    People kept telling eachother "this song will grow on you" to the point where some believe any garbage can be enjoyed after giving it time & multiple listens (and it actually works, brain starts to lower standards so it can enjoy shit).

      " (and it actually works, brain starts to lower standards so it can enjoy shit)." I disagree with this one. I hear a lot of people saying that, but if I truly don't like something, I'd like it even less on repeated listens, it becomes annoying and irritating. That's why the concept of "overplayed" songs exists, and that's why so many people passionately hate certain radio hits. And if something grows on you, you probably just find some elements that you didn't notice before, or you're relistening in the right mood, or maybe, at worst, you'll have more good memories attached to the song, which can elevate it (a non-musical reason, but still not about lowering your standarts). Anyway, sometimes something can be a very slow grower and you're not tricking yourself into liking it, it's just what it is. That being said, sometimes you just immediately know your opinion on the music, and you know for sure that it won't really change. No way in hell is this Drake album a grower, there's nothing to get there, and I'm pretty sure it's gonna be his least remembered record out of everything he's made so far.

    To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Honestly, Nevermind. The lyrics are extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the punchlines will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Drake's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these songs, to realise that they're not just lit- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Honestly, Nevermind truly ARE idiots. of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Drake's existencial catchphrase "Your pussy is callin' my name, So come on, baby, let's stop playing games" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Drake's genius unfolds itself on their headphones. What fools... how I pity them. 😂 And yes by the way, I DO have a Honestly, Nevermind tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- And even they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

The production/genre is the highlight of the album with only a handful of standout songs. The main issue (for me) were the vocals (or lack there of) and choice of repetitive melodies. Honestly, Nevermind is a dense, but fluid and elegant depection of a man in crisis, forced to introspect during a turbulent period of his life. Truthfully, most people won't be able to grasp the sheer complexity of this masterpiece, it's intricate lyricism ("Girl, your pussy is calling my name" might just be one of the most fascinating, mind-blowing lyrics ever written), it's production, which doesn't get repetitive and stale by the second half at all and the many flows Drake employs give it a sense of urgency and beauty rarely found elsewhere.
    Drake really is in top form for this outing. Rap fans are simply missing the point. Like when he says "You know how sticky it get", he is ofc ruminating on the utter disarray plaguing the global economy post-2020 and when he said "Pigeonhole ? I'm a night-owl, it's a different mode" is OBVIOUSLY a reference to climate change.. Like come on guys, This is Drake! He's the deepest, most authentic and most orginal artist of our age, Calling this album a scattershot, lethargic, hastily-put-together and repetitive piece of shit is just TOTALLY NOT TRUE. 🙂
    I love this album. I can't wait to shop for overpriced sweathshirts and jeans while this blares in the background. This album sounds exactly like how 2022 has been so far. Thanks, Aubrey. You never fail to entertain us.

    That's one of the things I don't get about Drake fans when this came out. They were calling the album "experimental" and acting as if that alone should give it enough merit, credible, and respect to not be shit on. However Drakes experimentation with house music is very lukewarm, bland, boring, risk-free, and basic. It is not exciting and overall pretty fucking flavorless. If this is considered good house music to somebody, chances are they do not listen to house music, or at least do listen to house music ENOUGH to know what is good and what is not. Which is pretty ironic because these are the same fans who were saying that if you do not like the album you don't listen to house music lol.

    "If you only listen to rap, then you won't like this album" is honestly one of the worst claims to make for this Drake LP because there are people out there who are versatile with their taste in music and they just don't like this album at all... Fantano being an example as he just doesn't listen to rap music, he listens to other types of genres. It's his job, sure, but I'm sure he loves it. I will say that the album is lowkey a vibe with the production but it's nothing mind blowing.

    • @micha3l7
      @micha3l7 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Facts. Only time I’ve heard that argument used in a valid way for some artist’s album who’s big in rap is how unfairly negative the response to 808s was, which was actually just people who didn’t like it because it wasn’t rap. Drake’s albums are not an example of that - he just makes average and sometimes bad music (recently) that sucks even when placed in its own genre outside of rap.

    His early work was a little too new wave for my taste. But when Certified Lover Boy came out in '21, I think he really came into his own, commercially and artistically. The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. He's been compared to Kanye West, but I think Drake has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor. In '22, Drake released this; Honestly, Nevermind, his most accomplished album. I think his undisputed masterpiece is "Calling My Name". A song so catchy, most people probably don't listen to the lyrics. But they should, because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity and the importance of trends, it's also a personal statement about the man himself.

    Great video Fantano I definitely didn’t rob a blind man back in 2006 for 7,000 dollars when he asked me to guide him around the street but great video 🤝

    Honestly Drake has been the king of back to back singles (no pun intended) his albums have been lackluster for the past 5 years but to be fair being a style chameleon keeps him relevant past his lowlights

    I was not feeling it when I first listened, but it grew on me. I'm certain they used some weird algorithm to get the album to ESPECIALLY stick in your head. I've grown to really like it.

    Yeah, let's pretend the album is just too cryptic for the regular folk to understand and that we'll all be bumping this album 6 months from now. Couldn't possibly be that the album is whack. Right lmfao

      I still don't like Yeezus

    • @Gino565
      @Gino565 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@man4437 I don’t see Kanye fans saying his albums are too highbrow for regular people to understand upon first listen. What you may be referring to are the actual large amounts of people who weren’t sure or disliked certain albums of his (808s, yeezus) and then ended up thinking they were pretty great, and/or the album became influential later on. These are things that have happened. Plus the difference is that those Kanye albums (and others) contain some genuinely innovative and risky stuff. The new drake album isn’t the same thing, it’s just a watered down take on a genre the majority of his fan base is likely unfamiliar with. There’s no risk taken. He did what he always does. Takes a genre and dilutes it for the masses. And he missed the mark here.

    Black Coffee being an Exec Producer is pretty interesting tho considering his roots in super underground house music. In i believe 2014, Drake played Black Coffee - Superman which was a huge underground hit and then on More Life he basically totally took the record and sang over it (Black Coffee original no longer on spotify lol). So i believe that to be of value. I describe the album as Drake ruining perfectly fine underground deep house which might be bangers in that scene.

    That story is a great metaphor for the difference in culture between the late 90s/2000s and the decades following.

    As a drake fan I 100% agree with you and this album was wack aside from a few tracks. Like if all u want is a few tracks to add to your playlist then fine but your setting the bar pretty low if you think this is like some of drakes best work or even good at all.

    This isn't even a demo tape level, this is an album full of stock music.
    This album just needs to get a Creative Commons License and only then will YT add it to their studio music library.
