    Ron, watching this video brought back so many memories. I had bought a used Bally Captain Fantastic (that's another story) and the playfield was very badly worn. After searching for a while, I found another playfield that had been stripped down of all the hardware and wiring, but was in much better shape than the one currently on my machine. My friend Danny and I laid the two playfields side by side on a pair of sawhorses and began unsoldering all the lights, bumpers, etc from the old board and moved the wiring harness to the new board. Then we began moving all the features, bumpers, drop targets etc from the old to the new. We only planned to work on it for a few hours, but got into such a roll, the next thing we knew the sun was coming up. We finished up several hours later, and decided it was time to plug it in and test it out. We fully expected there to be lots of shorts or bad solder joints, but no. It fired right up on the very first try. There is no way that would ever happen again. I kept that machine for years and only parted with it because I got transferred to the west coast for work and couldn't bring it with me. One of these days I'll have another, but it won't be the same as the first one.

      I also like how you buck what is considered proper and do what is practical! I mean a little water based cleaner is not gonna hurt this thing.

      It's such a cool game, I've got an old beatup playfield in the back room I was looking at just yesterday.

    Wow! That play field is really looking nice! You did a great touch-up job on it. Had no idea the toys, models, and elements had to be removed, in order to do a proper touch, and wax on these play fields. Amazing! Thanks for the video.

    Really like your approach to bringing these worn pins back. Most of us don't mind a little experience showing in our home pins as long as it plays well. Thanks for the videos. Now I should go wax a playfield!

    I just did my 1969 Airport Pin using some of your tip and hints and man it looks good! In addition i used some black and blue sharpies to touch up some minor imperfections on the playfield and it looks awesome now! Thank you!

    The "Cycle Jump" ramp reminds me a bit of the tip-up ramps on some Zaccaria machines.

    Oh nice some one else that uses Meguires products!?
    I use Meguires #6 it is a cleaner and wax in one so do not have to do the wax part.
    I just use a clean rag and wipe up the residue.
    But on the Star Trek 25th Anniversary Pinball the playfield was similar to the Comet playfield here so I did spray Simple Green on the whole machine then used the Meguires #6 and man love that stuff it makes the playfield look like glass and playing games on it with the #6 on the playfield seems to make the balls zoom around much faster. xD
    And yeah I want to get the trilogy of these games. :)
    I want Comet, Cyclone and Hurricane as I enjoy all three of them even though I hate clowns. xD

    First rate work Ron. With regard to the clear coat you use .... is this also water based, and is it a gloss finish or semi-gloss? Does the clear coat ever make the water based touch up run or bleed? ... Mark

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We paint the touchups with water based so we can clean them up if we screw it up, then the spray paint is just regular spray paint, it's not water based it's enamel... It never runs if you only use water based paints on the touchup, but sometimes if you've used enamel paint or something like a sharpie it will definitely run.

      There's a gentleman named Freeplay20 on the pinside forums that makes new ramps for all kinds of games, he had it.

    Awesome videos, please keep them coming. Just one question, how do I open the head unit access panel? It’s in very good condition, and I have no interest in mucking it up. Thanks.

    From experience, how quickly will the wear spread in areas where the paint is think and damaged from planking.
    I haven't played comet, but I have a cyclone with a newly cleared playfield and it looks pretty nice!

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly if you wax it and clean it, it likely wont' spread much at all. What happened to these usually was the operator never cleaned them, or waxed them so the ball was rolling around on bare paint and it would start chipping at the inserts. Cyclone is a very fun game, we've had a couple in, same guys of course made it I'm sure you know.
