FOR MAC USERS start a 5:27 Steps after inserting hard drive include: Finder -> applications -> Utilities -> Disk utility -> Select external hard drive and continue video to follow 2 second formatting steps.

But after doing so the drive now gives me an unavailable error. Will unchecking the Quick Format make a difference or is there another way to format?

Hi Miss Lizzy, hitting erase will delete all the data on the drive. But you can later recover it using Recoverit Data Recovery software. If the amount of data is high then you might need to use pro version of the software which is paid.
this is super helpful, btu the icon isnt showing up in the windows menu and it dosnt pop up when i plug it in, even though its detected by device manager and the light is on

Hi there, thank you for your question! Start by booting into Safe Mode and using Disk Management to format the drive, or use Command Prompt with the Diskpart utility to clean and format the disk. If these methods fail, create a bootable USB with tools like Windows Installation USB to access the hard drive outside of Windows and format it there.
