I've wanted a Drake record with a bunch of features for a while now, but I kinda get why he hasn't done one until now..almost everyone outdoes him here. He sounds like he's hopping on THEIR sound, but hes one of the biggest artists in the world. Contrast this with Utopia. Say what you want about Scott, but that's a feature heavy album where the main artist isn't compromised. His own damn son outdoes him here lolll
Nope. Travis is washed, and 21 has been insanely overrated since the beginning. Drake isn't on his A-game, but the only person on this album doing better is J-Cole.
Man that three album run from Thank Me Later to Nothing Was The Same is some of the best shit I’ve ever heard. It sucks how far he’s fallen off the past few records but I guess it’s to be expected when you’ve been around for so long. Hope he drops a good album his next go around
Drake’s batting average since views has been hit or miss ngl, but the hits have been pretty damn good, I still bump More Life and CLB a lot and I feel like Her Loss was arguably a top 3 album of his it’s the closest thing you’ll get from his IYRTITL type of sound, but yea the prime of his career quality wise was definitely 2013-16.
I knew I liked melon for a reason because what he said about IDGAF, is exactly what I thought when I heard it, the intro blew me away, and then it drops into the main song, and I was like WTF is this B.S. Fortunately someone commented the full song where the sample came from, and it's 9 minutes of pure goodness
I feel like Drake has been very aware that he can get away with ripping his way through verses, so many instances where he "quotes" lines from other rap songs throughout his career.
I gave this a shot, considering I am not a Drake fan, I tried my best. And still, I do not see how this man is at the top of the music industry, releasing music that is as transparent as a clean window.
It's due to his colossal success in the 2010s. He solidified his credibility with albums like Take Care and Nothing Was The Same (which are considered classics by most Hip-hop fans), broke the industry in the latter half of the decade with commercial success through singles like Hotline Bling, Passionfruit, One Dance, God's Plan, Nice for What, among others. He slaughtered each one of these tracks and actually took his work seriously. His efficiency was nearly legendary by the time he dropped Scorpion, which despite being collectively seen as mediocre, didn't really stain the rest of his already successful career. Like Anthony said in the video, he was simply too big to fail, and because of this, 4-5 years later he's still pushing out even more substance-less and mediocre work just because he can and his career won't really suffer from it. I think Drake is more of a joke at this point, but because of his 2012-2019 run he's pretty much untouchable, so this has become his biggest downfall. By the way, I'm not a Drake fan by any means, but when you're as big as he is, it's hard to avoid him anywhere you go
I will say, Mia, which was another Bad Bunny colab with Drake, was an absolute banger. In that song, Drake is 95% of the way there in sounding like a Spanish speaker. I didn't even know it was him when I first heard it. This new colab was absolute dogshit and it made no sense how it was so bad after I had heard Mia all those years ago.
I get the feeling that Bad Bunny basically wrote all of the lyrics for MIA unlike this song. Don't really see Benito having a hand on Drake's lyrics at all on that dookie ass of a song
Great review overall. I actually like a few of the songs and features that you didn’t like. The track with Partynextdoor (my fave), Drake’s verse on Another late nite (love), and 21’s verse was actually decent. And wish the Bad Bunny track was longer. Agree with the 6, but love Drake’s music and creativity.
I'm no Drake fan - I'm convinced that he is the result of giving a Spotify algorithm sentience - but this review convinced me that this is an album that came out this year. Good work!
Away from Home is bad because he is bitter? You don't have to understand why he's bitter, he is and provides a good track off it. One of my faves actually haha, could be just me
I think this is the first time I agree with Fantano's review of Drake, the album is not bad, but it is not good either. The perfect definition of a 5/10.
Ignoring Calling For You the entire first half of the album for me was fucking fire. I didn’t even mind the 3 rage songs cause I LOVE CARTI and I thought they were solid. Screw The World was even a great interlude. The 2nd half of the album dragged down a lot if you don’but I still thought it was alright. We give it a 6 cause we ain’t scared of it.
A 6 is totally justifiable, anything lower than a 5 just tells me people don’t know how to rate albums or the music just isn’t for them. A lot of it is just people.. you know just following the hate train. I am not a drake stan btw 💀. i have personally steered away from listening to him over the past couple years. I listened to this recently released album because i thought i would give it a shot.
This is my favorite Drake record since More Life, but agreed, still like a 5/low 6 for me. So that's saying something. I hope his hiatus lasts a minute. He needs to make a real record. 12-15ish tracks, more focused and cohesive. Anything but more 20+ track albums that just throw shit at a wall that he's probably forget about after a year.
@@richrobin7070 More Life isn't my favorite Drake record by any means, but in my opinion, it has more memorable tracks than anything off the records that followed.
@@ceeb420 highly disagree, nwts was probably his best project. I would have said take care but the weekend gave that man like half the songs on that so I can’t really give him credit for it. Much like iyrtitl. Great record, but how much of it would be what it is without quintin?
Just a reminder for everyone. This is basically Fantano’s Drake Album Ranking: If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late - Strong 7 to a Light 8 Take Care - Strong 6 to a Light 7 Her Loss - Decent to Strong 6 What a Time To Be Alive - Light to Decent 6 For All The Dogs - Strong 5 to a Light 6 So Far Gone - Decent to Strong 5 More Life - Light to Decent 5 Nothing Was The Same - Light 5 Views - Decent to Strong 4 Scorpion - Light to Decent 4 Dark Lane Demo Tapes - Strong 3 Care Package - Decent to Strong 3 Certified Lover Boy - Light 3 Honestly, Nevermind - NOT GOOD

He sounds like he's hopping on THEIR sound, but hes one of the biggest artists in the world. Contrast this with Utopia. Say what you want about Scott, but that's a feature heavy album where the main artist isn't compromised.
His own damn son outdoes him here lolll
Utopia sucked ass
Drake and carti literally carried travis in his own songs what u talm bout
Nope. Travis is washed, and 21 has been insanely overrated since the beginning. Drake isn't on his A-game, but the only person on this album doing better is J-Cole.
@@focussport Travis is far from washed 😂🤣
Utopia is worlds ahead of FATD and it isn’t even debatable 💀

Man that three album run from Thank Me Later to Nothing Was The Same is some of the best shit I’ve ever heard. It sucks how far he’s fallen off the past few records but I guess it’s to be expected when you’ve been around for so long. Hope he drops a good album his next go around
Meh, thank me later was trash and aged terribly. NWTS and Take Care are fire though. Still love half of Views too.
Probably because you were a kid experiencing new things at the time. He’s always been average with a few good tracks that were written by others.
@Isaiah-FA3 Don't worry. Any once in a while people have bad taste and guilty pleasures. You will grow out of this phase

5/10, in honor of Drake's current gfs age vs his age limit.
What sample is it?
As a Yeat fan that intro nearly ruins the song. Its such a long intro that doesn't really fit with the song
What's the sample?
Please whats the sample please????

Im not even kidding if this album was 10 tracks it would be a classic
For the first time ever, I actually agree with all of the takes on an album review😊
I feel like Drake has been very aware that he can get away with ripping his way through verses, so many instances where he "quotes" lines from other rap songs throughout his career.
Cant stand that or him just stealing whatever flow is currently popular
5 is horribly generous.
I gave this a shot, considering I am not a Drake fan, I tried my best. And still, I do not see how this man is at the top of the music industry, releasing music that is as transparent as a clean window.
4 billion people have an iq under 100.
his versatility is his biggest strength and his biggest flaw
@@TonyBolo-oi2mnviews and NWTS and if you’re reading this lol
I don’t understand his mass appeal either . People like him I don’t understand him being a top artist.
By the way, I'm not a Drake fan by any means, but when you're as big as he is, it's hard to avoid him anywhere you go
10 years later still get chills from this
What are you talking about
I will say, Mia, which was another Bad Bunny colab with Drake, was an absolute banger. In that song, Drake is 95% of the way there in sounding like a Spanish speaker. I didn't even know it was him when I first heard it. This new colab was absolute dogshit and it made no sense how it was so bad after I had heard Mia all those years ago.
If mia dropped this summer it would’ve dominated
@@IA-qs9mi tbh its still a certified club banger
I thought the same shit, I saw Bad Bunny on the tracklist and got hype thinkin it was gonna be another Mia but this was a pack of ass
I get the feeling that Bad Bunny basically wrote all of the lyrics for MIA unlike this song. Don't really see Benito having a hand on Drake's lyrics at all on that dookie ass of a song
Wow, that performance actually is so much better.
Omg i love the Akira vinyl in the background!!
Drake barking on the mic for an hour and a half was quite interesting to hear
if this album was called To Pimp a Dog you wouldve given it a 10
I'm no Drake fan - I'm convinced that he is the result of giving a Spotify algorithm sentience - but this review convinced me that this is an album that came out this year. Good work!
same! I used to listen to JID and JPEGMAFIA but when Eminem got those authentic streams… I had to switch to the REAL MUSIC 😎 😎 🔥 🎵

Away from Home is bad because he is bitter? You don't have to understand why he's bitter, he is and provides a good track off it. One of my faves actually haha, could be just me

might have been funny but you did too much
I think this is the first time I agree with Fantano's review of Drake, the album is not bad, but it is not good either.
This is one of the albums of all time. Drake has done it again.
