gravity can not force atmosphere into our motors because gravity (according to him) is NOT a force at all, but rather the effect of mass bending time or some such nonsense. My saw ran perfectly today, so why should I care??? Its all relative. lol
The answer is probably somewhere between those two theories. My goal was just to get some of these young techs to think more about whats going on and not which parts to throw at a problem. I'm a firm believer that if you understand theory you should be able to fix most brands and models of small engines.

A 346xp is one of the best saws ever produced on the 50cc platform. I have an OE 45cc model and absolutely love it. Great repair and video Scott !
It certainly is a popular saw. Thanks for watching!
Watching your videos is like watching Bob Ross' The Joy of Painting on Public Broadcasting Service TV. It's cathartic and addicting.
As far as addictions go, not such a bad one to have.
I thoroughly enjoyed your seminar professor Scott. Looking forward to the next one!
If you want to study for the next one then you better brush up on choke function. Not how it works, but why its needed.
I love working on small 3 series saws, great video.

That's one of he nicest 346's I've seen in a while. Nice work as always from a slightly less sophisticated two stroke mechanic. 😎
Lol!
Nice job, Scott 👍🏼
Glad you liked it!
Hi Scott. I bought the 570BTS blower yesterday. Nice talking to you and thanks for the Greasy Shop Rag sticker!
You're welcome! Hows the blower working out for you?

Another one of the videos I will relisten to. Great information and thanks for the knuckle dragging reference.
You should see the reaction I get when I call the other techs in the shop neanderthals 🙂
@@TheGreasyShopRag if the banter is proper pls add a little. It’s always fun to tease back and forth.

Husqvarna actually recommends doing that same thing in certain workshop manuals.
Between working on working on gas turbines (jets), diesels, and 4 strokes, I drag most of my appendages and also drool on myself 😉😉🤣🤣
Well, keep up the good work and thanks for watching!
Cool
Did the factory not apply Loctite 242 blue medium strength to those cylinder bolts?
They may have...20 years ago. Who knows what the saw has been through.
tthose knuckle dragging four stroke guys. Not like us classy sophisticated 2 stroke guys .
They're a bunch of neanderthals running around scratching, sniffing and grunting. I have no idea how they get anything done :-)

Your builder is assuming it has a crank seal leak. A pressure/vaccuum test can confirm that.
What kinda torque wrench is that, you run.?
SnapOn 1/4" drive.
