MS-06 Zaku II (Thunderbolt Ver.)

- A mobile suit operated by the Principality of Zeon's Living Dead division in the Thunderbolt Sector. It is equipped with a specialized backpack with a propellant tank and two foldable sub-arms that can be moved back and forth within a 180 degree range along a rail. The suit also features additional thrusters, control verniers and its joints are protected by a cloth-like material.
One such unit was piloted by Daryl Lorenz, using a Big Gun to snipe down enemy units in the Thunderbolt Sector. Another such unit defended against the Federation's volunteer pilot squadron. The pilot managed to down a few units before being obliterated by a barrage.

That is so fucking awesome. Casually listening to the radio while sniping with a beam weapon emplacement, and then not saying a word as you change shifts at your average joe beam sniping job. That is so fucking rad.

Daryl were suspected as newtype by his subordinates after OYW. His feat of extra long range sniping, piloting Psycho Zaku and surviving OYW makes the grunts wonder if he's one of those newtypes.

Zeon is why i like gundam
I always like seeing the minor vehicles being used like the gattle. Even in just little scenes like that.
And that GM and ball fustercluck is EXACTLY why you don't put teens in these sort of machines.
I know, it was stupid for the feds to put children into the battlefield, just an excuse to exploit children just because they were running low on "man power" self-righteous federation bastards.
Zeon was doing the same thing, but the Federation gets demonized more for that particular horror probably because it's an easy way to make it clear that there isn't a clear good and evil when it comes to the factions.
Kinda what happens when you lose half the human popular in the first week of the war as both sides are stated to have used nukes and chemical weapons like they were on bargain sale. Although I have no idea if that's canon in the Thunderbolt timeline.

Also, that Zaku took a lot of beam shots prior to explode. Unusual resistance for a regular Zaku.
I think they were meant to be glancing blows, or lower power due to longer range. In Gundam it looks like particle beams fade after a certain distance.
Yeah this and IBO are the toughest ones I've watched when it comes to child soldiers. Though I guess even in the original we saw Amuro go through some stuff, and then Hathaway after him.
Probably because it wasnt shot by a Mary Sue Gundam.
Also in the video the GM's are using Beam Spray Guns, which have substantially less power than Beam Rifles.
@@Nightamose To add: it has lower power AND the particles are much spread out after it leaves the barrel (as opposed to a regular rifle where the particles are much more compact ... hence the 'thinner' beam that comes out), reducing its effective range by a LOT...

This is my most favourite UC film ever. It's really the best show that proving Gundam in UC series is perfect propaganda tool of the federation. The fear is real. The atmosphere of those first battle scenes are incredible. Unfortunately the sequel wasn't as good as this one.
The only thing i feel off, is that Sean was found still alive after Io blown his zaku, that's weird.
The spin off series Sean The Sandrat is really cool though, apparently their continuing it with very Xabungle (Another Tomino Mecha Themed Desert Anime) vibes and quite creative mobile suit designs.

Btw I knew Xabungle from its model kit, interesting mech design, pretty much down to earth & conventional technology. I hope they could remake the series.

I'm not a big fan of Thunderbolt, but from what I remember, these pilots were basically a bunch of 15 year old kids who were drafted, trained in a rush, and thrown to the wolves.
The reinforcements to Moore were kids. The Living Dead regiment had normal soldiers who’d lost limbs.

オリジナルと比較すると、その大型バックパックと全身に追加された姿勢制御バーニアが特徴
これはデブリの多い暗礁地域での運用を想定されたカスタムであり、サブアームを活かした複数の武装同時使用など、オリジナルと比べると操縦難度は高いが高性能化している。(一年戦争にサブアーム技術があるのかとかはサンダーボルトなので気にしてはならない)
劇中では大型ビーム砲、ビッグガンを活かした狙撃で連邦軍ムーア同胞団に多大な被害を加えていたが、機体数が足りないらしく、同一機体をパイロットを交代しながら運用していたりしていた。最終的には1機を残し全て破壊され、残存した最後の機体にキース曹長が搭乗しサンダーボルト宙域での最終決戦に参戦。奇襲を仕掛け学徒兵部隊に単騎で多大な損害を加えたが、最終的に物量に押され撃墜。しかしその生き様はリックドムに搭乗していたフィッシャー曹長を奮起させ、彼が単騎で学徒兵部隊を壊滅、果てはセイレーン機動艦隊へのSOSに繋がり、決して彼の勇気は無駄ではなかった。

One of the terrifying scenes in Thunderbolt is that you get to be in the Zaku's Perspective as you get murdered by the Full Armor Gundam.
That part was awesome. They really outdone themselves with this scene.
It even more terrifying, if you notice it, when the gundam grab and about to stab the zaku cockpit, his left arm (zaku's) were instinctively moving in panic as if trying to hold the gundam's arm, but.. the arm were actually already long gone. The scene pretty disturbing indeed.

Feds and zeon both did unspeakable things not only to the enemy but also their own. Zeon first hand brought their space colonies together and instead of breaking peace for all spacenoids. Killed their own spokesman sparking a war then the leader of it all wanted to make sure peace treaties were made after only to have one of the sons plunge it all into a full blown war rather than a short skirmish.
Having the federal Admiral also taking advantage of the situation used the rage of the federal citizens to seek HIS OWN revenge. And so the UC War began.
That first cut from suspenseful music to a sax lick as a GM gets blown to pieces is absolute comedy gold. Oh god, my sides.

well you can blame the Zabi's of their poor leadership, cause their actions is what cost Zeon to lose the war.
@@pauljordan0203 It's actually the second oldest, now oldest, Zabi of the four Zabi sibling that cause Zeon the war. Gihren Zabi murder his own dad because he was going to try and make peace with the Federation which would instantly guarantee that Zeon won't get hunted down like how they were after the war. Then Kycilia Zabi kill Gihren for killing their own dad which kind of started the whole chain of cluster fuck where Zeon got massacred when all the Zabi is dead with no chain of command they got overrun which lead to what's happening after the war where all Zeon remnant has to either fight for survival as Axis Zeon or go into hiding to preserve their strength so when the right time comes they can come out of hiding to fight.

they had the chance to win early in the war, when the feds were still building their first mobile suit gundam.

If I remember correctly, the Zeon guys are deeply disturbed when they learn who it was they were fighting.
One was piloted by Daryl, another by Sean, and two were piloted by unknown soldiers one of whom was shot by the new pilots and the other was taken down by Io
Fisher and Hoover, the latter got headshot.

I just found out one of pilots’ name is Keith Myers. He wears an eyepatch on his left eye. He got concentrate fired while thinking about his grandma’s apple tart.

It's why i installed a Fallout 4 mod that swaps out the Power Armour's flashlight for a monoeye that makes the BWAA noise wen activated.
Maybe because they are supposed to be silent for they are snipers, their MS are tuned to not produce as much noise as possible or they deleted the noise to make a tense silent ambience

No complaints, but the minor changes like the pipes for the original Zaku II and the Thunderbolt version of the Zaku looks like it has hoses instead of pipes. I find these changes fascinating.
What’s a good example? Like a different style from Halo 2 to Halo 3. Know what I’m saying?
Is Thunderbolt an OVA or it’s own series? I noticed that some of the mobile suits in comparison to Mobile Suit Gundam, 8th MS Team, and War in the Pocket are different, but you can tell what they are. Is it the studio’s own style or just variations of the Mobile suits?
Thunderbolt is new to me, I’ve been too familiar with the other Universal Century series with the exception of Stardust Memory (still need to see that)
Thunderbolt is its own thing, although there aren't many episodes of it, just two movies' worth. This one is set during the One Year War still.

They might be made out of paper but the zaku's rifle is pretty much the MS equivalent of going to war with an airsoft gun. In previous iterations it would take a whole salvo just to cripple a single enemy suit, those things suck ass how is it so overpowered here.

am I the only one wondering why a random car came floating into view? no? just me? alright.
Realize it's weird to reply two weeks late but: they're fighting in a "shoal zone" made up of the wreckage of at least one space colony and the suits/ships that'd fought near it earlier. The car makes sense in-the-fiction since they're basically fighting inside the ruins of a city or two in space, and it's useful from a dramatic perspective to low-key remind you of the many, many civilians who were in those cities.
