Never seen more than six or seven boats in Newtown creek before, a great little anchorage. It used to be a wonderful spot for waders and ducks sea bass and grey mullet.Newtown used to be the capital of the island, though you would never guess from the size of the village. Many years ago you could pick up a few basic provisions from the tiny subpost office and fresh milk from one of the farms further down the road provided you brought along your own milk pail.
My tip of the day with those cold boxes is that you can fit a few frozen tinnies or a bag of ice cubes (or any frozen item that you may consume during your trip) in it that will last days and save your batteries a lot of work. Looking forward to seeing your next videos Alex. Take it easy mate. 🦆
@@AlexGoesSailing Thanks for making the videos Alex! Yes, those peltier fridges are worse than useless. There's something poetic about the solar compensating for any discomfort it dished out to you by chilling your refreshments to just above freezing!
Ah Newtown Creek! My first ever overnight and with a bilge keel you'll never be stuck for somewhere to anchor 👍 another great vlog well edited and presented. Nice work 👏
Invest in a Lidl vacuum pack and cook freeze your Bolognese/curry. As well as using it as ice packs for a couple of days you just need water to simmer. Nice easy to watch videos 👍
Bought the alpicool, 20 version I think, the one you can stand a 2l bottle up in as higher lid, some years ago and it's been faultless. Doesn't seem to use hardly any power either while in fridge mode. For weekend trips don't even switch it on as find a few frozen blocks with the contents are good enough as it's well insulated.
Newtown looked lovely and definitely on my to do list. sailed past it on the way to Studland, another great anchorage that I would thoroughly recommend.
Resorting to click bait Alex…I don’t know. I was waiting to see which marina would kick you out. Love Newtown Creek when it is quieter. Key haven is great too, especially for your boat. Great to see your videos again. I just bought a new compressor cool box so interested to hear how yours performs. Andy UK
Kicked out of northney marina! Apparently the reason they limited passes was down to people fighting over the slip last year. The compressor fridge has worked really well so far. Will do a video on it at some point.
@@AlexGoesSailing I got an annual pass at Northney when the first lockdown ended as they restricted slipway to annual pass holders and berth holders. I’m sure I have had the pass for over a year but they have never asked me to renew it…yet. I have seen people approached at the slipway but I haven’t been and I am only ever about 5 mins on the ramp as I only drop a small tender. I can’t get over the marinas being so busy, not even easy to book in advance. Madness. Andy UK
Bloody great to be a 'carefree' young bloke with his own boat and tender. Better still that she's a trailer-sailer that can settle down on her haunches when the tide allows. Am pleased for you that you've got the very best of all worlds there mate. Can you tell me, do you have to insure her, and if so what type (TPF&T, FC etc) and how much? Thank you so much, Dave.
Thanks Dave! It’s definitely the way to do it. Insurance I have fc including race as I did the round the island race that you will see soon. It’s about £200 a year. Technically you don’t need insurance but many marinas and harbours require it so it’s worth it.
@@AlexGoesSailing Thank you Alex. For £200 it would save a lot of grief, especially if the crew of the boat next door in the marina says your boat did £5000 worth of damage to it..
Are you going to watch the controlled demolition of the Fawley power station chimney on the 31st October? It was has been a major navigational mark in the Solent.
Gawd your question is now a year old and you've probably found out by now - its called Roller Boom Furling. As you can see in the earlier part of the video, because the sail is wrapped around the boom one can't use a kicking strap or Vang when reefed/ rolled down. Ah just seen a 9:40 into the video the kicking strap has been fitted as the sail is fully unfurled. That'll be the blue line block and tackle under the boom to the foot of the mast. The purpose of this is to hold the boom flat and stop it lifting as the sail fills with wind which it has a tendency to do and this ruins the shape of the main sail making it less effective.
"we're a lil boat so we can go places the big boats can't, ha ha". Amen bud.
"safely". Love it

😍😍😍 Our favourite anchorage!!! You had the perfect weather for it.
It’s so good! I definitely got lucky with the weather!
Alex great video and you are very lucky that you can share time with Daniel. Love the new intro and look forward to more🙌🙌🙌
Thanks! Lots more to come!

The compressor fridge is a game changer! Uses hardly any power when paired with my solar! Thanks for watching!!!

Thank you very much Matt! Newtown is one of the best anchorages around!
Another awesome video 👌🏻

Yeah it’s really good! Definitely made a big difference on power!

I will stop there for lunch in the next episode! It was so good!!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.

@@AlexGoesSailing I have often resorted to a snub-nosed S&W revolver to help mediate in such disagreements.

Possibly if I’m around!
Great vlog! Always enjoy them....please can you tell me where did you get the solar panel brackets from?
Thanks! Made them myself at home. There is a video somewhere that shows it.
That drill prop is so cool. Where did you get the brackets for your solar panels? I have 2 of those panels and those brackets will be perfect.
Thanks! Me and my friend Sam 3D printed them!
I really like Poole Yacht club, have you been and any chance you would get a slip there?
I haven’t been actually. Great place to be sailing though!
Hi great video... Do you have details of your solar panels that clip to your handrails... thanks..
Thanks Andrew! The panel mounts are custom made and back in project episodes there is one that details how it was done!
Apologies if you’ve covered this in a previous video. What is the main furling system around the boom called?
Around the boom furling is what I call it. Probably something similar to that maybe 🤔

What boat is these catalina? Hunter? Compass? Endeavour? 🧐
