    • @rydmike
      @rydmike ปีที่แล้ว

      @@berrybigbYes it is, but external portable screens with panels matching these specs are easily a bit north of $300 each, so not that bad. Considering the good design and what seems to be good build quality, it is not unexpectedly high. Expensive, sure, but in the range I would expect for a product that does all this well. Most other similar solutions I have seen are garbage. This is the 1st one I have seen that I might buy and try. Still at this price, a bit more research first 😀

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They put a ton of effort and planning into the original and this improved design. The owner David did this out of love for the Mac and wanting something that will match up perfectly compared to what was on the market, and invested A LOT of his own money and time into creating this. It's a very very small team and I commend them for what they have created that beats out everyone else on the market making competing products.

      I know this video is old - but if I’m using both of my Thunderbolt ports to plug into these monitors - does this have some sort of pass through for charging. I know you mentioned this, but can pass through charging still be done if I’m using both of my ports. Hope that makes sense…..

    Seems game changer specially on the smaller 14” MacBook! I constantly use side car plugging my 11” M1 iPad Pro via a USB-C 3.2 cable. It’s really nice and helps a bit.
    Since the Duo accessory is pricey, I might considering getting one carefully 😬

    • @MaxTechOfficial

      It definitely is! And the connection is way better where sidecar can still have latency even with a cable.

      Yea! And the price tag is similar for a much-improved product. Now I can take a 14" without needing a 16" and in small spaces like an airplane a 14" is so much easier to use. With the 16" if the person in front of me reclines I have to fold the screen down so much its hard to see.

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have the specs on weight and I don't have a scale here (but that makes me think I should buy one) The price wasn't set in stone when we were working on this, but I knew it would be similar to the 16" version but with a lot of improvements. Many people bought the previous version and loved it, some who already had cheaper versions that sucked in many ways.
      As far as battery life, I haven't had it long enough to be able to test that before the Apple event, but the previous ones only drew 5W each which I was really surprised about, and this version is using similar tech but smaller display size. That would mean it would take roughly 25% of your battery which is not bad at all, but of course you also have a charging port. Even a cheap $20 small powerbank will offset this power usage.
      If you're looking for an external portable display setup that matches the Macs perfectly this is really the only option on the market.

    How much battery life do you use when using this setup? Do you have to run power with it

    • @daniel_960_
      @daniel_960_ ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You can estimate 10w per screen at full brightness. So additional 20w. Should half your battery life. 14 MacBook having 70wh battery.
      So for extended use you would wanna have a plug near you.

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It runs off of the USB-C connections that also sends the video signal. When I tested the 16" it was just 5W per display at full brightness, and this uses the same tech/brightness but in a smaller screen so it likely uses less. So maybe around 20% of your battery life will go to two additional displays. It also has a usb-c power input so even a $20 small power bank will offset the power usage but for most people you're just fine without it, or plug it into wall power to charge your macbook and run the screens.

    For working on lightroom or any other color intensive editing, are the monitors color calibrated exactly the same as the Macbook? Or only sort of close?

    • @MaxTechOfficial
      @MaxTechOfficial  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are calibrated but you also have adjustments if needed. If you're really serious about color work you should be calibrating your MacBook monitor as well with a hardware calibrator even if you don't have external displays, and adjusting the calibration once a month. I own about 10 Macbooks and even new out of the box there are some color differences, and as you're using them the colors do chance which is why pro's will re-calibrate on a regular basis. For less critical work like social media you don't have to do that, since everyone who is viewing your media will have different displays anyway.
